So, occasionally I've popped in here as a favour for my flatmate to get food or litter, and it makes me wish two things - that I had my own pets, and that I'd been here as a kid. It really is the kind of pet shop that children's dreams are made of, with everything you could possibly want. Every kind of toy, collar, tank or cage. It's all stacked up here in that organised chaos kind of way that small businesses do so well, and topped off with that authentic sawdusty petshop smell. Prices, although I've little to compare to , seem fairly reasonable.

We had a pretty good thing going for a while with this dog walking company. All of a sudden, they…read moretell us that our usual dog walker, who has been walking our chocolate labrador for nearly a year, can't take him anymore because he is 'too playful'. We now have to pay 50% extra for individual walks for him. They refused to wash or even dry him on muddy and rainy days so I've had to clean my floors and walls many times. Finally, when we'd had enough and requested our key back to give to our new walker, they held our key hostage until we paid off our final bill. As though they have had trouble getting us to pay our bills in the past... When we paid, they said they would leave our house key in a bag on the street outside their house to pick up. What?! Evidently they don't take their responsibilities as holders of your house key very seriously and feel fine about jeopardising the security of your home. I would not recommend.

Ok, I don't actually own a dog, and even if I did I'm not sure that I would dress it up, but regardless of these facts, this shop is awesome. The very camp guy that runs the store is awesome, and Yoda, the french bulldog that models all the latest fashions is worth the visit in himself, he's totally gorgeous! The outfits in this shop range from sportswear, to casual day, to smart evening, suitable for both girl and boy dogs, I've never seen such and array of doggy costumes. There is also a large selection of sparkling collars, accessories and bedding for your pampered pooch. I don't care if you don't have a dog, pop in here regardless, have a look around, and give Yoda a tummy tickle while you are there!

Good selection of mid to high quality food and products for your pet…read more I buy my cat's wet food from here frequantly (and order her dry diet with centaur services) the shop assistants tell me most times about feeding a dry diet too when i do so, which as a veterinary nurse i think is great to educate their customers about responsible diet due to a large number of obese and diabetic animals on an increase! (I never mention my job as i don't like to sound ungrateful or arrogant) However their choice of words could be better! As they can sometimes come across as belittling the way in which they speak to the client.

I bought a really nice collar for my doggy here yesterday - a black number with a small chain bit at the bottom. He seems pretty happy with it and it does get a few looks from other dogs when he's strutting through the park. Also, their dog beds are great, really comfy looking and strong and durable. They have plenty of things for cats too if you prefer felines so deifinately worth a visit!

My mum buys a lot of things here for her little beagle pooch, including the regular wardrobe updates of studded collars and gold plated dog tags. Personally I think that designer items for dogs (as well as for babies) are a waste of time and money, since they either get destroyed or grown out of, plus it's not like they appreciate the difference. Luckily this store is anything but pretencious with beds and crates starting at just £15, bones for 89p and vitamin tablets for those little heart and joints at £9.

Our beloved dog passed away recently, we found out he had lung cancer after an x-ray done at a different surgery and he died a day later. Before that we went to St Francis 5 times in 10 days paid £275 in total (which I don't care at all), ended up with unnecessary pancreatitis treatment for the first week then found out it's not it, when a blood test is done a week later. Then a generic steroid treatment started which was luckily also helpful with his condition. He wasn't be able to breathe or walk properly which I've mentioned every time. Finally an x-ray was scheduled which he didn't live to see. That would be 16th day of our first visit there after his initial symptoms. I'm not saying they've caused this or his condition may be cured. But we could at least spend more quality time with our dog and spoil him with treats on his final days if we knew what he had earlier with a simple x-ray.

What…read moreyou expect is friendly reception, short waiting time, helpful and trustworthy doctors and a solution for your pet's problem if there's any. What your dog/cat/hamster etc. expect is a cruel 5 minutes in the waiting room with other terrified animals, a stranger who touches them like no owner would touch them, an occasional treat from that stranger and then a really quick and easy way out. The St Francis clinic offers you and your pet just that. I've heard about this place long before I actually visited it with my scary looking but soft like butter English Bullterrier, Liza. At least three friends PLUS my landlord suggested it as the best vet in town. The location is very central and easy to acces/find. The reception is small but the warm welcome is never missing. In the waiting area you can find the usual petfood packages, pet toys hanging from the wall and information leaflets about treatments, insurance and other useful stuff if you're an owner. We had an appointment, so the waiting was really short, about 5 minutes. Making an appointment was really easy via the phone, no unnecessary questions about my uncle's history with turtle diseases. The doctor we met with was really relaxed which is always important for doggies like Liza, who basically shits themselves on the way to the vet because somehow with somekind of sixth sense they know we're going there even before the owner does. Anyways, the doctor was really helpful and explained a lot, which I think is the least they can do since the consultation fees are way too high (think about 30-35 pounds every visit just for talking with a vet, and it's not just St Francis, other places are even more expensive!). The only thing he might have to consider improving is the actual syrange movement. I mean if you stare the mighty bullterrier/aligator in the eye, show them the syrange and try and stab them in the neck.. well, don't be surprised if the mighty bullterrier will show her teeth with a loud growl and you'll be jumping up on a ceiling trying to avoid the forced amputation of your arm. But to stay serious, I think a subtle, shot is workable too, I had vets before giving shots to my dog that I didn't even notice, not to mention the dog. Fortunately the shot was eventually given and arms stayed intact with their owners, the second try was near perfect. I can't remember much after the consultation since my dog was pulling me rather hard, she just wanted a quick way out. But I do know that this clinic is hard to beat in honesty, the amount of information given, the knowledge of the docs or the friendly atmosphere of the place. So do go there if you have to because they are taking the time to explain everything and anything to you and your dog will get his/her occasional treat as well.
