Rather than the traditional Bavarian food, they were featuring Vienna cuisine and beer. There was also a three person band performing Austrian songs for the patrons and though they were a bit pushy with their CD sales, it added to the atmosphere. We sat in the immense beer garden which was populated with locals, their dogs, and their kids at the on-premises playground. It made for a very welcoming, authentic feeling. Service was very good and attentive. We sat for a few hours enjoying the sights and sounds and had a few rounds of beer and the moment we put an empty glass down, we were asked if we wanted more. The waitresses were all clad in traditional Bavarian drindles which was a bit cheesy but didn't feel forced. I don't recall the names of what we ordered and the special menu isn't on their site anymore, but everything was delicious. I got a steak that was covered in crunchy onions and came with some delicious fried potatoes on the side. My wife got the tafelspitz which was covered in fantastic gravy sauce. Weichandhof is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening soaking in the atmosphere, some good traditional food, and some delicious beer.

We all ended up ordering the Wiener Schnitzel, which is made from very thin veal, breaded and fried golden in a skillet with real butter. It was served with fried potatoes and preiselbeeren, which are similar (but tastier) than cranberries. Unfortunately, the restaurant changed its recipe for the fried potatoes. Instead of being sliced and fried with onions and caraway seeds, they were tiny round potatoes that were cooked and then tossed in a skillet to slightly brown. Served with a few larger pieces of onion and a lot of parsley, they were ok, but not great. I did not take off a star for this because it was still a delicious meal and some may prefer their potatoes cooked like this. I will be returning!

This also seems to be perfectly acceptable to the restaurant but it's not like the states (why would it be, it's Germany :) ) I liked the food there, they have quite a range of deserts as well. I found that the wait staff is a bit younger and at times seemed a little more interested in each other than the customers, but such is life. I would still recommend a little sit down with a cup of coffee and a snack of some sort.
