I should start by saying that we love the house, but will not be there after this year due to our experience with First Key homes. Maintenance workers have always done a great job fixing the ineptitudes of management. Other than that, this is a garbage company. Our house has flooded for almost 7 years now and they have refused to do anything even after installing an improperly designed French drain. Extremely disappointed so now we are requesting a rent discount. I have changed my initial review to say that we will pursue legal options if mediation does not work. Our house flooded Sunday evening / Monday morning at 1 am and Firstkey Homes still has not remediated our carpet or sent anyone out to clean. (It's now Tuesday evening 7:22 pm) We've been forced to have our carpet and tile cleaned by another company to avoid mold issues. Real Estate is based on a bilateral contract and relies on both parties fulfilling their respective obligations. We have fulfilled ours every single month and have never been late. Wish I could say the same for them. It is now Thursday at 6:57 PM and our local Firstkey still has not called us back. I guess flooded houses aren't a priority. I will update the record tomorrow. This property management is Horrible! I've barely been in property for 60 days. There were multiple things wrong on move in day including the stove that was partially broken that was reported on the inventory sheet and I was told no maintenance for 30 days and stove will be fine. Well stove caught caught fire. It took almost a month to fix. A few days later the sewage septic had a backup. The contractors came out and determined the line had been neglected during the property's vacancy. Now I am being charge $300 for a plumbers fee for a landlord neglect not making sure sewer line was cleared before move in. Now they are making up reasons that I flushed items down the toilet that caused this. This a horrible company. Please DO NOT rent from this company. read more

Charges were added without explanation, maintenance issues dragged on for months, and communication was effectively nonexistent. Would choose zero if allowed. Lived in a rental property for almost 1.5 years. Every interaction with FirstKey was terrible. After a few weeks we discovered the master tub was leaking through the floor into the laundry room below. Requested to fix and they came out multiple times stating that the jets on the tub were leaking and could not be replaced. They never fixed it. For over 1 year we lived in the house without being able to use the bathtub in the master. To top it off when we finally moved out, they tagged us with charges that were not accurate and deducted over $1300 off our deposit. We have been renting with them for 2 years and we would have moved out after one if we could have afforded it. My husband and I are both federal employees that were furloughed during the most recent shutdown and they wanted all sorts of documentation to defer our rent payments and the day after it ended we got letters saying the rent was due and we had 3 days to pay it. When we went to pay it we couldn't do it online or over the phone and no one will answer emails in a timely fashion. Hardly anyone there speaks enough English to actually help you. They are definitely not kind to service members at all. Stay away from them big time. They raise our rent $300 every year while barely fixing the things wrong with our house. This is the biggest scam out there and I pray they go out of business. Once this lease is up I'm never renting from them again. They will do everything to try and kick you out! read more

Spoke with the rental company about our move out date. They stated that we could move out up to 30 days prior to the end of the lease without penalty. We accepted the offer as they also stated we would owe no rent for the last month. Upon vacating the property, they sent us a statement that we owed the last month's rent in its entirety and that their local office made a mistake even though we have an email from them referencing the offer for prorated rent. They were able to rent the property to a new tenant, earn rent a monthly earlier than expected, and are attempting to keep my deposit to cover the rent they said I didn't owe as well as charge an additional $700 since they priced gouged us with a $700/month rent increase over 3 years. If they make you this offer when vacating a property, you'd better ask for the offer in writing. Better yet, rent from someone else or buy your own home. read more

Just moved in today. Did a walk through yesterday with a gentleman named David. He was professional and friendly. Little did we know after we addressed and submitted work orders the company was not honest with us at all. Assured us everything would get fixed in a very timely manner. We've been without hot water and have been told tomorrow they will be out to fix it. Our air conditioner is not working, our main toilet does not work. There is no screens on any of the exterior windows. Does not seem like much was done to the house after the last tenants moved out. Then we come home today to see our driveway in 10 inches of water, our garage flooded and basement filled with 5 inches of water. This has been nothing but a nightmare already and we just moved in. In the basement there was 2 additional rooms built. The frames were built in but all the dry wall was removed. Now we know why. My basement is a swimming pool There is a drain next to the washer and dryer but it is clogged and will not drain. Having to sort through all of our appliances, paper work, sentimental items that are now ruined. There is no way First Key Homes did not know about this severe flooding issue. I have never in my life had to deal with a more incompetent company, on our initial move-in they told us first key homes told us that we had to get water sewer and trash in our name now almost a month later they're saying that the water sewer and trash has to be in their name so now we've been going back and forth between first key homes in the city of Peculiar Missouri and first key homes inability to do something simple as get the water sewer and trash put in their name they can't even do that, and now because of first key homes abhorrent incompetence our water is being shut off today 00/23/2024 after we've paid bills to the city of Peculiar and the first key homes. They lied to us about the house being moving ready we sent them pictures and descriptions before we moved in of the condition of the house there was mouse feces on the counters on the window sills in the bathroom the house smelled like somebody had dead animals inside of it so before we moved in we had to have the carpets cleaned, First key homes already had our deposit and first month's rent that's why we had to move in otherwise we would have lost all of that, and of course first key homes will not compensate us for the carpet cleaning, NEVER rent from first key homes EVER, they're incompetent and they lie to you. read more

We moved into a dirty house, with over 30+ issues that needed tended to by maintenance. They will frequently try to deny maintenance issues and put it off on the resident when they are obvious responsibilities of the owner. Getting in contact with anyone is a disaster as well, as my contact has quit 2 or 3 times and I'm never given new contact info. Everything started off okay, they were quick to respond, etc. I rented a house from them eventually and lived there one year. I never dealt with the same manager the entire year I lived there. The house was absolutely filthy the day I moved in, the then current manager emailed me to ask if it had been cleaned the day before I moved in and I informed her it had not, her response.....that's disappointing to hear! Lived there a year, bathroom sliding shower door falls off at 3 in the morning and exploded into a trillion pieces, next day I made a maintenance request for it, they bring me a shower rod that goes across, didn't bother removing the other door that negates the ability to use the shower rod. Made another request to have the second door removed, finally a week later that was done. The garage flooded due to the house sitting in a bowl so they hired 2 guys that had to go to home Depot to rent the tools to cut into the concrete and put a drain across the driveway, that didn't even work, still pools water. They charged me $730 for the shower door when I moved out, they charged me for a broken refrigerator drawer that I had pics of being broken from the day I moved in, they charged me for a yard issue yet never disclosed what that was, I had the yard professionally mowed the day after I moved out as that was the day it was on while I lived there. I cleaned the carpets and left them vacuumed which I have pics of.....was charged $200 for not having it professionally done. Guarantee they won't do it before the next tenant moves in either, wasn't for me. I have pictures of everything as it was from the day I moved in and the day I moved out. I've rented from a couple of places and I've always gotten my deposits back....always, why you would take a good renter in today's world and take advantage of them and jade them is beyond me. The company's service was extremely disappointing. Despite being promised a move-in date of April 4, 2024, my parents were informed last minute that the property failed inspection and the move-in date was pushed to April 16. Subsequently, on April 15, we were informed once again that the property failed inspection and all communication ceased. We are now left without a rental property and out of over $3,000. The company has refused to grant our refund request. It is important to be cautious of this company due to their poor customer service and lack of communication. Worst rental company around. They took my entire deposit after I actually improved the property I was renting. They certainly did nothing to make it better. They charged me extra rent and ignored my notice of non-renewal. I even mailed it to them in addition to email. They found the craziest things to charge me for, like "weed removal" from the yard. It is worth mentioning that I personally mowed and fertilized the yard, there were no weeds. But even if there were, a $200 charge is just unreasonable. Might I also mention the driveway flooded everytime it rained and they ignored my requests to have it fixed? I had to deal with a pond in my driveway the whole time I lived there. She then started to say how it wasn't their fault that this happened. This company failed to secure their property for me and my spouse to move in. All it takes is setting up a ring doorbell. They offered to move us into a similarity priced home, requiring us to pay the difference of the two homes. Their other homes are lesser quality and are more expensive. DO NOT RENT from First key homes! We have had an issue with our kitchen sink backing up every time we do dishes since we moved in. Maintenance took forever to come out the first time, couldn't fix it of course and sent for a plumber. The plumber replaced a part in the pipe and called it a day. A few days later the same issue came back only worse. We have tried every home remedy possible before calling maintenance again and nothing has worked. This has obviously been an ongoing problem because there is water damage under the sink and whatever is going in should have been fixed before renting to another person. I have called the "emergency" maintenance line every single day as the water in the sink will not drain at all and it's causing our entire house to smell like sewer. The garage disposal also does not work and now the pipe under the sink is leaking and no one will come out to fix it!! The charge an astronomical amount in rent and we can't even use our kitchen sink! Steer clear of this place, I'm looking to get an attorney to help get us out of this shit hole and I definitely won't be paying an fees to get us out of the lease as we are not being provided adequate living accommodations. read more

Move out date, and date we had to have all of our stuff out was 4/2. We have 99% of things out by 3/31, but my wifes motorcycle died so we had to come back the next day to jumpstart it. Come in on 4/1 and her bike was STOLEN and the last little bits we had to take were thrown EVERYWHERE. Also, when we moved in, they said that the only thing that's not covered by them is the fireplace. Fine. We call a guy to come check it $195 later, he tells us that the only way to use the fireplace is to FULLY REBUILD IT.
