I had the unexpected pleasure of finding myself in Charleston for the first time recently, and my stomach wanted one thing: pancakes. First Watch popped up on Yelp immediately, but I'm always one to ask for a local's opinion, and sure enough my Lyft driver pointed me in the same direction. I was pushing my luck with their hours. I think I got there only 40 minutes before closing, but luckily their service is super fast and friendly and it wasn't at all an issue. I got the trifecta with eggs over easy, chicken sausage and a big ol' pancake. The portions are sizable, but somehow I still managing to join the clean plate club, which for me is a rarity. Let me tell you, I've been dreaming of that freakin pancake since I ate there. The texture was perfect. It was fluffy but not thick, spongy enough to take in syrup but not fall apart, and just had a great flavor. I'd love to steal the recipe. Sausage was good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The inside isn't as typical 'diner' like as I would prefer, but it's clean and not crowded, which is nice. Servers were all super friendly, and I felt really welcome. Thanks for the great meal! I come to first watch every time my basketball team is in the state tournament and it never disappoints! There is usually always some sort of wait, but that's how you know this place is sooo good! I start off with the unlimited hot coffee, today I tried the breakfast tacos with a side of fresh fruit and it was AMAZING! The tortilla was thin and light and the tacos were stuffed with eggs, fresh salsa, chorizo and Cajun chicken! The food was really good and the restaurant is always nice and clean. However, our waiter was an older gentleman. We ordered then received our food and I asked about placing a to-go order because he never checked on us prior to this. He then responded with an attitude "well that's going to be a long time". The food was great but the biggest standout is the service. All workers are so kind and friendly. Located right down town, First Watch is fresh, healthy and I can't wait to go back! Yes, there was a wait Saturday at 10:15 am, we were told 20 mins and waited 30. But hey it moved quickly and that just means this is the spot to eat at. I didn't see a parking lot, but we were able to get street parking easily. I got the elevated breakfast sandwich and ate it all! :) I like the light mayo on it and it was just good. It's on a brioche bun, so think big. It came with seasoned potatoes and they were great. Also ordered was the farmhouse skillet hash and SoCal burrito, both ladies loved their food. Our server was awesome too! Large portions and healthy food, will always have my heart. We went for Sunday brunch before soccer game. It was very crowded. If you don't like to wait make a reservation or go during a less crowded time. The food was awesome. The menu has great options and the prices are reasonable. We got the tri-athlete, ricotta lemon pancakes, and chimi chicken canga or something like that. All three were good. The chimi chicken was so delicious but not very big. The pancakes were a good size and very fluffy. Although a chain restaurant, the offerings at First Watch are of high quality and different from the other breakfast chains, but at similar cost. My wife, grandson, and I had breakfast here, and the service was great. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Seemed like a ton of the patrons were county or state politicians. There was a lot of glad handing. We were very pleased with our breakfast and the freshness of our food. We will definitely return on our next visit to Charleston. read more

The Tri-Athlete is consider one of their healthier options, egg whites, full of vegetables and served with pico de gallo. The fruit is fresh and succulent. This place was busy on Sunday morning for brunch. Try to get there before the church gets out. Service was fast and the waitress was very friendly. She was attentive even though it was busy, and our food came out pretty quick. They have a lot of options for breakfast and for lunch. Bunch of healthy options if you are into that. I've got omelette, and one thing that I didn't like was the onions. They were cooked for too long so it was slimy and it had weird sauce on them. I was not a fan but overall it was pretty great. This was exactly what I needed after multiple days in fast-food country (an hour south). On my way back to Massachusetts, I stopped in Charleston to try out First Watch. It was a much-needed culinary oasis! The cinnamon chip pancakes added a sweet kick to my morning, while the eggs and potatoes gave me just the right amount of savory to feel like I was doing my body good! Another delicious meal had at First Watch! I first tried this place in Pittsburgh about a year ago and loved my experience. They have such a wide array of breakfast and brunch items that you really can't go wrong. This time I tried their smoked salmon frittata, baked with large sun dried tomato chunks, and a creamy chive drizzle on top. I also went with a side of blue berry pancakes which were large, fluffy, and amazing with their fruit topping. I ordered pork carnitas omelet which comes with toast and black beans and a single carrot cake pecan pancake because I wanted a pancake. That may have been a mistake bc the pancake was as big as the plate but it was delicious with a little savory and perfect sweetness. Fluffy and moist. The omelet was a great blend of flavors using fresh pico and avocado. Service was attentive and excellent with food delivery quick and hot. Coffee was pretty great too. What really sold me on this place was when a homeless gentleman walked in and tried to purchase coffee with some change and they gave it to him for free and he left the premises.
