DISCLAIMER: I seldom write reviews, and my wife & I have been going here for about 7 months…read more I've been in and around church my whole life...very rarely does one get to experience something as authentic as what Jeremy & Tasha are building, in any organization let alone church. They "get" community very well. They desire to put others' needs ahead of their own, wherever they come from and whatever their story. In my short time of knowing them, I've seen them multiple times do things for others you just don't see every day. And if Pioneer isn't for you, they'll help you find another Memphis community to get in touch with. I have NEVER heard of a pastor doing that, at least not proactively. Services have a charm that more "established" places just can't match. It feels like the church model that I read about in Acts. No frills, no giant production (although the worship team does a great job), and no gimmicks. Everyone has a role, everyone is involved. And there's diversity in age/ethnicity/life stage/etc. A body in its truest form. If you've been jaded from bible-belt church mentality, give Pioneer a try. This world needs more men and women like Jeremy and Tasha, and the city is better for it.

As a YELP Elite member, I realize the importance of honest, candid, informative and unbiased…read morefeedback in each evaluation. "Where" we choose to worship, I believe, involves even deeper scrutiny. This is why its been almost a year of consistent attendance and/or interaction here before I chose to write about ICC - aka- Island Community Church. When I first moved to Memphis almost a year ago...i knew noone...and had no church connections locally. I visited numerous churches, large and small trying to find the best fit for my church "family". From my first visit here at ICC, I was greeted multiple times in that visit, and made to feel genuinely welcomed ...at the end of the service a group prayed for me. and my adjustment from LA to Mem..I cried. BUT, I wasnt convinced yet that "this' was the place for me. So I kept wandering...sound familiar? So on the weeks i went back...i always felt "special", a few people I had met previously always took a moment to say hi...the Pastor knew my name, and often a member or Pastor Barrett, gave me a hug...Only by the grace of God would they know how much I needed that. Their message is Bible based, the uncompromised Word of God, Pastor Barrett has an energetic, passionate, powerful and fresh preaching style. The music is upbeat and contemporary...and everyone can participate. The congregation is overall a younger demographic with a true heart for God, service and mission evangelism. Although each week you will see and meet ALL ages! When I unexpectedly was hospitalized...Pastor's Barrett and Rob, were the first people at my bedside in the middle of the night with chicken soup and a phone charger...two necessities when you find yourself in an healthcare emergency! During my lengthy recovery, kind souls from ICC, whom I didnt know, showed up at my door with freshly baked breads, soups, lasagna, drinking water, desserts (just to name a few).. I ramble on because the " point is " ... ICC is now "home" to me. WHY??? Because they are not just a room of pretty faces, great music, a powerful message and awesome coffee and morning donuts, etc...ICC WALKS THEIR TALK! ..and thats both refreshing and rare. They are living examples daily of WWJD...(What Would Jesus Do) Check us/them out...they/we wont disappoint

Drawn by the marker in front that describes the history of this church and the progress of Roman…read moreCatholics in Tennessee. The church was all secure on a Saturday afternoon so I was unable to do inside today. The marker reads, "St. Peter's was founded in 1840, the first Roman Catholic parish in West Tennessee and given to the Dominican Order in 1846. The present church was built 1852~1855 around a smaller church which was then dismantled and carried out the doors. Within 30 years St. Peter's had initiated the founding of three downtown parishes, St. Agnes Academy, St. Peter Orphanage and Christian Brothers Univ. During three Yellow Fever plagues of the 1870's, 8 priests & 11 sisters of the parish died while succoring the spiritual & temporal needs of the city. Early pastors T.L Grace, and J.S. Alemany later became archbishops. A revived St. Peter's was totally restored and added its Fr. Leo Arnoult Parish Center, 1985~91." It is a beautiful building and well worth a visit for anyone who appreciates classic architecture. There is metered parking nearby and the church has a lot they offer for free during services.
