My 1-star rating doesn't pertain to any specific branch, necessarily, but moreso their internal practices and collections procedures.
I had two accounts with them which were opened 10+ years ago, one checking and one savings. Over the past several years, I gradually stopped using those accounts and they went inactive. All the while, my savings account began accumulating dormancy fees, which resulted in a negative balance of (-$3.38) that I was completely unaware of. That being said, I still had a balance of $40+ in my checking account that was previously linked to the savings account. I'd assume they would have debited my checking account the ($3.38) to cover the negative balance... but that was not the case. Instead, they sent it to Collections and I didn't know about it until I happened to check my credit report and saw the derogatory remark.
For three dollars and thirty-eight cents!
I never received any phone calls or emails, both of which have not changed in over 20 years and were on file with the bank. To be fair, it's possible that letters may have been sent to old addresses, but I never received any mail from them either.
I called them and while the Customer Service representative was pleasant and helpful enough, all they had to do was reactivate my checking account, which automatically triggered a transfer of $3.38 to bring my savings account balance to $0. They were also supposed to work with the credit reporting agencies to remove the collections remark from my credit report, but that never happened. It's still showing now, several months later.
Overall, a pretty bad way to treat any customer. It must have cost them way more in time alone just to send this to Collections than the THREE DOLLARS AND THIRTY-EIGHT CENTS that I owed (can you tell I'm salty about that tiny amount causing this whole debacle?). read more
