A small, local bank. They have great service, friendly tellers, and don't charge outrageous fees. Keep it local!

Everwise Credit Union

Everwise Credit Union

I've been dealing with my father's passing for most of the past six months. This has involved a…read moremyriad of paperwork, appointments, financial reviews and more. It is in this context that I've dealt with Everwise Credit Union (formerly known as Teachers Credit Union), an Indiana/Michigan credit union that served as my father's financial institute. You always hope that your financial institution will have your back. It's a business, of course, but you hope that whether your account is big or small that it'll feel like a place you can trust. As I've been working through my father's finances, it's become apparent that Everwise treated him well. They've treated me well throughout the process, however, I'm most impressed how the manager here, Megan, seems to have had her eyes out for my elderly father and took care of him in some very obvious and protective ways. You can't always depend on that. Yet, it was perfectly clear that's what occurred here. It's throughout the documentation and e-mails and paperwork and follow-up even after my father's death. This Everwise, in Greencastle, was my father's go-to option. Located in the same city as DePauw University, this Everwise is your usual credit union with investment services, banking, mortgage services, night deposit, and the usual Everwise co-op shared branch options. They also offer virtual options. I never had a reason to use the ATM as I was primarily resolving my father's business. Mostly, I'm just really touched here by how Megan seemed to have a watchful eye over my 81-year-old father. In a world that so easily exploits people, everything I've seen indicates Megan was trustworthy, professional, compassionate, and helped him stretch his finances in wise ways. In short, I'm very impressed and grateful.

Most of them are around years of age or less. 2) The ATM is broken (out of cash) 90% of the time! Then it costs me money to get my OWN money out of a different bank! The ATM is situated in the middle of a parking lot that routinely causes a traffic issue. Has been reported repeatedly. 3) When you call the branch, they never return your call until after 4:00! Even if you call at 8:00 a.m. Then you call the 800 number... and stay on hold for over 10 minutes... It's ridiculous. 4) New Software is worse than the system they had previously. Multiple glitches. I have over 50 notes that need improvements on the software.
