My mother spent 7 days here after receiving a poor diagnosis from the Flower Hospital palliative…read morecare doctor. The nurse liaison was also way off base. They insisted our mother would be best served in this facility. LESS than 12 hours later we were told by the nurses and social worker that our mother didn't belong here and we needed to find someone else immediately. This was less than 24 hours after receiving a terminal diagnosis. The care was horrible. They made her defecate in her Depends because "it was too difficult" to move her. They confined her to her bed and refused to let her even sit in a chair for the same reason. My mother weighs 150 pounds. We were told my mother bit someone and was constantly agitated. This is after 24 hours of asking them to provide the proper medications for her because "they couldn't get hold of them". The clinical director later said she absolutely did not bite anyone. They ruined her chances of getting into a hospice nursing home because of the biting report and keeping her on Haldol to keep her sleepy and compliant. They they told us the doctor was taking her off of inpatient hospice and we would need her to begin paying $270 a day to keep her there. The nurses were rude and brusque. They literally laughed in my mother's face when she asked for something that didn't make sense because of her dementia. This was one of the worst experiences of our lives. My three sisters and I couldn't wait to get my mother out of this facility. It made us sick to watch how she was cared for. The building may look nice but it's rotten to its core.

From our first visit, we were so impressed on how compassionate and diligent the employees are. The employees work very hard to create a high level of comfort to the patients during their stay. When the time came that she was unable to eat or drink by herself, stand or walk without help and needed 24/7 care, Hospice of Northwest Ohio reneged on those promises. Their social worker told me it would be up to me to pay for a nursing home or hire people to come into our home to care for her. They did however provide a HOSPITAL Bed to aid me as her 24/7 Health Care Provider. They obviously have taken on too many patients and are not able to provide the promised services that they are being paid to provide. I am filling a complaint with the Ohio Department of Health as well as Medicare. I will also be calling one of the 1-800- We don't get paid until you get paid law firms.

On the 3rd day, there was a flurry of activity (including delivery of most of his supplies), reactive care and only after family intervention. Even after their neglect was brought to their attention, they were more concerned with family satisfaction than the clear lapses in their services. He died on day 5, after no pain meds for 2 days and a serious safety incident. My dad deserved better.
