I wanted a church that focused on the Word of God. I'm not a huge fan of church services that are part-musical and part-1980s light show. I want a message. I want something that I can build my life on, and I found that very thing at First Baptist.
I spent a few years in college searching for a church that suited my needs, but I wound up falling short. All I heard were fifteen-minute devotionals and a whole lot of electric-guitar playing. I can't build my life on music.
Then, I went back to my childhood church, which was under new leadership. It was a small congregation - much smaller than when I attended. I wasn't sure what I was walking into, but I thank God everyday that I walked into it, nonetheless. God gave me a pastor who was willing to teach me about the Bible and the Bible's original context.
At First Baptist, I'm learning, and that's all I want. I want to read the Word of God, and I want to study it. The more I learn about the Bible, the more I learn about Jesus; the closer I feel to Jesus. I can't put into words the gratitude I feel towards this church, but I can tell you that it's worth a visit.
Now, I'm warning you it's different. We sing traditional hymns. We don't have one strobe light. We don't have a band. Our sanctuary is lined with beautiful stained-glass windows that bear the history of our town. No, our services are different because they're honest, and they're real. Our sermons aren't fifteen minutes. They're forty-five minutes, but I'll guarantee you this: when you sit and listen to a First-Baptist sermon, you'll walk away learning something new every single time. I promise. read more
