We purchased a fire from Fireplaces By Design in Warrington after making a visit to one of the company's competitors. The fire we wanted was a modern design with the electric fire fitted directly into the wall given a letterbox appearance and this would require a chimney breast been built. Their competitor informed us we would have to have a marble surround fitted as the plaster would crack and any wallpaper would peel off within months of the installation. This was of course an additional cost and to away the minimal design look we wanted. On speaking to Vanessa she informed us the fire was built to give that affect and she had, had no problems with any installations. She took the opportunity to call the fire company's representative to clarify there was no concerns been reports from other parties and confirmed this to us. Vanessa also clarified we were talking about the correct fire as she was selling the fire a few hundred pounds cheaper then her rival. Which I must say was good news as the fire was not a cheap model. We decided to have a survey done at an agreed £20, which if we proceeded with the purchase would be taken of the total cost and the engineer was booked. We received a call to confirm the appointment was still convenient and the engineer arrived. He took time to explained to my wife what would be required and if the order was placed how the work would be carried out, as it would take two days to complete. The good news from the engineer was that the price of £1000 from the rival company was now down to £380. We decided this was a good service and placed the order good to their word the fire arrived on time and we agreed the installation date. On the day I was present and saw the engineers putting in the false chimney and commented on the fact it was a metal frame. The engineer stated it can be wood to reduce the cost but the metal frame give a better life to the structure as wood frames can twist. The workers were very good ensuring the floors were covers and the whole area was cleaned before they left. On the second day another worker arrived and the cornice was replaced and the false chimney was plaster. At this point my wife was taken through the working of the fire and asked if she was happy with the installation, which she was delighted. It was at this point my wife paid the balance and the final bill was a £1000 cheaper than their rival so a very pleasant experience. read more

How. I wish I had read the previous review. Agreed to buy fire in Feb 2013 and paid 50% deposit. Other work including plastering was being done at my house. According to the firm there were delays in the manufacturer supplying my fire. They sat on £1600 of my money for two months. The fire was supposed to be eventually installed in April 2013. The installation was subcontracted out and the eventual installer required payment of. £990 in cash before he would put the fire in. I had been required to also pay the builder throughout in cash. Fitter turned up without prior arrangement and was put out that he couldnt get in. Came back almost a week later. The AFTERNOON (Sunday) that the fire was installed I had Numerous phone calls wanting final payment. As there was a £1000 of price that I wanted justified and some concerns as to whether it was the right fire I asked for an explanation by email. I didnt get this but did get the day after installation numerous calls demanding payment of the balance. When I refused to pay until I had the explanation I had requested they told the fitter to come and remove the fire the next day. I HAVE FOUND THIS BUSINESS TO BE TRUSTWORTHY AND HAVE NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING THEM HIGHLY. FIREPLACES BY DESIGN SELL TOP QUALITY FIREPLACES AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE LEVEL IS OF A HIGH STANDARD AND THEY HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, AND HAVE AN EXCELLENT REPUTATION. I find the negative reviews written above or below this to be false in that the shop mentioned has not been contacted by these people or are known to them, certainly by these names also. The shop would sort any problems, were there any to sort, but these Alleged events never have evidence like receipts shown to Qype or the shop concerned. Instead there are vague references, no dates and no person quoted who they alleged to have spoken with-all vague mentions the man who delivered this sort of thing or the phrase for example: Somebody at Consumer Services in Warringtonsort of statement, no names or details. It seems to be a case for maliciously attacking a rival business and if genuine ,they would have spoken directly to trading standards with a case number give, or to the business first. None of these events happened and are to be removed as these can prove to be libel in a court case, which could result. read more

If it was possible to leave negative stars I would rate this firm -5. My 83 year old widowed mother wanted a replacement electric fire. The salesman suggested a fire with a remote control stating he would fit it for free. A deposit was paid and then it was said that the remainder was payable after fitting. However, the firm contacted my mother and asked her to pay the remainder before fitting. They then fitted a fire effect fire, ie it was not a fire. When pointed out she had always wanted a fire they tried to fob her off with another cheaper unit for the same price. A salesman appeared at her home with a brochure with no costs. When asked to obtain costs from the office he refused. In view of their behaviour the order was cancelled and they tried to claim 25% of the price as an administration cost. They finally agreed to pay back the full amount but to date, 4 weeks later, they have not paid a single penny back. I would strongly urge anyone who is thinking of dealing with this firm to go elsewhere read more

VERY poor customer service. When they had your hard earned money, getting any kind of after service or rectification work done was like getting the first man on the Moon. And when it was completed the standard was POOR and done a man who is ignorant, rude, crude immature sense of humour who clearly was not interested in the job which they had messed up. Very poor communication if you could get any, even when they had messed the order up. Later found out they had put a 60% mark up on most stock, sub standard at that !! THIRD RATE SHOP, SERVICE and NO sense of satisfaction. Please do NOT give them your custom, they say 'Buyer Beware'. You have been WARNED. ZERO STARS for SHOP and especially SERVICE !!!!! read more

What great service, this place is like an aladins cave, full of wow, will be back for my wallpaper and curtains. The service from start to finish was outstanding, the staff knowledgable and genuine.
