Sad commentary on greed. Despite calling ahead, we were not "allowed" to eat there because a tour bus was in, and another expected. Obviously some contract with tour companies is more important than actual service. Either you are open, or you are not. No signs were placed out, the open sign said open, but only if you are in a tour bus. Reminds me of "insert ethnic group here, need not apply". I will not return. read more

We stopped in after our backpacking trip near Cold Water Lake. We just wanted a beer and snack. The service was amazing (Katherine S, per my receipt). When we asked for just some fries or snack type food she brought a basket of fries w/ a dill/garlic dipping sauce & a basket of chips with spicy dipping sauce. The cider and lager were delish too. Their out door COVID seating was perfect too. We found a bench under the trees where we could enjoy listening to the kiddos down at the river having a blast. The cheeseburger I had at this place made my eyes roll back in my head. Friendly service, great view by the river, and a menu with healthy options were all nice,BUT THE CHEESEBURGER! My friend and I chose a side salad instead of fries till our other friend's plate arrived with gorgeous beer battered fries and we immediately added a side. I was riding "down" from a visit to Mt. St. Helens. The temp was hot and headwind made it challenging to keep going (because the road wasn't all down). Then saw "Restaurant" flags! The servers (and assuming owners) were sooo nice to me. They don't have a drinking fountain, so they brought me Pepsi in a cup with lots of ice, the way I liked. I wanted to try their elk burger, but my body could only take a half sandwich. Kettle chips (that they make there) were crunchy and great! I'll definitely come back :-). read more

Pretty standard grill sort of restaurant, but it was well appreciated in the middle of nowhere on our return from Mount St. Helens. The woman who seated us wasn't particularly friendly, but our waitress made up for it by being very nice. Everyone in our party said their food was good - nothing too special. But I will say that their beer battered French fries were really great, especially when dipped into their homemade cheese fondue sauce. My mom says the Caesar dressing was the best she'd ever had. read more

Seriously one of the best burgers my husband and I have ever had! Combine that with their homemade cobbler and we were in heaven! Seems like they were closing down for the winter season, and combine that with a recent move to this location and they had several reasons to not deliver on a great meal. But they absolutely did!! The burger patty was perfectly seasoned, crispy bacon and a soft toasted bun! Mmmm delicious!!! And the views from patio were incredible! The dumplings are AMAZING. Oh my gosh. So good! The dish was so fancy, too. The dumplings were homemade with cheese in them, and the sauce was delicious. A must-stop on the way to (or from) the Mt St Helens area. First of all, if you can get a table outside - do it! There's some really pretty views from the patio. The fact that it's dog-friendly is a big plus too. They have a handful of local beers on tap and we were both impressed with the ones we got. As for the food, the coconut prawns were fried to golden perfection and came with a DELICIOUS raspberry chipotle sauce. Fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. Boyfriend liked the elk burger although he thought it could have used a bit more seasoning. My favorite part of the meal though was the dessert. The mountain berry cobbler was so so good, bursting with flavor from the fruit and a delicious spiced topping. Homemade and simply wonderful. This place is a solid five in my book. We will absolutely be back next time we are in the area, and highly recommend it to anyone passing through. read more

Their gift shop is probably the most reasonably priced I've ever seen and the staff there was also friendly. I am seeing a trend reading through the reviews. The large parties seem to have the best experience. While the smaller parties are simply ignored. I wanted to love this place. It looked cozy and welcoming. We walked in and our waitress sat us and told us she would be right with us. Great. We could see she was rather busy. We sat for 10 minutes, watching her frantically rush around. Seating a few more customers and working the cash register. Then a large party of at least 10 people came in. They were offered a seat quickly and the next thing I noticed... the waitress was taking their order! It states on their menu that parties of 8 or more the waitress will receive a 20% gratuity so there is guaranteed money to be made from the start. I look around, and there are 4 other tables that were seated shortly after us also just waiting.... The 2 waitresses ignored all of us. We sat and discussed where we should go to eat since it was obvious we were not going to be acknowledged. I watched those 4 other tables get up and walk out. We then followed. The waitress said nothing. She looked relieved. This restaurant has so much potential, I can't say anything about the food because we were never served (30 minutes we waited). The service is awful. Completely awful. If you are reading this review, trying to decide if you should stop. Don't. It's a waste of time and you will leave hungry and discouraged. read more

This restaurant was just what we were looking for after a long day of hiking up on Mt. St Helens. We were seated outside and our order was taken immediately by a very polite and friendly younger boy. We didn't catch his name, but were super impressed by his professionalism. My family and I (4people) went here after going to mount st. Helens view point. We read that they had the best burgers around so we figured why not. When we got there we went into the gift shop a looked around cause there was a party waiting to be seated. Once rhey we seated we went over to be seated. There was not to many people there witch was nice maybe 10 family's. But yet it still took the staff 5-7 min to notice us and get us seated. When we finally got seated buy the hostess we where told our server will be by shortly. We never got offer drinks by her while we waited. About 2-3 minutes later our server to come and she immediately asked if we where ready to order. We told her we still needed time to look at menu and we asked where the drink portion was on menu. She told us where and said I will give you a few minutes and walked away. She came back 5+ minutes later and took our order. I am one to let my kids pick what food they want to eat and also let them inform the server, but every time my son told her what he wanted she kept asked me "is that ok mom?", like my son did not know what he was talking about. Once our orders where taken food came out pretty quickly. The burgers where both flavorless, and my burger was more pink then i would have liked it and the frys where on the cold side. The kids did enjoy there food though. After we ate we sat and waited for 10+ minutes till we finally asked a random server if we could get our bill. In that time we could have just walked out cause they probably would not have even noticed. Probably will not be going here again. Witch is sad cause they have a great view of the mountain right off there deck. read more

The food is hit and miss. The fries were good but the fish in my girlfriends fish and chips were strangely mushy on the inside. Also, my chicken/bacon sandwich was pretty good except the chicken patty was fairly flavorless. My guess is that I should have ordered a straight hamburger. However, none of that matters really. The star of this place for me is the back porch which overlooks a very pretty valley with a river running a few hundred feet below. It's a lovely place to sit. read more

You've got to be joking me. You have a prime location on one of the most famous, most visited mountains in the world. You have a beautiful facility, with a jaw-dropping view of the Toutle valley, mud flow, and of course Mt St Helens herself. To top it off, you are like one of only 2 eating establishments on this side of the mountain, so you seriously have it made. Except you SUCK. SO. BAD. My family of 6 was here on a Tuesday afternoon. Service was VERY slow, and unenthused. We were seated on the deck, which is a lovely sunny spot to really take in the mountain. It was rather warm, and we were not offered water. When requested, it took a very long time to come. Orders were messed up - wrong food was brought out. Waitress blamed us for telling her the wrong thing. Our drinks were never refilled. The chicken was raw in the middle, as were the burgers. Things were not handled nicely and there was no apology. The uncooked chicken was removed from the bill. I wanted at first to sit and linger on the deck. Get a beer, some dessert, and really enjoy the surroundings. However, after this experience, I could not wait to get out of there. If you want to eat somewhere decent after your visit to MSH, hit the gas, not the brakes, when you pass Hoffstadt Bluffs/Fire Mountain Grill, and head down the mountain to the 19 Mile House, which serves the best cobbler in the state. Get yer shit together Fire Mountain. You are totally blowing it. read more

I saw Betsy's review from a year ago and I'm happy to report they did get their stuff together! We stopped here for lunch and had a great meal. Plenty of options (vegetarian too). I would give them a very strong 5 star rating. Food tasted great. I had the fire mountain burger--pretty spicy, but amazing flavor. My wife had the eggplant and loved it. Staff was really nice and attentive. View was amazing. I would highly recommend stopping on your way up! read more

Hadn't been here in years, so we decided after our ten mile hike that we would stop in for a greesy burger! We walked through the gift shop first, the gift shop attendant never greeted or said hello to us. We finally went over to the restaurant, read the menu, and waited to be seated. The wait staff were standing probably 10 ft from us talking to the helicopter pilot, and while we were in plain view waiting to be seated we were never seated. I got angry and walked away, but decided to give the ignorant staff another chance, waited a bit longer, but they still ignored us and went about NOT seating us. While the espresso prices are reasonable, they only offer one size, eight flavor options, and they can only be iced or hot. NOT impressed! I wont be back!! Go support the 19 Mile House, great service, and great food!!!! read more

My boyfriend LOVES the elk burgers here so we had to stop after visiting Mt. St. Helens Johnston Ridge Observatory. Food: He was very happy with the elk burger again and the beer battered fries were good but nothing spectacular. The menu is very fried/battered food heavy in my opinion. Appetizers are all fried options. Salads were pretty limited (garden, Cesar). Lots of burger variety. I had the BLT sandwich and it was pretty good, just your standard BLT on wheat. Nice crisp bacon and a side salad. Setting: booths or tables and outside seating option. We had a nice clean booth. The lodge is beautiful inside and there is a very nice view of the valley and river. Bathrooms smelled for some reason considering they were clean. Weird. Service: it was quiet when we were there because we went on July 4th at lunchtime (when many others are BBQing)! Quick seating, nice and friendly waitress, and food arrived quickly. All in all, a good place if you want a sit down, clean, friendly meal heavy on burgers and sandwiches. read more

Soaking wet, cold, tired and hungry after wandering the area in the rain doing a pile of Earthcaches, the four guys from Southern California were willing to accept anything. We knew the odds of hitting a homer when there's only one place for miles around were typically not that good, but like I said, we were starved and had many a mile to go. Wow. Fantastic food and great service at reasonable prices (especially so given the location). I forget what the other guys had, but my club sandwich was huge and nicely done. Good thick bacon, piles of turkey, fresh lettuce and tomato and, I'm here to tell ya, the absolute best fries I've ever had. So yeah, they may have missed the mark for Betsy a couple of years ago, but they've certainly taken note and turned things around. I'd definitely stop in again. read more

Stopped for early dinner after touring Mt St Helens. Had been there before when it was operating as Patty's Place @ 19 Mile House. Too bad the old web site doesn't indicate that the place is still operating but under a new/different name. It merely states "Closed Permanently," which is true for the former name. Good and plentiful food. Try the chicken and dumpling "soup," which under the former operation was "chicken and dumplings" and had huge dumplings on top of the creamy, thick chicken stew with vegetables. It's still plentiful and tasty, and will stick to your ribs. The burgers are also juicy and tasty. Try either the elk or bison burger. Both are good. read more

Friendly service, nice outside eating area that overlooks the Toutle River, pretty looking cottage style building. It's alright, but the prices are too high. I get that you're in a touristy area and this is the only restaurant for a good 15 or so miles so it probably costs more to import the ingredients, but $9 for a cobbler is a bit much for what you get: some fruit and crust in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream on top. It feels more like a $4.50 - $6 max type of dessert. You can get an entire apple pie at Fred Meyer for a dollar more and it has more flavor and will feed more people. I'm not sure why the flavor was lacking in the cobbler, it just didn't really stand out. Maybe it just needed more sugar or cinnamon or something? The hamburger was big, cost $13, which would be fine, but something was missing to it too. I think it was just too many ingredients competing for attention that they all got lost in the mix and nothing really stood out. I had the pulled pork burger that had pepperjack cheese and some kind of chipotle aioli sauce on it but I couldn't really even detect it. Altogether the sandwich was on the bland side. Maybe the meats and sauces just need more salt or something? It just didn't have that "bang" to it. It was served with what I believe are homemade potato chips which were okay, but for a big burger the best side would really be big thick steak fries, especially if you could dip them in that sauce. I hope maybe someday they can add those. Altogether it was $25 for a sandwich and dessert for just one person, but like I said, you're in an isolated country area and headed up to a tourist site at Mount St. Helens so I give it some leeway. I knew going in it would be on the pricey side, but I'd just hoped the food had more flavor to justify it. read more

Twice last summer (2017) I went into the restaurant and could not get service. The first time I was sitting out on the deck (it was not a busy day), and the second time I waited by the main door area (again, not a busy day). The first time the wait staff was not even around. I think they were visiting in the kitchen area and the other time two staff were at the espresso machine hunkered-down talking. They didn't even look my way. I did go a third time. The food as below average, and prices way above what I would expect. I order the chicken and dumplings. I only got a shallow bowl of a gravy with a few bits of canned chicken (at least that what it tasted like -very salty and grainy), and a few potatoes, with a stale biscuit; and cool, not hot. No salad included. It was a horrible meal. And the cobbler was nothing like what the original 19 Mile House served (different owners). Go for the view. Don't eat the food. read more

What a disappointment after a great visit to Mount St. Helens....this could be a wonderful restaurant if the staff didn't treat customers like they are an inconvenience . Don't go here for enjoyable dining, we left feeling dissatisfied with the food , wanted to try the cobbler but our waitress disappeared for such a long time that we gave up, so finally was able to get the bill, paid and left feeling it was a big mistake to go there! A buddy an I were riding back from My St Helens and wanted to eat. We stopped in and we're able to get seated outside and had an umbrella for shade. I had the western bacon cheeseburger and my buddy had a order of fish and chips. The food was made and served quickly and was really freaking good. The ladies there were top notch and did a fantastic job. Even though the food options were limited, they were good. My family came in on a Wednesday, July 3 and were seated out on the deck with an incredible view of Mt Saint Helens. I can't give 5 stars because they were understaffed and it took a while to get our order in. There were only 2 servers and no greeter/hostess, but our server was very nice handled our table of 7 very well. They offer Elk and Bison burgers on the menu, but I went with the bacon burger and I was not disappointed at all. Excellent food all the way around the table. There is a helicopter tour service in the same facility which made it a tad loud, but the kids thought it was the coolest thing to see the helicopter take off and land right next door. read more

We we're just going to get something to go because we had our puppy with us, but they were very polite and wanted us to bring our puppy in. it was a very friendly atmosphere and the food was very good and dessert was even better. they have a restaurant overlooking a river down below so not only do you eat but you get the full sound of a river in the background. The service was slow but servers pleasant. The bathrooms were pretty sketchy, but they gave the kids a menu and crayons...
