To be clear, the people from this company are normally very conscientious and pleasant. There is one person who comes monthly, and he is very considerate and nice. He calls ahead and always wears a mask. Today, however, was the city fire inspection with the FDNY. It was a different person from the company and he was accompanying (masked) city fire officials. As he stepped into my apartment, he pulled his t-shirt up over his face for a second and followed the rest of the group to the basement for the inspection. I have a bunch of disposable masks so I chased after him and handed him one and said, `I can't believe your job is walking into people's houses and you think it's OK not to wear a mask.' And the guy gave me attitude! `I don't have to wear one and if you didn't want me to come in, you shouldn't have let me in.' I didn't even realize at first what he had done! I have never had a problem with people from this company before. This is one guy, it was the first time I had seen him (and hopefully the last), and unfortunately he wouldn't tell me his name. There were several witnesses with him, though, so if the company wants to identify him, I am sure they can. This was in Harlem, a little before 3 p.m. last Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020. Also, just in case someone has missed this: The risk of not wearing a mask is not only yours. It's everyone you encounter. You can be asymptomatic and also highly contagious. And if your job is to go in and out of people's apartments all day, I can't even imagine what kind of a person you'd have to be to think that's OK.
