Recently immortalised in a sketch on Limmy's Show (BBC- not all that funny but with a certain Glasgow wry wit), The Finnieston Crane is best viewed at a distance- say from a boat going past. I am not that impressed by the walk along the Clyde, and while this is a marvel from the industrial past, I don't really recommend taking a trip on foot. The Clyde simply isn't laid out for casual day-trippers.
It is lit up at night, and dominates the Clyde skyline, and is quite beautiful, in a postindustrial, melancholic way. In recent years, as the city expanded and housing developments sprung up nearby, it became more of a tame feature, but for many years it was a testament to a glorious city tamed by the change in economic fortune. read more
