I've lived in Feinberg Properties for 7 years, and the management has been consistently awful. Every interaction regarding renewals or leasing terms has been frustrating, unhelpful, and unnecessarily difficult. Diane, in particular, is one of the worst. She's consistently rude on the phone, dismissive, and completely lacking in professionalism. It's baffling how someone with such poor communication skills is in a role dealing with tenants. This is the worst building you will ever find. I lived in the apartments on Boylston St for a year and it was the worst tenant experience of my life. Management is awful and non responsive. There are rodents everywhere. The garbage bins are overflowing to the point where they put the trash in the common spaces. This caused rodents to come in to the building as well as roaches. The front door locks don't work so I had over $1,000 of packages stolen and management didn't care and they never fixed the locks. There is mold everywhere. Nothing is up to code. It is super unsafe and anyone who is even considering this PLEASE DO NOT LIVE HERE. They enter your apartment without consent whenever they want which is entirely unlawful. Dianne in particular is the worst. She has no business working here or even with people. Super unpleasant and unprofessional. Whatever you do, do not live here. It's also expensive for what you get. . I stayed at their apartments on boylston st for about a year. The apartments are really really old, and tiny, but well maintained. The in building washer and dryer was enough for the residents. Whenever I ran into maintenance issues and placed a request, it was taken care of the next day. I think the management did a good job of ensuring a good experience. The only frustration i had with this company was their inability to provide a secure area for the residents packages. I had so many packages that were stolen and I could never get my money back because they were delivered. Theft is a big occurrence in their apartments and they shouldn't dodge the responsibility by putting a " we are not responsible for your stolen items" sign. They need a designated mailing room that is only accessible by residents. Also, please replace that ancient elevator. It's seriously not safe. read more

EDITING THIS because Fineberg took the liberty of going into my apartment BEFORE my lease was up, professionally cleaned it, and threw the rest of my stuff out that I had left behind and came back for (including my expensive vacuum). DO NOT rent from them for any reason. I've been living in swamp-like conditions for over a month and the lack of response from the company is atrocious. I've been told, more times than I can count, that they'll "get back to me" but never once has that happened. Apparently, a steam pipe is broken, but that's "not something that can be fixed in a day. We will need to call a contractor." THEN CALL. They patched some holes in the wall after I moved in and still have not been back to sand them. They will not fix the leaking sink. Our smoke detectors weren't working and it took them 3 visits to replace them. I missed work yesterday because my front door wouldn't close. Horrible Horrible! The worst housing management company ever! Their buildings especially the one where I live in - 1687 Commonwealth Avenue is old and filled with holes and rodents!!! Their management i.e property managers such as: Zachary Rosenberg was rude and inconsiderate to begin with. In this situation of COVID -19 where hygiene and social distance is of the utter importance - we were forced to face multiple mice in our house (imagine on the cooking stove and in my very own bedroom) The house was clean - we even got a deep cleaning done ( which should have been done and paid by the management as the mice got into our house due to the multiple holes present in the building). They are not agreeing to pay for the cleaning or any sort of compensation for the living expenses (as I haven't stayed at my place in over 2 months) and ready to put the blame on us! This is literally a mental harassment. Especially for international students who don't even have the choice of going back to their home country. We deserve the lease to be broken and us to be compensated for all the emotional torture we went through and such management companies should be held responsible for their behavior and the buildings they rent out!! So so so so horrible. Please god do not move in to a building they manage. I've been living in absolute hell in my one year of being with fineberg. My tiny well kept clean studio has so many cockroaches. I've spent thousands of dollars on hotel fees as it got so bad I couldn't sleep at night and I was scared my cat could ingest one and get sick. The building is falling apart. There are GIANT roaches in every corner of the halls, basement, stairways. And I mean giant. When I first discovered my apartment had roaches, i called fineberg frantically. They refused to help or reimburse for any hotel fees or anything which judging how unkind and unhelpful they've been in the past I was not surprised. But my god they have fumigated so many times and I don't think they even know how to because we keep getting these roaches and might I add other various insects. The place is literally nasty and has been falling apart at the seams since we moved in. All the wood is peeling off the walls, the closets. I pushed into our bathroom door with the tiniest bit of force and it broke in half. The thinnest piece of wood i've ever seen in my life. Not a SINGLE package can ever be delivered to me via mail. Everything in the lobby gets ransacked and stolen. Which doesn't surprise me because the main door to the building stays PROPED open for hours and hours a day with absolutely no security. Fineberg Management is kind of like the brother that annoys the heck out of you, but at the end of the day, you're kind of okay with the fact that you two are related. Let me explain my experiences with the company: Pros: + They respond to all maintenance requests, large or small, within a reasonable period of time (less than 24 hours most of the time). + They were excellent about replacing broken appliances, including a refrigerator and oven/stove. + When you contact their offices, someone does get back to you within the promised time period. It doesn't always mean you will like the answer, but they do respond. Cons: - I resided at a property of theirs in Brighton. You can imagine how little upkeep went into the building. - They hired an electrical team to come into our unit, without notice while we were on vacation, who proceeded to tear holes in our walls and leave them open. We had to contact them for a week to finally get the electrical team to agree to return to patch up the holes. All in all, I would return to a Fineberg managed property, though it may not be my first choice. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. THE PROBLEMS HERE NEVER END. TIP: IF YOU'RE STUCK LIVING HERE, I suggest calling an inspector so they can legally document everything that is wrong!!! First off, whoever thinks Fineberg is even a half decent company probably has never had a good landlord ever in their life. The first red flag is that they don't require a deposit when you sign the lease. NO DEPOSIT MEANS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THEIR APARTMENT UNITS. I initially signed on for a year's lease after having complications with a previous housing agreement. Because I was in such a rush to have housing for the next year, I reluctantly signed on. I lived on the 1100 block of Boylston St. My studio apartment had gorgeous views of Fenway, but that was hardly consolation for the rest of the troubles I was going to endure!!! They charge you $100+ to park for 20 min on move in day (Sept 1). When you move into the apartment, it's filthy. The apartment was dusty and dirty all together. The previous tenants trash and old furniture etc. was still in the apartment at the time of move in (1PM). When I complained about this they told me "Well, you should have called us before you moved in." After I looked around the apartment, I noticed that there were several things NOT UP TO CODE. The shower tiles were falling off and cheaply patched with stucco. The shower pain was also peeling beyond repair. The ceiling in the bathroom was falling down. Some windows were broken. One of the door locks was broken. There were graffiti tags all over the apartment. The faucet was broken so that it only dripped water. I reported this immediately to management when I moved in and it took them two weeks to get to the faucet, graffiti, and broken lock. Throughout my stay, they never got through to the shower or ceiling. They only got to the windows after I threatened to take legal action. One time, my CO alarm was running out of battery. The rental contract stated that I must report this immediately which I obviously did for my own safety. When I called about it, their staff personnel asked me "do you smell any gas??" LIKE NO. THAT'S WHY THE DETECTOR IS THERE. She told me she'd call someone to be on it the next day but no one came for a whole week. After being peeved by the chirping, I changed it myself!!!! The neighbors are all college students who don't care about their apartments, but why should they because it's in absolute shambles! The apartment next door to me was a 2 bedroom, but 10 people were living there. Tenants smoke weed and cigarettes indoors and the stench seeps through the walls. I had to call the police to the building multiple times because there were drunk people threatening my neighbors and banging on my door in the middle of the night. This place is also infested with rats and cockroaches. Management is also concerned about bed bugs so they give you a day's notice in advance to tell you they are going around to see if you have beg bugs. They'll come in at 7am and throw anti bed bug powder all over your apartment even if you don't have bed bugs. read more

Fineberg has the worst reputation for a management company in all of Allston/Brighton. I've heard horror story after horror story and was reluctant to sign a lease with them. But my girlfriend and I were in need of a place to live, so we signed it. 6 months later, we renewed our lease for another year. I can only speak about our specific apartment and the experience that we have had. To address some of the more common issues, we haven't encountered any mice, bugs, flies, or other unwanted pests. We haven't had any problems with mold or trash pickup or snow removal or structural issues. For such an old building, all of this was a welcomed surprise. Perhaps best of all, we have never had an issue with noise. I know that's hit or miss, but at times it's so quiet that it feels like we live way out in the suburbs We've had minor issues here and there, but everything has been resolved so far. The washer in the laundry facilities has been busted a few times, but it's always been fixed within 24 hours notice. The biggest problem we had was with the heat in early January. Our radiators shut off for almost a day. I contacted Fineberg directly and they had someone sent out within an hour to fix it. I will say that it's more likely than not that your apartment will not be cleaned upon move in. The leases end 8/31 and move in is 9/1; they allow for less than 24 hours for their cleaning crews to clean the apartments. When we moved in, they hadn't touched our apartment yet. Another issue is with solicitation. There have been a handful of times where a small group of Eastern European people have knocked on our door to scam us into a nonexistent electric company. When I called Fineberg about this, they just said to make sure not to buzz anyone in that you don't know. I get that, but they should probably post something in the lobby so that people are aware about the problem. If you're accustomed to the standards of cheap city living, then you probably won't have too many issues. If you're expecting a brand new, dazzling luxury apartment with countless amenities... Not just customer service, but general health and safety regulations are violated daily - it is an unsafe place to live, in every possible human way. I've seen dogs get sick from entering this place because they can smell the dead rodents in the walls and the diseased floors. I lived in a Fineberg building on Washington St., and it was AWFUL. I couldn't even use my hair dryer without blowing a fuse in my apartment, and the trek to the fusebox in the basement was a giant pain in the butt. I also have a similar move-out story to another yelper. I scheduled my move for two days before my lease was over. The night of the move, I went back to my Fineberg apartment to pick up some things from the medicine cabinet. They were GONE! Two bottles of nice perfume (family gifts). I hated having to lie to my parents about how nice the perfume was/how much I wore it, but I didn't have the heart to tell them that my shitty landlords (excuse the language) threw out both bottles. Also, the broker representing the next tenants would not stop CALLING ME asking me to let his new tenants move in early. Why on earth would I hurry to leave an apartment so that I could pay for other people to live there for a few days? Finally, I paid $150/month to park in the back of the building, and I clearly displayed my parking sticker in the correct place on my car. Despite this, I caught a towing company trying to tow my car TWICE for no reason. I had to go outside and tell them to stop. This was three years ago and I still feel like I deserve financial compensation for the disaster. read more

I moved to the apartment building on Boylston in September of 2014 and have faced countless problems that are constantly left unresolved. When I moved in, NOTHING was cleaned. All the windows, screens, and doors were broken. The hallways constantly smell like burning cigarettes and gas. The washers and dryers are NEVER working. There are bugs everywhere. Even if you do call their supposed "24/7 management service," they will not respond to you and if they do, nobody shows up to you unit and they just expect you to know after 10 minutes that "your problems aren't an emergency." If it were possible to give negative stars, I would definitely do it. The maintenance is HORRIB. I'm in a building in Mount Hood Rd, Brighton and Fineberg owns this whole building. The maintenance is HORRIBLE. I'm not even talking about the condition when I moved in. I got it that this is an area full of students and people kinda expect that it's not gonna be that clean when you first moved in. But at least I'm looking forward to fixing problems after I moved in. The ladies who answer the maintenance call (day and night) are the rudest ever. They get pissed off once I said we called about this issue before. One of them went crazy and was laughing sarcastically at the other end of the phone for no reasons. The conversations with the maintenance is NEVER pleasant. Sometimes they even hang up. We've dealt with the mice problem over the winter. The mice come almost every single night. Fineberg responded by sending some mice traps and that's it. We asked them to check the holes and get them blocked and this hasn't been done for months. Our dishwasher never worked since day 1 and it never get solved. Our apartment is on the top floor and the roof leaks when it rains hard. Many other minor issues. Some of them get fixed after several phone calls and some never get fixed and we just give up. If you do get a place managed by Fineberg, be prepared. The day I moved into my apartment, the place was extremely dirty, the shades on the windows were broken and our front door was falling apart. During the winter time the heat turned on and off every other hour, so it would get very cold during the winter time. One time my bedroom was an ice box, so I called the management team and was told that there is nothing they can do. People who work at the Fineberg Management are very rude and unprofessional. The building was also surrounded by big rats, they go in and out the building all the time. We were planning to return to get the rest of the smaller things (mainly things in the bathroom.) Upon returning, we found that everything had been removed. We go to the dumpster in the back and what's in there? Both our Clarisonics, both our Sonicare toothbrushes .. I'm going to assume that all our skincare products are gone along with all the other bathroom appliances we owned. Oh and on top of that, my TI-89 calculator is gone. So not only did your cleaners throw away things that were clearly still useful, they went through my school bag (which THANK GOD my text books were still there...) and took my calculator. Why am I so sure that I didn't pack it or misplace it? I had class on Friday, which is the last night we packed everything. We had until midnight to vacate. We got there around 8pm. Upon move in (September firs, 2015) We found our building had no screens installed in the windows. All three of my roommates and I have made over thirty calls regarding the installation of said screens to no avail. One time, without any prior notice what so ever, they sent people out to our house when no one was there to meet them. Once they arrived they left us a note that said 'there are things in front of the windows and we will not be back until you move them'. There was two boxes and a chair in front of 2 of the 11 windows that needed screens. Upon calling them to tell them that the belongings had been moved, and requesting that they return, nothing has happened. It is now April. No screens. I live on Mt. Hood Road. My apartment gets charged $20 more a month for parking in the lot behind the apartments. This has never been explained to us. The company has towed cars from the parking lot in the back for being there for less than half an hour. Management sends people to come into your house without any prior notice, and when we return all of the locks will be locked differently and our toilet seat will be up. They are grumpy, slow, and rude. I would never, EVER, advise anyone to move here as they are not people friendly and are only in this for the absurd rent prices, which HAVE and WILL go up each year. read more

Fineberg management has a huge portfolio of rental properties in Allston, Brighton, Brookline, and Fenway. The apartments are affordable and include heat and hot water. Unlike most landlords, they usually pay the realtors the fees, and only charge first and last month's rent with no security deposit - meaning it is much more affordable for he renter! Their buildings could certainly use some updating to the kitchens and bathrooms, but they are always delivered cleans and freshly painted. They also seem to be far larger in size than comparable apartments in the Boston area. One thing I have to say is that they are honest and fair in all their dealings. read more

A mouse sprinting across my living room floor, sneaking into a gap between the floor and wall. No, it's not the first mouse I've seen here and it will certainly not be the last. I am, too, a twenty-something-young-professional who is seeking an affordable and above decent apartment. You would think Fineberg would like to retain tenants like me -- responsible, stable job, not a heavy partier. Instead, I get attitude from Gina, Karen, and other property managers. What is so gruesome about Mt Hood Rd? - Kitchen: This hasn't been updated since 1990, most likely. Our floor is some cheap formerly-white laminate tiles that is permanently dingy, no matter how much we scrub. - No dish washer - Only 1 full-size kitchen cabinet. How are three adults suppose to store pots, pans, and dishes with 1 full-size and 3 cubicle cabinets? - Mice throughout the building. When I called about it, pest control just laid down sticky traps that immediately adhered to our feet and household appliances. I guess they're too cheap and lazy to actually fill the holes where rodents enter (e.g., cracks in the floor board) - Constant electricity outages. We were told that our apartment shares a fuse box with another apartment. Of course, black outs happen at least once a week. - No washer/dryer, not even a coin-operated one even though our basement is huge enough to accommodate several machines. Despite all this, Fineberg has the audacity to raise our rent to $2100 for a 3 bedroom! $700 a person?! For this crap? I tried to reasonably negotiate with management about making upgrades to our apartment, at least that would justify the rent increase. Or they could lower our rent to $650, more reflective for Allston/Brighton. This ingrate gave me nothing but attitude. To my demands she responded, if I don't like the apartment then I should move. And that's exactly what I will do. Unfortunately, Fineberg will never have an incentive to make upgrades thanks to the constant market of BC and BU students. Welcome to college town! read more

How do you know you're walking into a Fineberg establishment? First thing to do is to check their list of currently owned buildings at their website. Second, and especially if a realtor is showing you around a bunch of places that day, avoid any building that has a visible bright red laminated sign in the entrance foyer saying that roof access is grounds for eviction. -- All fineberg buildings have this red sign. The reviews here on Yelp for Fineberg management/companies are pretty funny, I've gotten a few laughs myself over how you'd think this kind of service just isn't possible from a company -- but oh, it is. I've read through them all, and I'm laughing (followed by sadness and deep concern) that every single complaint you've read here is true. Don't take what you're reading about Fineberg lightly. If you disregard these reviews and get an apartment, mark my words -- you WILL think back to this very review and think to yourself "You know? I really should've listened to that guy on yelp." Where do I even begin with my two years here at Mt. Hood Road in Brighton? I suppose I could start with move in. I, too, was suckered into this place because we were late in the game in apartment hunting. It was our best choice, and based from a short realtor showing, it more than fine for our needs -- it's not like we had time to inspect anything in detail. So, it's true -- no one will come by to clean the apartment at move in. We had to clean everything ourselves. A painting crew did come by to paint the apartment, but they did 2 weeks after we moved in. Maintenance people will show up at the apartment unannounced and do god knows what at any given time, sometimes just to use your apartment as a short-cut to get to the back of the building. Don't be surprised if they accidentally cut your power when working on an adjacent unit. We didn't notice at the initial showing, but the walls in this apartment are completely appalling. When this building was first erected, the rooms had wallpaper. When fineberg bought the building, it seems like they didn't want to spend the time to remove the wallpaper so they painted right over it. 42 coats of paint later, year after year, the wallpaper and adhesive has disolved, causing the paint to crack absolutely everywhere and form gigantic soft spots (air bubbles) behind. There are some parts of the apartment where the paint on the walls is sagging, melting down over itself like a Dali painting. The floors also look like they've been used for ice hockey practice -- without any ice. We as well had only one outlet per room in our apartment, and they're all the old 60's style 2-prong type. No grounding in this place, no sir! Our bathroom had no plug at all -- forcing us to run a heavy-duty extension cord out the window of an adjacent bedroom. What's worse, the wiring in the apartment is so old, we only had 15 amps of power TOTAL to the whole apartment -- a 3 bedroom apartment -- 15 amps. If you want to use a vacuum cleaner, you're gonna have to turn off everything else first, guaranteed. Absolutely forget about installing an air-conditioner, you'll blow th Then there's the kitchen. You know how some other reviewers here talk about their floors being cheap, impossible-to-clean plastic? Get this -- not only are our floor plastic, but all of our cabinets and drawers are too. Plastic! Plastic that was molded and painted to look like wood. It's one of those details we didn't notice in the initial showing. When we found out that the kitchen was completely made out of plastic, that's when we felt duped. You pull out a drawer, and it screeches from the cheap plastic rubbing against cheap plastic. Step2 could have done a better job making this kitchen. Over my two years here, we've had over 100 mouse sightings, countless more house-centipede sightings, and more than a couple humungous spider sightings. Since fineberg never did a thing about the mouse problem, we were forced to take matters into our own hands with live traps. (Sorry, I can't deal with glue/snap traps.) With just one trap, I caught 7 mice -- and that was still not enough to get all of them. To this day, mice are still an issue, leaving collections of poo absolutely everywhere, especially in our stove and pantry. Even our bedrooms! Why?! To this day, they still have not replaced the shattered (yes shattered) window pane, and windows with broken vertical-release locks in our living room that we informed them about at move in. They still have not sealed the 4+ holes in the walls and floor in which vermin enter. After I leave this forsaken place, they will likely not remodel it for the next poor sap either. I could go on and on -- really, there's THAT much to say. But, it seems I'm limited to a 5000 character limit... So I'll leave it to this: Just Say No to Fineberg. I have never been so misled by yelp and apartmentratings.com. I live in the Fenway/Boylston St apartments. We signed for this place BEFORE I saw the reviews (we were getting desperate to find an August 1 move-in at this point), and I'm so glad that we did. I have never seen anyone too sketchy near the building. The place doesn't smell. The hallways are clean. The old elevator is sketchy but appears to be inspected regularly, and I really can't complain because I live on the fifth floor. The noise level is really not too bad -- perhaps we got lucky with who our neighbors are. I've been here for 6 months and have seen no rats or insects. Also, it's winter now and my heat is just fine. Sometimes it's even on the cooler side, which I prefer. Management: We've had to contact them twice. The first time there was a miscommunication between our realtor and Fineberg, so our locks changed after our realtor gave us the keys, and this led to us being locked out the first time we left the building. Apparently this isn't uncommon. The locksmith came within an hour, let us in, and changed the locks the next day. The second time we called was because there was an incessantly barking dog in the building, and dogs aren't allowed. We figured out which unit it was coming from and called management, who called us back the next day to let us know that tenant was moving out soon anyway. Both times we were friendly and they were friendly back. Pros: close to T, GREAT location, elevator, roomy apartments (I have a huge living room and an eat-in kitchen), no fee/security (seems dubious but hey, I don't want to be the one to repaint my plum bedroom when I move out), laundry in building or in a neighboring building, quiet enough, relatively affordable especially if you have a roommate, good water pressure and temperature in the showers most of the time, area seems pretty safe Cons: There definitely are undergrads in the building, and I've had a package stolen from the mail area once (and so has another tenant), the laundry area is dirty and some of the machines aren't working from time to time, our unit was either quickly cleaned or not cleaned at all before we moved in but luckily for us the previous tenants were neat so we didn't really have to clean anyway, on occasion there is no hot water (or the water doesn't get very hot), depending on where your unit is, it can be noisy outside due to Fenway games or highway traffic Is this place perfect? Definitely not. Is it as bad as the reviews make it out to be? DEFINITELY not. Unless something terrible happens in the next few months, I'll be renewing my lease here. My apartment is huge, reasonably priced, and the location is fantastic. read more

Mice infestation in apartment on 1350 Commonwealth Avenue. Management is incredibly rude and places issues back on the tenants.

I'd like to start off by saying that I don't typically write yelp reviews, but due to all of the negativity on here, I wanted to give my perspective after living in a Fineberg building for a year. I'm not saying you should expect the best apartment of your life here, but you should know that there are plenty of tenants that have had an enjoyable experience renting with this company. My boyfriend and I lived on the top (3rd) floor of a unit in Allston near Comm Ave. We had spent about a month searching for an apartment in May for a September lease (for those of you that know Boston, the real estate market is a mess) and specifically, we wanted an apartment that was no fee. A broker fee is paying $2,000 or however ungodly amount for a real estate broker to open a door for you. Since our apartment with Fineberg, we've had to use a broker to get another apartment and it was a nightmare. But that's another story. Anyways, we met with Dennis and he showed us the unit. It was a one bedroom that was about ~500 square feet. Small and old, but again, that's Boston. The previous tenants had left their apartment pretty messy, and the unit was small, but we liked it. There was also no security deposit which was a huge bonus. When we toured the apartment, we did not poke our heads in, look around, and call it good. I think people do a terrible of job of actually viewing the apartments they're considering, and then get all pissed off when stuff doesn't work after they move in. We turned on the water and tested the pressure, we felt the heat, we asked the current tenants how everything was, we checked that windows opened, we turned the stove on, etc. REALLY LOOK AT THE APARTMENT BEFORE YOU MOVE IN. So many of these reviews are "there were bugs and mice" or "XYZ didn't work". By being thorough with your review of a unit, you can avoid a lot of shit. Just my two cents. We signed the lease and lived there for a year. A couple of annoyances with building in general (not Fineberg's fault) - the walls are paper thin and a couple down the hall from us had a baby. Not sure why on earth you would want to raise a family in an apartment full of college students but whatever. We heard the baby a lot, which was annoying. The heat got a too hot during the winters, but we just cracked our window and let some cold air in. Not that big of a deal - I'd rather have it a little warm than not working at all. Our hot water went out twice in the year we were there, but we were promptly notified and it was a problem within a section of Allston entirely, not just Fineberg. We had a couple of issues with our fridge not staying cold and they supplied an entirely new appliance the day after we submitted our request, which was awesome. We also had the toilet shop flushing, and again, they were in the next day to fix things. If you submit a request, they are very prompt about following up and fixing things. It was annoying that they showed up at 8 am on a Saturday to fix it, but hey, I'm not going to complain for being too prompt. Overall, we had very few issues over our year with Fineberg. When we did have an issue, they were extremely prompt in fixing it. I would highly recommend Dennis as well, because he was very honest about everything. The ONE thing I want to note that really bugged the crap out of us - when we decided not to re-sign our lease, Fineberg gave my cell phone number to (what felt like) every broker in the city. It's required that we got a 24 hour notice before anyone came into our apartment, but for a full month after our unit went on the market, my cell phone was literally flooded with calls/text from brokers. Some of them are so rude, too - not "can we show your place at this specified time" but more like "we're coming at 7 am Saturday morning" which got super old. I work full time and I came out of a meeting to 12 missed calls and 7 texts from brokers wanting to show our place. Even after someone signed the lease, nobody from Fineberg took it off the market and I still got calls and texts for a couple of weeks. Besides that, though, we had a relatively good year and I would recommend. read more

I wanted to update my review as I just noticed I hadn't included my building address: I lived by Fenway at 1191 Boylston. I'm pretty sure they own the whole block of buildings. I neglected to mention the fact that there were massive rats that lived in the garden out front and homeless people would often relieve themselves in (yes in and I'm talking #2) about or around the building and Fineburg made no effort at removing either problem. II honestly expected a little better but Fineburg was completely negligent. read more

Living in a Fineberg managed apartment requires some grit and a significant lowering of your expectations and standards. The apartments are poorly maintained and there are cockroaches and mice everywhere. These vermin could never seem to be eradicated despite multiple treatments. Although they were somewhat responsive to maintenance requests their answering service was at time rude or would provide vague answers like "we'll call you back" and they never would. They contracted cheap repair people who did shoddy repair jobs that often required another fix. For example or shower had to be fixed multiple times in a short time span for the same problem because the repair guy did a sketchy job. One summer they decided to hire a company to clean a our facade. This was supposed to take 1-2 months but eventually took the whole summer and more. The worst thing was that the scaffolding was obscuring our windows and we could not sit in the living room during the day as the works were constantly outside our windows looking in. Any attempts to talk to Fineberg about this situation were met with hostility and ignorance. We constantly had our packages stolen and the company's preferred approach was to simply post a sign telling tenants no to have packages delivered to the building. They made no attempt to investigate or stop the problem. AVOID any FINEBERG managed buildings at all costs. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST. They are the worst and most unprofessional management company in Boston, and no human being deserves to live in an apartment managed by them. The apartments are infested with cockroaches and mice. The day I moved in, there were numerous holes in the wall. There is no soundproof at all; it is so loud you cannot sleep at night. Both the maintenance and management can't do their jobs and are not cooperative or reasonable. They charge you a lockout fee when they did not leave you with the new keys after they changed the locks, and I have had my packages gone missing a few times due to bad security. It's very clear they don't care about their tenants, and if you have a problem, good luck because they're not going to do anything to help you. Just live somewhere else. read more

I have been renting for 7 years, and Fineberg has been the best landlord I have ever had. I saw 14 apartments in one day before I walked into this gem in Fenway - a studio plus with giant gorgeous windows, crown molding, and glass front cabinets. I was concerned when I saw the reviews on here, but with no security deposit and only a half fee, it was definitely the best deal I could find. These people have been nothing short of amazing, you just have to COMMUNICATE! I wasn't happy with the condition of the bathtub, and they had someone refinishing it within 48 hours after I moved in. Light bulbs in the high ceiling and weird light fixture goes out, they had someone out here who replaced all my light fixtures with brand new ones! When my smoke detector detached from the ceiling and there were bugs flying in, someone came and patched the hole immediately. They've fixed my stove, my light switch, and most recently, a mold problem that was caused from my own A/C leaking onto the drywall. Not only was there never a question of fault, there was never a charge, and everything was taken care of day-of or next day. I have never seen a rat or a cockroach, but I do have a cat. I've been told that cats keep any pests away in the city, and based on my experience I would HIGHLY recommend it. Anyone looking at living in a big city has to set realistic expectations - the buildings are old, but they have beautiful features new construction just doesn't have. If you are willing to communicate with the property managers when things crop up, they are extremely willing to fix anything, since they understand how old these buildings are. I would highly recommend Fineberg to anyone looking at living in Boston! read more

I was so scared by these Yelp reviews that I almost backed out of a lease with Fineberg. Then I talked to the previous tenants, realized they'd had an okay experience, and went for it. Now my boyfriend and I will be renewing our lease for another year. We live in a building with all 1-beds and studios, so maybe that makes a difference in how much attention is paid to the property. It's true that you don't have to pay a security deposit, meaning that there are lots of holes in our walls from previous tenants. But my bf and I don't really care, because otherwise the place is totally fine. We came from a nightmarish previous situation where we were constantly seeing cockroaches and mice -- there is NONE of that in this building. I can't tell you how much my life has improved not being scared of seeing cockroaches whenever I'm home by myself. And if we did have a problem, I am confident Fineberg would be helpful. They've completed our (minor) maintenance requests very quickly -- they unplugged our shower drain and fixed our broken kitchen sink within 24 hours or submitting the request. This is in contrast to our last apartment where our bathroom ceiling collapsed and it literally took a month to get it fixed. Honestly, when you're in a certain price range and you want to live in a good location (close to T, grocery store, restaurants, etc) apartments are going to have issues. This apartment has been surprisingly great, and my boyfriend and I love being just a quick walk from everything we need. If you're looking to rent with Fineberg, I'd see if you can talk to the previous tenants about their experience. They own a LOT of buildings and most people won't come to Yelp to post a positive review. read more

Lived on Comm. Ave. for about a year and a half. Nothing had been cleaned for me when I arrived and the first time I used the oven it caught on fire. The window also fell open and broke during the worst blizzard of the year. After saying I would not renew my lease, they gave my personal phone number out to several realtors who were given keys and entered the apartment without any permission. In the last month of my lease I came back to the apartment to find that someone with keys had entered it without permission and looked around. The maintenance office called afterwards and asked if I was all moved out. After telling them I was not, they proceeded to enter the apartment while I was not there and threw out everything that was left in it. I ended up digging through the trash to get some of my clothes and family antiques. The furniture that I had in the apartment was not only thrown out but also broken (doors ripped off the cabinets and shelves no where to be found) so I could not salvage it. I emailed and called their office three times afterwards to see if they could do anything to rectify the situation and no one ever responded. This was all while I had two weeks left on my lease. read more

Need to be better win repair and maintenance. Shit show happened during shiftchange because one maintenance guy assumed the other one would do it and no one ever did anything. They fucking need to have a better system in figuring out this kind of scheduling error. Extremely irresponsible in this sense. read more

I'm giving 1 star because of how they manage, not of the properties itself. The unit in which I live is actually old but decent (liken it to 3/5 stars), but Fineberg has piss-poor response to their maintenance requests. Here are two of my worst experiences: I saw roaches multiple times. I tend to keep my space tidy and I'm not there often enough to create messes that attract infestation. When I first spotted roaches, I asked Fineberg to call pest control, to which they responded that they would come by on Friday. All they did was leave a single roach trap under my kitchen sink. I called again when I saw roaches a second time, and again, they left another roach trap. I ended up having to take care of the problem myself because it became clear after multiple calls that they wouldn't much more than that. During the winter, the heat coming through the pipes made my unit unbearably hot. I asked maintenance to come and apply insulation to the pipes to block the heat. Instead, the guy came in when I wasn't there, shut the radiator off, and managed to break my external hard disk while he was at it. Management claims they can't do anything about it, even though I have physical proof that they did. Bottom line - if you're not the kind to attract misfortune, rent with Fineberg. For the rest of us mere mortals, go elsewhere. read more

Great place to be! It's the easiest building for any beloved rodent to access! There are even secret passageways behind the stove and counters for the rats to make quiet, considerate entries as not to wake you up. :) Remember to have a fruit bowl on your counter, because those cute little critters will surely enjoy the treat! Aw! The building is totally freezing in Boston's snowy winter due to lack of insulation and faulty windows that don't close all the way, so if you've been looking for a reason to splurge on a lush winter coat, thank Fineberg! Give them a call or try to catch them via email anytime, and they WILL NOT respond GUARANTEED! Probably because they're busy being so top-notch amazing. :) Tonight, I tried to close my window, and it FELL OFF onto my fingers! YAY! Thanks, Fineberg! Not only does this mean I get to take time off from practicing until they heal, but I don't even have to feel the pain since it's so cold in my room! (I swear, they think of everything!) :) Hate privacy? Want to hear your neighbors getting frisky all day from down the hall? Good thing Fineberg's buildings are sound-proof proof! The amenities are also overly protective; it's so cute! The oven shuts off mid-bake to make sure you didn't forget it was on, and the smoke alarm makes sure to scream for every five minutes you cook or are in the shower! Every single package I've ever received at this building has magically disappeared, so guess who doesn't have to thank grandma for any birthday gifts?? This gal! Thanks to Fineberg's crusade against fixing the front door to the building or installing security cameras, I have no way to know who took them, so I don't even have to worry! Fineberg makes sure that the laundry facility always consists of at least two broken amenities, to insure that their tenants always have an excuse to never do laundry! So in short, if you love wildly expensive, cold, cramped apartments that probably haven't been renovated since the 50's, Fineberg is your winner! *Note: Your experience response may vary. read more
