Perfect for these cold winter days, Bikram Yoga is a practice of 26 postures in a heated room of 42…read moredegrees celsius (104 degrees farenheit) developed by Bikram Choudhury, an Indian instructor who now resides in LA.
Bikram yoga is addictive, and the trainers and Bikram Yoga Centro know it. That is why they have great "try before you buy" pricing -- especially during the summer (seriously, checkout their summer specials if you are a first timer, sometimes they have 15 classes for 15 mil)! After however, the prices go up starting at 60 mil for 8 classes in 2 months or 12mil for a 1 day walk-in class. Because of the price, I would say it is a great thing to add to your weekly exercise routine. However, like I said earlier, it is quite addictive and a perfect way to end a stressful day of work.
The center is also good about putting your subscription on hold if you leave the country for a bit or have special circumstances (just make sure to let them know in advance).
Tips:
Come 15-20min early so you can get a good spot. Before changing, go into the room and leave your towel and mat to "claim" your spot (depending on what you consider a 'good spot') and then head directly to the changing rooms to get a locker (there are not too many closed lockers). If what you want is a view in the mirror so you can perfect your poses, go to the front of the class. If you would prefer to have a *bit* extra space (most of the classes fill up) go to the left side of the class by one of the walls.
The classes in the evening are always the most packed. If you want the instructor to give you more specific help on your poses, I recommend coming during the 9am class or the 1:30pm class.
If you don't have a mat or towel, you can rent them from the center for a total $1.400. However, if you plan on doing this long term, I recommend buying your own mat and towel (there are several cheap places where you can buy yoga gear in the city).
Keep in mind this is not an 'in & out' type of activity. Between getting there early, the class and changing afterward you're looking at about 2.5 hours.
If you are in a rush, after savasana, I recommend getting up quickly (and quietly) and head to the showers directly so you don't have to wait in line.
Essentials: besides your regular yoga materials, I recommend bringing flip flops (you have to leave your shoes outside of the classroom and perfect for the showers after) a large bottle of h20 (for after) as well as an extra towel to take a shower and your shower essentials such as shampoo and conditioner. Bring a lock to keep your stuff safe in the lockers (although I have kept my stuff outside and have never had a problem). Also, don't forget a couple of plastic bags for all of your very wet belongings.
