My Metro Fit - wedding dress

My Metro Fit is a one-woman show helmed by the ever so lovely Marie. I first reached out to her…read morelast fall after ANOTHER business told me that it's almost impossible to alter my wedding dress smaller to fit me. They even told me to sell the dress and buy a new one -- just a couple of months before my ceremony!! Devastated, I reached out to a few more seamstresses. Marie was one of the very first ones to reply. She even told me to bring it in the next day for a free consulting. With just a few text message exchanges, she eased my worries. It wasn't until I arrived that I realized she works out of her home, and at first, I was a bit skeptical, but by the end of our meeting, I knew she had the skills and that I could trust her. She was very upfront about the price and what needed to be done. While the other tailor I went to told me that the dress is wayyyy too big for me, Marie explained that the waist of the dress is very close to my size, so it would be more difficult to alter if the dress shop had ordered a smaller size. My dress has a lot of handsewn appliques, boning, and cups that were enormous on me. It was a lot of tedious work but in two months, Marie had tailored it to my body while still keeping the original design in tact. I especially liked how Marie adjusted the sides if I had any weight fluctations and held off on cutting the fabric until the very end -- this gave me a bit more time to slim down while also ensuring that she wasn't cutting off more fabric than necessary. I also got the usual work of hemming, shortening straps, and adding bustles done. It was a very expensive $900 that was 200% worth it. Marie allowed me to pay off the amount with each visit, a total of 3 or 4 times (I forgot). Later on, my husband custom ordered a tux from Indochino, but the buttons were lopsided and their in-house seamstresses failed to fix it on two different ocassions. With less than a month left until the big day, I reached out to Marie to help my husband with it. It seems like she doesn't usually work on menswear but she accepted the job. She did a terrific job, and as it turns out, the factory had produced a tux that was nowhere near symmetrical, which is why Indochino's in-house seamstresses had trouble with it. But not Marie! Her talent and skills made the tux wearable. So, brides and grooms, stop looking and just go with Marie! You won't regret it. Pictures to come after the reception!

Marie was amazing!…read more She was so efficient! And her work was perfecttttt. After our last fitting, I noticed some things about the dress I wanted to change that we had not discussed (and it was a tricky alteration as it would potentially leave holes) and she made sure to check that it wouldn't ruin the dress before altering it, which I REALLY appreciated. We did a hem, shortening of straps, a simple bustle and removed some lace from the back straps. She did such a great job that you would think I bought the dress like this! Thank you Marie!

Like many post-pandemic men, I wear ties far less often than I used to--but when I do, every tie…read moreand pocket square I own comes from Seigo Katsuragawa. The quality is exceptional, and considering the craftsmanship involved, the pricing is more than reasonable. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the world-class customer service. Shopping here feels personal, thoughtful, and never rushed. Seigo Katsuragawa's story is as compelling as his products. After moving from Tokyo to New York and studying at FIT, he spent years supplying ties to iconic retailers like Paul Stuart and Barneys before launching his own brand in 1992. That experience clearly shows in the refined balance between Japanese craftsmanship and American style. The ties themselves are works of art. The silk is woven in small mills in Kyoto using looms traditionally reserved for kimono fabrics, they are also hand-sewn in Japan. Each design is produced in extremely limited quantities--often only eight or twelve worldwide--and individually numbered. The result is a tie that feels genuinely special, with beautiful, vibrant patterns you simply won't see elsewhere. The Madison Avenue shop remains a welcome redoubt of classic menswear in an era when ties are less common, and it's easy to see why the brand has such a loyal following among professionals and notable figures alike. If you value craftsmanship, understated luxury, and impeccable service, Seigo Katsuragawa is second to none.

Seigo neckties may seem a splurge in this era, but they're worth it!…read more Silk patterns (some in motifs) of highest quality, kimono-grade silk, hand made in Japan and lately sold only at a single Carnegie Hill boutique. My favorite is a forest green basketweave number with multi color "dots" (each a tiny "x" of two strands of thread) -- suitable for wear over Christmas holiday. This line is limited to 8 originals per pattern. Tops!

What a treasure! Well silly me for trusting iPhone's weather! It's been quite warm and I did not have what I needed. A gal who's a resident in the building that I'm staying in sent me to Chris. Wow, what fun. She brought in many pieces for me to try on and 4 of them are perfect + a cute scarf. Chris is pretty intuitive about selecting things that one would like, and she even got me to leave my comfort zone a bit, but me being me, I went right back to where I'm most happy: Not So Basic Black. She's also a lot of fun. And thank you for telling me that I'm "slim hipped" ha! No one has ever said that!!!!!

The clothing, however, is not sized so it definitely takes some patience. Also, they have this huge mirror where you can check yourself out! The lady working there is incredibly helpful and charming.

I brought in a jumpsuit for minor underarm repairs (about 1 inch on each side) and basic cleaning. I was quoted $32 for the repairs and $25 for cleaning--a total of $57 for a single garment. They also wanted to charge $20 just to remove some lint from a coat on top of the cleaning. I did not leave the coat as the quote for cleaning and lint removal was more than the coat is now worth. It's clear these people will charge as much as they can. Unfortunately, there are few cleaners in Harlem, but at this rate, I'd rather travel across state lines to New Jersey. Ridiculous! I did not leave the coat for service, as I could not justify paying these fees. But I did pay $57 for the jumpsuit because I had to have it repaired ASAP. If you're looking for fair pricing for basic repairs or cleaning, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
