Olie's Gift & Ship - Tote

Olie's Gift & Ship

Fun Fact: The store carries cute Cleveland Heights totes perfect for residents and tourists…read more I always wanted to stop by Olie's Gift Shop, and finally did on a slow Sunday. It's every woodland fairy's dream, there are so many gorgeous nature inspired accessories, home goods, purses, and toys. The store is a perfect destination for high-quality one-of-a-kind gifts where you can buy a unique item, a card, some chocolate, quirky socks, and even fabric flowers. It's one of those spots that feels like a hidden gem. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with that cozy, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and look around longer than you planned. I only planned to stop in for a few minutes but wandered forever. The shop is small but packed with personality. There were shelves full of quirky, thoughtful, and often hilarious gifts--everything from locally made candles and clever greeting cards to colorful mugs and Cleveland-themed merch. You can find beauty products, stickers, pins, home goods, puzzles, knit socks, like everything. It felt like every corner had something fun to discover, and I ended up grabbing a cute velvet makeup bag (great value, only $18). One of the coolest parts is that it also doubles as a shipping center in case you'll want to send something to your loved one. I chatted with the owner while checking out, and found her to be very friendly and genuine. It had that community feel--like a place people come to not just shop, but connect. Overall, Olie's is the kind of neighborhood shop I wish every community had: fun, useful, local, and full of heart. I'll definitely be back for greeting cards and gifts. Parking note: You can find street parking in the area or park in two nearby lots off Lee Road.

I stopped in to get a document notarized. Jason the notary is in most mornings, though call to see if he is in before stopping by in the evening. Cleveland Heights is lucky to have them. Stop in to grab a gift for your loved ones or a gift for yourself.

This guy is the real deal in the line of the great masters of the Medieval and Renaissance era. No exaggeration. Notice how few 5-star ratings I give on anything here on Yelp. It might be a bit demeaning even to rate him on Yelp. He brings old-world craftsmanship and creativity to the 21st century. There are few artisans in the world...literally, who could compare with his imagination and execution. You'd have to go to Oberammergau to get something comparable. He works primarily in wood, which is much warmer than marble. He has an incredible capacity for gold-leaf and polychrome statues. While his work is mainly in the sacred arts, he does some outstanding pieces out of his studio, which is a unique, must-visit place on S. Green Road! Thank you, Norbert and family, for bringing such talent to Cleveland that can't be found even in large European (or American) cities!

This weekend I checked it out while waiting for my food order. AMBIANCE/INVENTORY: The store has two well-lit rooms with a variety of gifts. The assortment includes women's apparel, household goods, cute purses, knits, totes, coffee table books, skincare items, decor, kids toys, and everything in between. You can literally walk in and purchase everything on your Christmas list or shop for a certain someone. Talk about efficiency! Around Christmas, Luster has visual lists of gifts for certain people in your like on Instagram like "gift guide for travel" queen. This brings me back to the times we used to read magazines and find these lists there. The lists are very helpful! Year round, their website is very well organized and you can quickly find categories/gift personas. The gifts can also accommodate various budgets. Some items are as low as $12, plenty of options under $50. Apparel tends to be more pricey (around $60-200), and goes up to size L. I was hoping to find a gift bag or a box at Luster for an upcoming girls' Christmas gift exchange. I already have the gifts but need to package them. Surprisingly, the gift shop had no wrapping paper, boxes, bags, or anything for packaging. I was hoping for some unique designs and high quality. I feel like it would be a nice addition to any gifts purchased here. I also then found out that no other surrounding shops at Van Aken seem to have this based on a quick internet search. SERVICE: I didn't experience any service - no greeting and no offer of assistance. I found it quite impersonal. PARKING: There are multiple parking lots at Van Aken - surface lot and parking garage. I can see myself returning to shop for quick gifts in the future and utilizing gift lists. Next time I'll need more time to focus on the extensive inventory. Although to be honest, the lack of service during my visit would make me consider other boutiques around the area first.

I recently visited Ohio to see my cousin and was impressed by the Van Aken District. This food-hall/market space features a variety of eateries, a brewery, and local shops - including Luster. Here you can shop clothes, jewelry, household goods, toys, knickknacks and more. I snagged a few items, including some adorably shaped bird feeders for a friend and fridge magnets with photo frames. The store is decently priced, making it a no brainer when you're looking for a memorable gift.

But if you take a walk through the hallways of Eton, you'll be so pleased to stumble into Mulholland & Sachs. Everything in the store is made in America, which wins immediately in my book. They have a beautiful selection of homewares, bridal gifts and accessories/jewelry. While they carry items by artists and other small makers, they also have well known brands like Kate Spade. They also have gorgeous stationary and student/office accessories. It's also a monogram dream...for everything from monogram cheeseboards and other entertainment pieces. You can also do a wedding registry in the store! But what really impressed me was there customization selection. They can do lovely monogram accessories of all types on items like jewelry boxes, serving trays and more. In the back of the store, they also have a section to do custom pillows with Greek lettering. The fabric is super thick and the pillow is quality. OMG! If any of you know how hard it is find to sorority-licensed merchandise, you're likely gasping with excitement right now, too. I could easily spend hours here, and did, last Sunday! What gorgeous decor, layout, vibes and selection they have! Workers were really friendly as well. The prices of books were high though--no discount at all for new books. Fine to support local but this is why the library will still always be my favorite. What I was confused about is how the books are organized because it is not by author nor by used/new. I'm pretty sure new books were placed right next to pre-owned ones on the same shelf... I did enjoy all the gift and merchandise displays. They were all set up in a way that looked irresistible to buy! My BF bought this photography coffee table book he was really excited about and I got a children's novel illustrated by Jon Klassen (big fans!).
