Initially I thought this was like a food court style where there are various vendors and you pick a place to order from and find your seat. But I stand corrected. This was more set up like a restaurant, you are seated, and you order from the menu. You could also order directly from the various stands if you see something they have that's not on the menu... like fish nuggets..etc. The Fish Church was bright and beautiful. Upon walking in it feels/looks very clean. Oliver served us at the counter and he was fun to chat with. Made some recommendation on how he loves the shrimp toast. We ended up ordering the seafood platter of the day and devour that with a couple delicious glasses of white wine. Beautiful set up, must visit when in Gothenburg.

After Oslo, Norway, our next destination was Gothenburg, Sweden. We stumbled across this place by our lovely tour guide. This is an amazing decor as it is dubbed The Fish Church. Walking in, we can see there are a few seafood merchants and some restaurants. We were seated immediately and ordered 1 traditional catch of the day and another one baked fish of the day. I believe the baked fish was the haddock which came with bacon bits swimming on a bed of mash potatoes and amazing gravy sauce. The other order was for a different type of fish over a creamy pea sauce. Both these fishes were absolutely divine and fresh. We also got a herring to start and given this was our first time trying, absolutely loved it. The fish wasn't mushy at all and had a nice full bite to it. All the orders came with small salad and choice of tap water or coffee. Highly recommended.

Very nice and clean place, newly renovated and the look of this place is great. Staff is very nice and helpful, the food came out within 15 minutes of ordering and we were also served a herring, potatoes, and sour cream appetizer which was delicious. If you're here to shop they also have a lot of great options for fresh fish to purchase, and great bar choices as well. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! :)

The fish church is awesome. It recently underwent a major renovation that took four years to complete. From what I understand they had to jack the building up because it was sinking. I visited nine years ago and back then the larger portion of the building was dedicated to fish/seafood merchants. They were also a couple of restaurants. Now it is the reverse. There are two merchants and five restaurants. We picked one that focused on seafood. There were four of us. Our waitress helped us with our order. We had two seafood platters and added a half-lobster to each platter. We wanted crab claws also but our server said they were out when we initially sat down. I mentioned that I was hoping they had some but understood that everything was limited to what was freshly caught that day. With that she went and double checked, and to my happy relief they still had a few. Everything we ate was fantastic as expected!

Definitely worth the visit! They have an abundant variety of fish of course. I saw many with small containers of seafood salad and baguettes having a picnic outside. Also, some restaurants- a couple downstairs and one upstairs. I ended up eating at Restaurang Gabriel on the second level and had an excellent lunch.

My dinner: salmon, shrimp, and fish. Delicious and fresh!

I love fish markets! There are quite a lot of options here, with cooked seafood, raw seafood, seafood salads, etc. I ended up getting smoked salmon (my favorite! So tender, chewy, and fresh, and a nice smoky flavor), shrimp (seems like they were just boiled, but they were also very fresh), and marinated fish (slightly salty, but still good!). Yum! The building is also quite interestingly shaped. There aren't any places to sit inside to eat, but there are wooden tables and benches outside to enjoy a fresh seafood meal!

Worst crab ever. Cold and empty. We did.not try others. I think the.shrimp salad may be good as many local people buy it.

Best place to buy fish in Gothenburg. A couple of little eateries here too. Upstairs was quite good. I'll try the other two

Nice upscale restaurant serving local fresh seafood…read more Offers coat check upon arrival. Walking distance to most of the downtown hotels. Started with some entrees for apps - cod balls and mussels. Cod balls were meaty and tasty. The mussels were in a light white sauce. For my main, went with the buffet of seafood. The great part of this is that they bring you refills. Smoked shrimp, shrimp, crab claws and langostines (think giant crawfish or baby lobster). I didn't care for the smoked shrimp (too Smokey for me) and the regular shrimp were a little on the small side for the effort of taking off the shell. The langostine tails were full of flavor, claws were hard to get at. Highlight of the meal was the local crab claws. Reminded me of stone crab, but not a sweet. For dinner had the creams brûlée with rum and violet ice cream instead of the sorbet. The rum vanilla was tasty, the violet was too strong for me. Great restaurant, great service, will return on my next trip.

The atmosphere is undoubtedly with its cozy Swedish design charms: sophisticated, delicate details, modern, and old world. I don't know how else to describe it. The host graciously ordered for us and recommended the blini with löj caviar as the starter. It's a perfect bite of creaminess (from blini) and crispness of the löj caviar mixed with the sour cream, chives, shallots, and dill. Next came the seafood platter with lobsters, crawfishes, mussels, and Swedish shrimps. Everything on the plate were cooked simple and the way it is suppose to taste, fresh and sweet. For the main course turbot with fresh beets and soft poached egg over fresh wasabi roots were divine (as if I had any more stomach space)!! The turbot was surprisingly thick and meaty, fresh beets had an unforgettable crisp clean finish, and when I was expecting the running yolk of a poach egg to spread into the wasabi root, the yolk instead was creamy soft that together with the fresh wasabi roots were perfectly harmonized. Just when I thought the meal was over, came more Swedish (and European) hospitality to finish the meal with cheese plate, coffee or tea. I wish I knew more about cheese to tell you the experience. The meal was so wonderful that I have to write about it; however, before I end, I must tell you about the drinking culture too :) The evening started with a glass of Champagne and another. With the starter, we toasted to glass of schnapps with the blini and löj caviar. Move to a bottle of Bourgogne Chardonnay (oaky flavor...tres interesting) since we were eating the turbot. Later came 3 more glasses of wine to pair with cheese plate, and we finished with Berta grappa and tea but not before bottomless Champagne throughout the meal. Toast to the host , this was an unforgettable meal!!

However, after…read morereading reviews and speaking to the locals, I settled on this place for dinner one night- and I am so glad I did! It was a bit of a trek from my hotel, but an enjoyable walk nonetheless. Upon arriving, the place was busy, but we managed to snag a table outside. Although the inside looked very cozy, I was happy to sit out in the cool evening air. We were given menus, and our server told us the specials. We ordered beers for now, but planned on ordering wine with dinner. Asking the server for his recommendations, we decided to share the Garlic Gratinated Langoustines. For mains, I ordered the Fish au Gratin, as he said they were known for the dish, and my dining partner ordered the Catch of the Day, Cod Loin. We received our beers and then ordered a nice bottle of white to be served with dinner. They brought the langoustines, and they were absolutely incredible! Fresh and large, and tasty! We were also brought some yummy bread and butter. Our mains arrived and boy, was he right- the Fish au Gratin was absolutely delicious, the sauce creamy and not overwhelming the fish. The wine paired perfectly, and we enjoyed our dinners immensely. We ordered one dessert to share, as well as a glass of port wine. The dessert was odd; it had a cucumber taste to it, not a fan, but hey, it's nice to try new things. Overall, this was one of my favorite meals in Gothenburg, the restaurant was great as was the old town neighborhood of Haga. Highly recommended!

It looked just like any of the typical Vietnamese places back in San Diego (where I'm from). Even the menu was similar. I ordered beef and noodles. When the food came out, I didn't immediately notice anything wrong with it. But as I began to eat the meat, I started to realize that it felt... weird (for lack of better word). (Imagine eating the chicken nugget goop before it's turned into chicken nuggets.) I realize it's probably my fault for ignoring that, and eating the food anyways. Being away from home, my only excuse is probably that I missed real Vietnamese food too much. And boy, did I regret it about an hour later. Me and my friend were still at the mall when it hit me. I'll let you guess what "it" was. I was in and out of the upstairs bathroom about 5 times, each time taking between 20-30 minutes. And each time I thought I was done, I would just turn around at the entrance for more. The poor bathroom attendant had no idea what was going on with me, but decided to stay out of my business (lol). Anyways, the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1, is because it's located next to a pretty bomb Asian food market. So in short, don't come here, and if you do, don't order a dish with meat.
