Herzstück des Kunstwerks Carlshütte ist die seit 1999 in den Sommermonaten stattfindende NordArt, mit rund 250 ausgewählten Künstlern aus aller Welt. Die NordArt gehört zu den größten Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Kunst in Europa und wird von Kurator und Künstler Wolfgang Gramm als Gesamtkunstwerk jährlich neu konzipiert. Die NordArt bespielt eine Kulisse, die ihresgleichen sucht. Dazu gehören die gewaltigen Hallenschiffe der historischen Eisengießerei mit ihren 22.000 Quadratmetern Grundfläche und ein 80.000 Quadratmeter großes Skulpturenpark.
