We are so fortunate to have a local, non-"box" commercial hardware store near us…read more.. It is the last of its kind in Land Park and we try to support it anyway we can! The staff are personable and helpful and it carry's many smaller items (like unique screws, nuts and fasteners) in small or singular quantities so you don't have to buy a "lifetime supply" for one project like you would have to at a Lowes or Home Depot!

It's my hardware store. I've found the Goldilocks of hardware stores. JUST RIGHT. Pocket Ace- just,…read moreno. Emigh- across town, ghetto 'hood but not ghetto prices. East Sacramento- that closed, now it's a plant store. Who needs a hammer when you can have a succulent? Elk Grove: $$$, plus being asked if I need help multiple times is scary (five times in five minutes, rule of thumb). Newbert's: yes, this was the best but it's been closed for decades and is probably a cannabis dispensary now. Archie's: also closed. Don't get me started. Why: Selection: This store has pretty damn much anything you could need, with limits. Kitchen, hardware, tools, electrical, garden, paint, nuts, bolts, chemicals. It's not a warehouse, it's a STORE. So calm down if you don't have every option, you're going to get in the ballpark. This fall I found a great manure fork here (no I don't live in Iowa but it's a great garden tool and mine got "lost" in my last move). PS, the big orange didn't even have one. Price: I was pricing Weber bbqs this summer and the units here were 10% less than pocket ace or Elk Grove. That got my attention. I recently got a great shovel for $16.99 on sale. Yes, a sale. You will have a range of options and usually there is a cheap(Er) option than at other stores, and better made. Recently I was pricing shovels at Home Depot and their cheaply made unforged (but costly) shovels couldn't match the shovel I bought at Hollywood. Help: someone can help you if you ask but you can browse without feeling like you are being stalked. Oddities: my last time here while at check out a customer came in cradling a duck and said out loud "I have a duck that needs repair." No one was fazed. The duck, alas, was a decoy but quite convincing. Need I say more?

Adj: Knowledgeable…read more This is a locally operated Ace Hardware store, I believe it is a franchise. The owners are helpful if you have questions about a home improvement or repair issues and don't know how to go about trying a solution to the problem, or how to use a tool, or even what something you're looking for is because you've never heard of it, let alone seen one, LOL. I haven't come in for those yet, but sometimes I'd find an answer on Google, but the real-life application and execution of that fix to the problem doesn't work out very well, and I'm stuck. This is where Greenhaven Hardware as a smaller, mom-and-pop outfit would come in. At a big box store it might be hard to flag down someone to ask a question at all. But here at Greenhaven Hardware, there's always someone asking if you need help. We came in once to get some plants and had some questions and they gave us some good advice and our plants are thriving now. They also seasonally have vegetable seedlings for sale if your thumb isn't the greenest (that would be me!) and don't want to attempt to grow from seeds yourself. Sometimes they would also clearance out seasonal items because their store has limited space compared to a big-box, so you can also find some bargains if your timing just happens to find you catching some good deals. I don't count on that at Ace, but it's nice to support local even if their prices are slightly higher (sometimes quite a bit higher) because we can get excellent customer service w/sage advice for tricky home repair situations. Overall, I'm thankful we have a locally owned and operated hardware store still in our neighborhood and it's a great thing to have when experience and knowledge is what you're looking for to tackle more complex home maintenance or repair scenarios. Thank you Greenhaven Hardware!

They sometimes have varieties that aren't in the big box stores. Today was no exception. I selected some rare succulents and proceeded to the outdoor checkstand to pay. That is where things went downhill. This usually open checkstand had a note stating it was closed and to pay inside. So back inside I went. After a short wait I approached the check stand and after the young man rang my purchases he handed me the receipt. I said well I need to pay you. And as I unzipped my RFID-shielded wallet to obtain my debit card the young male cashier said, "oh it already took your payment" (and he pointed to the "tap here" feature on the credit/debit card machine on the counter). I was flabbergasted! So after looking at the receipt I saw that the machine had charged a credit card that was located several cards deep inside my wallet in my crossbody bag that I was wearing at the time. I asked him to refund that and place the items on a debit card instead. Wow. After a brief discussion, both he and his "Lead" admitted that machine is super sensitive so my recommendations are to the consumer be careful when shopping here, and to ACE replace the machine or post a warning to customers. Lastly, the attitude of the Lead was a bit condescending - loud, and restating the obvious. And the cashier was aloof - detached and not listening.

BEWARE - Poor Quality Compost and Poor Customer Service…read more On Saturday, July 26, my husband purchased half a yard of "humus blend" compost from the Davis Ace rock yard. When he got home, I immediately noticed several large rocks, glass shards, and bits of plastic mixed in. I called the store right away and was told there had been previous complaints, but they thought this was a new delivery. The store manager apologized and said we could return the compost for a full refund. When we returned it, the yard staff were kind and helpful in removing it from our truck. However, when I went inside to process the refund, the rock yard manager was curt -- both to us and to the associate handling the return. When I explained why we were returning the product, his only response was that it was our responsibility to inspect the compost before purchase. This was shocking and completely inappropriate. A customer buying a "humus blend" should not have to sift through it on-site to make sure it doesn't contain glass and debris. I followed up with an email and a letter to the store owner, Mark Schulein, but received no response. Needless to say, we will be purchasing our landscape products elsewhere. I was willing to write this off as a one-time mistake, but the manager's dismissive attitude and lack of accountability have made me lose trust in the quality and integrity of Davis Ace Hardware.

We are ready to undertake a kitchen remodel. This is our second day on the journey. Last week we…read morewent to look at model kitchens at IKEA and today it was a trip to Lowes. Sam in their kitchen remodel department was very helpful. He was very knowledgeable about where to start and the procedures. He suggested we start with the cabinent before the countertops. I also learned that they are two differnt contracts. You don't do them together, which is confusing for me as don't you want the work people to coordinate so all the work gets done at the same time. We learned that they don't actually come to your house to measure for your kitchen cabinent. What if you measure wrong? We learned that you need to get permits before dong your own kitchen and that's the homeowners responsibility. We learned that painted Cabinets are more expensive then stained. Though stained means you'll be using real wood. Sam prefers natural stone due to its longevity. We're not sure how that would look with our fake wood/lament floors. Sam is referring to Natural as Granite or Quartzite. From looking at the chart it seems that Delton and Porcelain is are better when it comes to stain resistant and scratch resistant and heat resistant. I also like the lass countertops they had at Ikea which they don't offer At Lowes. From the sounds of it it's going to take around 2 months of life without a working kitchen for us. That doesn't sound good. That's a lot of going out to eat. Though if we do it this summer the good thing is we'll be eating lots of salads and sandwiches anyway due to the hot weather. And cold cereal for breakfast. It also sounds like we need to buy everything ourselves versus going through a contractor to ensure we are the holders of the warrantee. Apparently who ever pays for it is the holder. Thant's news to me. There is an additional 10 year warrantee you can buy for the countertops that's around $400. That includes any accidents by the buyer or malfunctions in the workmanship. He said it's worth it. Follow us on our journey.

I will never ever buy an appliance from Lowes again. They have made it so hard to deal with them…read more I have rentals in Nevada. (thats cuz they don't have insane landlord rules like Cal does). I used to be able to go into Lowes in Modesto, sit down with someone and order for either Reno or Vegas. Not anymore. I have to do it online. I have in my hand the email ad I got from Lowes saying if I bought now I'd get free delivery, haul away, install parts and basic install. Those things total about $450 on a dishwasher and stove. When I tried to order online I was not offered free anything. When I called customer service Sunday 4/26 they said "no such thing". So it was added to my bill. I made the order by phone . They wanted to deliver the next day. Without being able to speak to my tenant I couldn't do that so I put the delivery 2 weeks out. Without my knowledge or consent they sent me an email saying they would deliver on April 30. If I want to cancel its a TWENTY dollar cancellation charge even though they haven't done one damn thing yet. For a total of almost $500 its almost worth it to take a $33 flight to Vegas on Allegiant, rent a car, go to some independent appliance places, and come back home that night.
