This is great hotel. Seems to be near everything. Has a Starbucks connected to the lobby. Some great restaurants are really close walking distance. The place is clean. Their staff is friendly. The water pressure is the shower is good. I didn't have the best view but they do have better views. Couldn't access my balcony. And they have older box type TV. Over all a great value. I travel to Guadalajara twice a year and had the opportunity to experience various moderate to high-end hotels during my visits. El Fenix hotel is a charming 3 start hotel that is over 100 years old in downtown Guadalajara. This hotel has a great location and is situated a couple of blocks from the Cathedral and various museums. The hotel is not fancy by any means, but it works well if you are on a budget and need to be in downtown Guadalajara. The hotel is clean and the staff is very attentive and helpful. I suggest that you skip the hotel's continental breakfast and head to one of the many great restaurants in the area. Our room had a great view of the Cathedral and was very clean. From the 11th and 12th floors you can have the best view of the city and the Cathedral. Don't expect a mini-fridge, bathtub, or safe-box in your room, but nevertheless, the location and staff makes it a great place to stay. This hotel is the best I have been in Guadalajara. My husband and I have been visiting Guadalajara for almost 5 years. Sometimes once or twice a year for recreation and business purposes. We have stayed in hotels like "El Tapatio" (4 nights), "La Quinta Real" (2 nights), "El Hotel Frances" (4 nights), and we keep coming back to "Fénix Hotel"! The customer service is outstanding. Hotel Reservation Manager Claudia Carrillo goes above and beyond for her guests! First time my Husband brought me to Guadalajara, he chose this hotel because of their amazing views of the Cathedral, he wanted to surprise me by getting me roses, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, he didn't know how to go about doing that. He called the hotel and they immediately had him speaking to Reservation Manager Claudia Carrillo, she made all my Husbands' request posible, and even arranged rose petals in heart shape on the bed. I was so happy when I arrived. Since then we have been loyal and happy guests. The view in the rooms are incredible and breathtaking. The breakfast buffet included in the reservation is soooo good!! I stayed there once a few years back and will never return. The front desk staff were extremely rude! There are some pluses. The hotel is kept very clean and the cleaning ladies are very nice and accommodating. The location is great because it's in the heart of downtown, there are plenty of restaurants, a Starbucks and shopping nearby. Their nightly rate was very low compared to other budget hotels in the area. The bed was hard as a rock with a concrete base instead of a spring base. If you are looking for a bargain, you might be satisfied at the Fenix hotel. However, I cannot get past being disrespected by people who are supposed to be in the "hospitality" business. read more
