Edgar gave me Tara's card, but just to be sure, I asked Johannes, the manager of Sweet & Sour at the Sheraton Westpark where I could find Slyrs, and he also pointed me without a second thought to Tara. Okay - I know when it's time to shut up and just take good advice. I took a stroll from the Odeonplatz U-Bahn through the Rindermarkt and found this grey-stoned little corner shop, only to open the door to richly-lit wooden shelves stocked with an amazing selection of amber liquors. Tara has just about everything you could look for in the wonderful world of whiskey, including a wall of Glenmorangie dating back to the early 1970s! So - I'm after a bottle of Slyrs, and the gentleman running the place is happy to guide me along the entire lineup, seemingly deeply knowledgeable in his craft and trying to guide me to what my taste profile would appreciate most. As I'm checking out, I see a wall of jams behind the counter. Wait, what? Whiskey is whiskey...what are sweets doing here? Oh...they're made WITH Slyrs whiskey? Sure - I'll take an apricot one. 4 days later, as I write this, I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy the entire display case out. Yeah...it's that good. Germany, and München in particular, may not be the first place you think of when you're of a mind to find good whiskey. That's not surprising, because their beer is among the best in the world, but also because German whiskey is good enough that they're not exporting, preferring to focus on quality and serving the burgeoning local market. Stop by here - you may wind up finding a reason beyond the beer halls to love German adult beverages.

This was a terrific wine bar that we found through Rick Steve's guidebook, even if the address was…read morewrong. The wine is expensive, but there is little that is not expensive on the Euro. We generally split the Malbec for 25 Euros. We also liked the prosciutto. This place could also be called a prosciutto bar that serves wine. They will wrap it around breadsticks, and both times we got those (4) they were free. Not sure if that's an off-menu free app, or if they forgot both times.

From California to Spain - every bottle of wine I got here were amazing. The servers are very knowledgeable and super helpful and let you try a variety of wines before you settle on the one. Food is good, nothing out of this world, but a good combination with the wine. The place is tiny, probably seats about 30, quiet and full of buzzing conversations.
