I've booked this studio twice ( same flower room ) I look forward to using all the rooms eventually. They are easy to book with reschedule and always ( politely) answer my phone calls for help or clarification. I personally didn't rely on much of the equipment provided but, I did enjoy messing around with the on hand studio lighting. being able to mess around and work with much more expensive studio equipment than I own, is great. I love the natural lighting the building gets as well. On the down side : I do feel like some of the props and supplies are in desperate need to be updated or replaced. A couch we had in our studio requires a lot of post editing to not look like it was taken off the street with as much wear and tear as it has. Small price to pay that makes massive charges for models and photographers. read more

I got the opportunity at the end of July to use 1 of the rooms to take some pictures. The studio is in a sketchy neighborhood and there is metered parking out front or lot parking across the street by McDonalds $8 for the day. The studio has a buzzer to push for someone to unlock the door and let you in. Staff is friendly but they do have other responsibilities and are not always there to let you in right away. The staging area was incredibly hot and the air conditioning was not working and there is a flight of stairs to climb to get up the stages/rooms, and that is incredibly difficult then you have a ton of gear and that is why I gave it 4 stars. FD ha always been a consistently amazing experience over my 6+ years of shooting client work here. Everything you need at your fingertips and knowledgeable staff to help out without condescension. However, on my 20th or so shoot here, no manager has come close to how wonderful Aaron was tonight. He was so so welcoming to my crew and talent, had all of our needs set up in advance, and was so hospitable and went the extra mile to give us extras of all our equipment and hand delivered it inside the studio. I came here to do headshots, it was horrible. They said there would be a backdrop set up- there wasn't. as a result, we had to spend a bunch of time moving crap around and back into place so we had a background to shoot with. We ended up having to use this wooden wall with the details in it that created shadows. The flashes that they had were awesome not good and due to that and the shadows from the shitty background, we had to work so hard and even then the shots turned out pretty horrible. Additionally, we had to stay an extra 15 minutes to put all the shit back into place because of how long it took for us to get photos in such horrible conditions. they charge me an extra $47 on top of the $47 I already spent. I would not recommend this place, they are very unprofessional and do not deliver on what they say they do . They also refused to give me a refund for the extra $47 they charged . I would've been better taking photos literally anywhere else just a room with a background would've been immensely better and i'd be about hundred bucks richer. read more

It was my first time shooting at FD Studio Hill and it was amazing! Definitely book early if you want to shoot here because weekend slots goes fast. We weren't sure about Hill 1 but it turns out amazing! We had 2 hours slot here and the natural lights from the West facing window is just aesthetic! There was a large mirror with bright lights all around, couple of chairs that looks fantastic next to the windows, and also some back drops you can move around. Us girls totally loved the bed with white mesh as well. There's a changing room corner and the 2 hours went by super quickly with 3 models and 4 photographers. Next we all moved on to the rain-room and we had a 3 hours slot. We made use of EVERY minute there! Granted, the water heater broke that day, and the water was freezing! But we made the most of it and got all these great shots! Please go check out on IG @kitsunekuma, @amynapkins, @kajicosplays, and @jackofalltradesx11 to see all the beautiful shots and videos! There's a changing room in the rain room as well and also a big mirror. I would also suggest bringing flip-flops for the rain-room since the floor will be wet. We parked at metered parking on the street and had to moved our car after 4 hours. There's a McD across the street if you need a bite or snacks. They do require to hold your ID while you're renting the rooms. Will be back in this studio soon! read more

So I booked this studio couple of days in advance, expecting it to still be the same as I've used it in the past. I wasn't able to utilise this side of the studio because I was surprised to see it's no longer a matted floor but SAND?! Same thing with the haystacks. There was no prior notice to this change whether it's through the website studio photos nor an announcement on social media. ALSO all the electrical sockets and lights on the makeup station DOESNT WORK?! Like come on FD, I have no problem paying your $10 increase in fees but PLEASE GET YOUR BEARINGS TOGETHER. I already have problems over at MAIN Stage with equipment not connecting via Bluetooth properly and backdrops dropping by themselves cause they couldn't hold properly. It was a hot mess. I typically shoot at the FD in NYC and Brooklyn. Have done so for years. Never an issue. I decided to try out their LA Hill studio while in town and this is not the FD Studio I am used to. I decided to book the Hill 7 Rain Room a couple weeks before my trip. I put in the request and the reservation was confirmed. I was sent the link to pay. Since I have used FD for years my payment info was already saved. I tried to submit it many times and the submit button was greyed out. The website said the captcha was broken. I tried on various browsers, on my mac, iPhone, and nothing worked. So I called the studio to get this paid and locked in. I just want to preface that I had many many calls with this studio over so many simple issues. I called and told them the issue. They said it was a tech issue with the website and they needed to let their IT team know. That I could pay via cash app or paypal. I told her paypal would be great. She told me to use their email address to send the money. I did it and showed her the confirmation. She said we are set. Great. I should receive a confirmation email shortly. Just like I do in NYC. But nothing. Two days goes by and I check paypal and see the money has not been claimed. That's weird. This time I email. They're email on their website and tell them about the tech issue and no confirmation emails. No response. So I call back again and speak to someone else. She tells me the info that the other girl told me was wrong. Cancel that payment and send to their account. Look for their logo and username. Found it. Cancelled old payment and sent new one. I told her to stay on the phone until it comes through and it is confirmed. She says it has been. They accept the money and she notes the account. I told her I needed a confirmation email. She said it was coming. No email. Another model reached out to me to shoot so I needed to extend my studio time by one hour. I had my assistant call and the guy who answered this time said he had no idea how to take payments. He would just expand the reservation and we can pay when we arrive. Yet again no confirmation email. I checked the website and show my reservation was now from 9-12. I guess thats a win. The day of the shoot my time starts at 9am. I get there at 8:50am. There is a model standing outside. She said no one is here and she can't get in. A girl comes up and says she's the worker and that's why no one was responding. She opens the door and lets us in. She confirms my reservation and studio. We are all set. I shoot but only one model shows. So I clean up the studio and leave at 11am. I stop by the front desk to check out and let them know about the extra hour and not using it. I don't mind paying but trying to let them know. No one is at the desk. I wait around and finally leave. A few hours later I get a call. Mind you I am on vacation and about to walk to dinner with a friend. The studio calls and tells me I need to pay for my time. I ask her what is she talking about. She said that I never paid anything. I told her I paid you multiple times. I run her through the complete timeline. She is like wow! This is crazy. I am a photographer too and I would be upset. She said her supervisor said I did not pay anything. I sent her the screenshots and she even pulled the notes on my booking where the staff even said I paid. So I told her this is crazy. She told me to cancel the payment to the account where they already accepted the money and yet again send the payment again to yet another account. I told her no. You already accepted the money. I can't cancel a completed payment. But I did tell her I would file a dispute to show I paid and draw their attention to it. So I did it wheel we were on the phone. A few minutes later I get an email and call from them saying they magically found the payment and if I would kindly remove the dispute since they found they money they said I did not pay. I removed the dispute. They then said they would be charging my card for the extra hour. Even after all the hell they put me through, wasted time and money, and to top it off I told them I did not even use the hour. They ghosted me. So yeah this place is a naw. The studio was chill and a great spot but the management is a mess and making a claim someone did not pay you at all when they tried multiple times to pay you and even have notes in your system showing it was paid it wild. read more

I was in studio hill 4 and I definitely loved the lighting, the space that was available, the props and the set up. However I wish that I would have known earlier only six people were allowed in the studio when I was originally quoted at 10 then to 8 then to 6 as I arrived. Also the red light on the neon wall didn't work when I was shooting there so I was unable to use that part of the room. read more

I had an awesome experience working with Victoria at the Hill studio 1!! I had to reserve while en route from Lake Powell Arizona!! A 9 hour drive! I was pressed for time and Victoria was great helping me through the reservation and payment...I had some issues of forgetting I had changed my CC billing address and she tried her best to help until I finally figured out that was the problem! I booked The Pink Room! Please know this studio is atrocious!!!! The piano is ruined. The paint is chipped beyond usable. The walls are DIRTY and DENTED ! There was not one space one the wall I could use with out having to edit it. Ended up having to get a backdrop put up which took 30 minutes. read more

This really exceeded my expectations for a photo studio and I can't wait to come back to shoot some more. Pros: 1. Hill 1 looked plain on the website but it was fantastic to shoot in. Tons of natural light through these big windows that come out nice in photos. It was big enough that we had 3 different photo shoots going on at the same time in different parts of the room. 2. Hill 7 was a rain room where all the walls are black, there is a window that you can cover, and the main rain feature works out better than I expected. The fan in the window has a great industrial vibe that translates well on film. 3. Each room has various lighting equipment you can use (and extension cords), as well as a reflector, backdrops, even a ladder. 4. Each room has a well-lit make-up mirror and an area where models can change behind a curtain. 5. Many rooms to choose from - can't wait to try them all! 6. Lots of people going in and out - it felt safe and vibrant with lots of creative energy all around. 7. Not only did we start each room on time, we were allowed to enter the room and set-up early to maximize our time slot if nobody was in there. 8. The attendant was friendly and helpful. 9. The overall experience for the photographers and models was positive and much better than I expected, and much better than other studios I've been at. 10. I'm very happy with all the photos I took that day. Everything just worked and I'm very satisfied with all the resulting images! Cons: 1. No dedicated parking. However, there are some meters nearby, or a lot by McD if you pay the attendant. There are also other lots nearby. 2. Not exactly the best part of town, but I guess that's why the rental fees can be lower. 3. You have to climb a tall set of stairs from the main door, so if you have a lot of equipment, you're going to get some exercise ferrying it up and down. 4. On the day we went, the water heater for the rain room was not working, so the water was cold. 5. On the day we went, the drinking water dispenser was empty. read more

I reserved 2 hours in the Hill 7 stage which is the "rain room." The studio is equipped with a changing area, a few strobes, light stands, and LEDs. You have the option of checking out a strobe trigger. All of the stages are located in the same building but each studio is located in its own individual room with plenty of privacy. Studio 1 is a good soft look studio. I've done a photo shoot at Studio 3 and Love the mirrors they placed in there. Studio 7 is going to be amazing with the rain room and can't wait to be able to see the finished results. The crew helping also including Cedric, Khadeen, and Manny have been super chill, helpful and informative on all the studios. They were able to walk me through each studio to find the needs I needed for the type of shoot I was doing. I have used FD Studios before but this was my first time at the Hill Stages and it has become my favorite. I used Hill stage 1. Great natural lighting. The Wooden bed is amazing. I had such a great experience. The girl working that Saturday was so helpful. I think her name was Jackie. She made sure I had a beauty dish and she brought me a c-stand arm.
