It is…read morelocated on the side of the Florida Purchasing Agency just after you cross the Intracoastal Waterway. The mural perfectly captures the motto of the town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea: "Relax...you're here." It was created by lead artist Lori Pratico along with the Business for the Arts of Broward's Mural Mentorship program. Pratico is a Fort Lauderdale-based, self-taught artist and muralist. She has been recognized for her nationwide "Girl Noticed" project, which empowers women and girls through public art. Her career has spanned over 35 years, with numerous murals, portraits, and art installations created to inspire and connect communities. This mural was unveiled in October 2025. The mural feels like an invitation to enjoy all that Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has to offer, quaint Florida charm and beachside relaxation. It is both a photo backdrop and a vibe.

Noticed a sign at the front of the DeBilzan Gallery that says, "All You Need Is Love And A Whole…read moreLotta Cash". So thought this was one of those crazy overpriced art galleries and took a peek inside. The employee or owner was outside on her phone so we took a self guided tour of the exhibits which were mainly wall art and purses by an unknown artist to me named Debilzan. The assuming original art work was colorful and intriguing, one priced high at $11k, but the vibrant purses were shockingly only $700.00. So not sure if the purses were cheap versions of originals with cool art work by DeBilzan painted on them.

The Rosenbaum Contemporary has a large private parking lot. The building is a large…read morewarehouse-looking building. There are two entrances opposite one another: one is for the Rosenbaum and the other is for RFA Decor (and something else which I forget). I'm so glad I saw an event listing on the Cultural Council website for the last show at the Rosenbaum Contemporary: Two Generations Roberto Matta and Frederica Matta. This show paired father and daughter, whose artwork had only been exhibited together one other time, over 20 years ago, in their country of Chile. I wish I had seen the listing earlier so that I could share the art show with friends... because it was excellent! Thanks a million to the mega awesome Gabriel who jumped up from his lunch break to enthusiastically give my family and I a private tour. He was passionate, informative and completely dedicated to the artists and the works. I was nearly overwhelmed by all the additional interpretations, background stories and explanations that Gabriel shared, not only about each piece but about the lives of the artists themselves, their intentions and their relationship. I felt so special and privileged to see the artworks in such a heightened, enhanced way; I still have many of the images seared into my brain. Thanks you, Gabriel! When I first walked up to the building, I found both entrances to the Contemporary blocked by metal chains with signs directing me to the 'other entrance.' I found this frustrating and vague, but I complied and walked a few steps to the adjoining entrance to RFA Decor. Unfortunately, when I entered, the woman who came up to help me told me that the show was probably closed for the lunch hour. I was pretty upset, as I had checked both Yelp and the homepage to make sure that the Rosenbaum would be open when we were able to finally make it there. It wasn't closed though; the only dedicated Contemporary employee was taking his lunch break and letting potential visitors find their way through from next door. My experience rapidly went from a 1 to a 5.

This beautiful art piece was designed to connect the cultural roots of Mexico to Florida through woven thread. Color of Our Roots was created by Cielo Tejido, a Mexican art collective formed to preserve and share traditional textile practices through vibrant, handwoven installations. It was founded by Damiana Lorena Ron Siordia, who was born in Nayarit in 1961. She was a veterinarian and mother of three children. In 2013, after her husband passed away, she discovered textile art as a way to heal from her grief. She began sharing weaving with her mother, and together they started covering trees in their hometown of Etzatlán in crochet. In 2014, they invited more women to join, and the project became Cielo Tejido. Today, the collective consists of 250 women artists of all ages who promote community, heritage, and collaboration by bringing ancestral techniques into public spaces in a contemporary way. This is the first time I have seen the work of Cielo Tejido in person, and I was impressed. For this installation, they wove around the tree to create a colorful covering in its honor. By filling the space with color, they encourage people to stop and share the experience. This is such a fun art piece to photograph. As you get closer, you can see more detail in the work. Cielo Tejido also created another woven exhibit for Giralda Plaza in Coral Gables for the summer, which I look forward to visiting.

This year was the 6th International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium. The first one took place in…read more2013 when the City of Boynton Beach created a free, public art exhibit dedicated to contemporary artists creating kinetic art. The Kinetic Biennial takes place in the historic 1927 Arts and Cultural Center, around the building, on the lawn in front of City Hall and along the streets of Boynton Beach. The Biennial seeks to show how art and technology are connected with art installations that move. The Kinetic Biennial has art installations, artist and designer talks, student displays, turbine demonstrations, light projections, and choreographed motion performances with community volunteers. Live music, food trucks, artist booths, and other activities are also part of the event. I loved all of the fascinating art especially the Sisyphus table, a fine layer of sand with a two motor robot called the Sisbot that controls a metal ball along a preprogrammed track through sand that creates a beautiful pattern. I also enjoyed the Twirling Blooms, a candy colored installation of metal flowers spun by the wind in front of the Cultural Arts Center. One of my favorite installations was called Move Fast and Break Things. It's a kinetic rock throw. They made you sign a release before you could throw the rocks. It was very therapeutic watching them dent the sheet metal wall. Although the Kinetic Biennial is over for this year you can still find a number of permanent public pieces around Boynton Beach that the city has purchased for their collection.

This year, it was called the 2023 International Kinetic Art Biennial Boynton Beach. This show had indoor/outdoor art installations, some interactive. The area also has 34 sculptures and murals to visit anytime. Kinetic Art is art that has movement using various energy resources. Creativity extends farther than a canvas and usually 3 dimensional. South Florida has many art forms to offer and this is one of my local favorites.

She instructed me in brush techniques, did hands on for light strokes, explained about blending the colors & make suggest for my first selection of picture.
