While driving through Tuscany, we happened upon Fattoria di Montechiari and are so glad we did. Although the family-run winery was fully booked, they kindly accommodated us. The wines were wonderful, and the views were stunning. We enjoyed some tasty snacks and appreciated the warm, patient service from everyone there. What a surprise! -- We are from the wine country in Sonoma, California and have never been treated to a tasting like this. We called in the morning and we were invited for a tasting and small plates at 11:30. We were greeted at the gate by the beautiful Catherine and the elegant Moreno. After a tour of the estate and the wine making operation, we sat in their tasting room. We began with an extraordinary champagne, followed by a chardonnay, a sangiovese , a merlot and a cabernet sauvignon. Each course was accompanied by lovely food pairings with vegetables from the garden and their house olive oil. We spent 3 hours eating and drinking in a perfect hilltop setting.
