Gig right up the street; wandered over to Fat MO's. Looks like a classic local spot on the outside. Reminds me of the burger spot your Uncle opened after complaining about Checker's being terrible and that he can do better than them. The decor and paint looks like it hasn't been updated since the 90s, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't care what the building looks like; ill eat in a gulag if the food is banging enough. I got the double Mo combo with seasoned fries. Everything was fresh off the fryer / grill. This is my first visit to this specific location of Fat Mo's. It was about 45 minutes before closing and there was a long line. About 15 minutes in, a staff member came outside to tell us that they weren't taking any orders anymore to close up on time. Then, a cook came out and said he'd only take cash orders because they had already shut down the credit card machine. I had cash on me and was able to get my order in. This is a quality burger shack. Doesn't look like much, but provides a quality cheap huge burger! You have to time it right, because they make everything to order. I ordered two number 4. Double cheeseburger combos, and it took about 10 minutes. Not too bad, but when the like builds up it could take a while. The burgers were MASSIVE and juicy! I couldn't finish it. All the toppings were generous and the cheese was nice and melty. Everything remained super hot on my 10 minute drive home, and the fries stayed crispy! We will be back! My friend ordered a burger (with everything on it, because duhh) which came with fries and a drink. The chocolate malt was amazing, it was the perfect thickness and tasted great. Opening packaging to find a disappointing substitution sucks as a kid on Christmas morning and it sucks as an adult on a chilly Thursday night. Even loaded up with toppings, we both knew (me and the sandwich) the same shame we shared. This and some fries ran me $8 and change. For what I received, I don't think the value was there. Fat Mo's is the absolute king of sloppy drive-through burgers. Certainly nothing special, but they're quick and easy, and their combos are very cheap. This Fat Mo's happens to be on a slightly sketchy area of Gallatin Pike, but it isn't a dine-in joint so you only have to worry about the creepy vibes issuing forth from the area for a matter of minutes. Their spicy fries are greasy and delicious, and their burgers are huge and made-to-order. I like the Big Mo combo, which comes with a dinner-plate-sized burger and a half-gallon soda for just over $6. Most people, however, go for the Little Mo, the portions of which are perfectly reasonable. Fat Mo's also has a decent roast beef & mushroom sandwich as well as some other run-of-the-mill items. While they're all pretty tasty, none of them are exactly healthy, so I like to hit this place up on a late night when I've missed dinner hours at classier joints. First 2 times I ate here I thought their Lil Mo burger with seasoned fries was delish. A few months ago, I had a mediocre meal so thought it was an "off day.". After drinking several glasses of wine, my tummy started to grumble and yearn for a burger. As many of you know, I am a happy vegan but when it's late, finding a tasty veggie burger option can be tough. I had heard from yelpers that Fat Mo's offered up a solid choice but I regretfully judged this book by it's cover and not so seductive moniker and avoided the place. However, I gave in last night and was very pleasantly surprised by the delicious offerings here. A piece of my heart has been given to the tasty season fries that were the perfect blend of crispiness and flavor. WOW, they were fantastic and just might be some of the best fries that I have had the pleasure of inhaling in a long time. The veggie burger was HUGE and full of flavor and I realize that I have to be careful not to indulge too often! We literally were able to split the burger and fries amongst two people and still felt satisfied with the meal. We added tea to our combo and for around $7, you get a fabulous veg-friendly fast food experience. The owner hung out of the drive-thru window himself and was very friendly. Sunday morning, I get a text message that I am to deliver two, count them two cheeseburgers to some extremely hung over women in Madison. This mission's difficulty might seem low, however as I'm a vegetarian and every restaurant I know of between my house and Madison that would have cheeseburgers of sufficient grease to soak up hangover juice has decided to close on Sundays (I'm looking at you Mixed Grill Cafe) I go through a list of various burger joints and this one comes up as open. I GPSed it, was getting into sketchier and sketchier area, and finally found this place and thought it was closed but pulled into the lot anyway. It was not closed, I just couldn't see the cars on the other side of the place. I had 0 expectations of getting myself anything, but they had a veggie burger so I went with it. As I sat waiting for them to cook my food I watched a 17-foot u-haul pull across the street to a can recycling station where you get 30 cents a pound (I believe was the rate) and start unloading 60 gallon trash bags of cans into this thing. It was an interesting site. 3 boxes of food and fries were given to me, I think the total was around $17, the weight on the boxes was pretty darn heavy. I put those in my passenger seat's foot area, headed down the road, hit a bump and lost a load of fries immediately. Note for future people, their boxes do not stack well. No biggie. Delivered greasy goods and sat down to my veggie burger. Fries were just about perfect. I think they might have been perfect 15 minutes before when I got them, but I do not know. Veggie burger, it was alright.. not the greatest in the world, but man, it was a lot of food. It crumbled to pieces while eating it and had to be finished with a fork. I'm told the cheeseburgers were excellent. It looked like there was enough there to feed a couple of people. Anyway, the place looks closed, sketchy, but it's not and the people were nice as I had no time to study the menu. When asked about several details of the preparation of the cheeseburgers, I was simply able to state "this is for two hungover chicks, inject it with grease, and beyond that do whatever needs to be done" It was cool... I pass it all the time on my way to the Inglewood Kroger, but always figured it for a greasy hole-in-the-wall joint. It *is* just that, but it's dang delicious! I scarfed down the homemade veggie burger which was practically the size of my head and infinitely better than anything I could get frozen from Morning Star or Boca. I consider myself lucky, Fat Mo's is pretty damn good and it is a Nashville original. Like they say it is what burger were before fast food. I love the burgers, the spicy fries, hell I even like the corn dog and that is nothing but a sodium bomb on a stick. Wait I'm not done. I love the fact that they cannibalize old restaurants like hermit crabs. I love the fact that it takes them time to make your order because it wasn't just sitting under a lamp. I love the fact that they have a burger that could potentially kill you on their menu (the fat mos super deluxe, all 27 ounces of it.)
