The Memphis Bao, I thought the pork was drying and not juicy. The Bulgogi Bao seemed really salty to my taste, and I wished there was more kimchi bits in the bao. SERVICE: You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you. NOTE: Space and tables are limited so beware if it's packed, and you are trying to eat there. This place was a miss for us. No no no! These Sammies were smothered and covered in sauce wrapped in raw dough. I ordered 3, the pork belly, spicy Thai and panko fish. I took 1 bite of the spicy Thai... it was the sauciest sandwich I've ever eaten. And not in a racy way, in a sticky hands and messy mouth kind of way. I could tell the panko fish was even saucier, Austin Powers would love this!! I didn't even try that one and gave the pork belly to B. Definitely a great food place! Good snack also if you're hungry but don't want to ruin your dinner. I've been here so many times that I always get the same thing because it's just that good every time! I really enjoy their duck bao (typical peking duck) and their soft shell crab bao is definitely very delicious also. It's so crispy!! My other favorite is the big bird which is delicious and such crispy chicken! Essentially it was like eating fettuccine alfredo in a sandwich. The employees are very friendly. For a to-go order, they come up to you, read your order back, and hand you a bag full of napkins and plasticware (which you don't have to request). I came here for the steamed bao buns. You can purchase them frozen or steamed. I made my own filing at home to add to them which came out great. I added fried tofu, cilantro and carrots. The buns were $2 a piece. I ordered 6 of them. I'll definitely be back because they refrigerated nicely and tasted the same the next day. I honestly just stopped here because it's close to my Air bNB while I'm in Houston for work. I was starving and ordered 3 bao buns and the avocado chips. The staff seems to be friendly with a lot of the customers, which I love. The 2 guys working the front were awesome. Ok the food. Wow! This place is in a strip mall and doesn't necessarily look like anything special. The avocado chips were cooked to perfection. Avocado perfectly ripe. Outside panko is hot and crispy. Everything here is for sure cooked to order (keep that in mind if you're in a rush). For the boa, I ordered the peppered tuna, tofu, and the fish. I'm not really used to being able to order bao since I became pescatarian, so the options here are definitely awesome! The peppered tuna comes on a fried bao bun that adds a subtle sweetness and balances out the spice from the pepper. Tuna is fresh and delicious, and the crisp of the bun goes perfectly with the other flavors. The tofu bao was amazing. The spicy sauce is super flavorful and the tofu is cooked to perfection. Even though I'm pescatarian, I'm generally not a huge tofu fan, but this was truly amazing and one of the best tofu things I've had. The fish tempura is also amazing. Light and fresh tempura. Super juicy fish. I think my order of favorites is the order I reviewed them in, but they're all great. My total was $20, which I think is a great deal for fresh food with high quality ingredients. Walk-up to the counter to order type of establishment. They give you a number and bring your food to you. Can I just say... I AM ABAOT THIS PLACE! The menu can be overwhelming, as they have quite the variety and we didn't want to over order but also wanted to try everything... I highly recommend sticking to traditional Bao meats (pork and duck) if you don't want to go wrong with your order. But I do I have to say that the Crab Daddy took it out of the park for me. We came during lunch and both my husband and I ordered the 3 Bao Lunch (which came with one side). Ordered the Fat Fries Half/Half (Bulgogi/Pork Belly) per recommendation of the cashier if we weren't sure what type of meat we wanted, a side salad with miso ginger dressing, and 6 baos: 2 Pork Belly, 1 Memphis, 1 Crab Daddy, 1 Duck, and 1 Yummy Byrd. Everything was so freaking good! The fries are thin and crispy, and I would recommend the pork belly instead of the bulgogi. The bulgogi was too salty for me, and since it also had more sauce on it, it made the fries more soggy. The pork belly was a great pairing with the fries. There wasn't sauce, so it combined with the fries and flavor there much better. Basic salad but their miso ginger dressing was on point and was a nice side to have while we overloaded on carbs and meat. 2 baos/person with a side is more than enough imo for a meal. We barely got through all of our food. They are generous with the portions of meat, which is a win in my book because eating an empty bao because there wasn't enough meat is frustrating. The pork belly and duck are classics, and they did the classics well. Good portion of meat, not too much sauce (which was great and not too sweet or salty), and the baos were filling. Meats were juicy and cooked well too. My favorite was the crab daddy... it was crispy/crunchy, and the sauce it came with pulled it together with the bun. The Memphis was the pork belly with a different sauce, which was good too. I didn't care for the Yummy Byrd, too much flavor and sauce and cheese going on there. I do have to say I left dreaming of their habanero sauce... I literally put that on all my baos and dipped them in it and it was so good. I eat obnoxiously spicy so for others, a little goes a long way as it's pretty spicy but I loved the kick and flavor it gave all my baos on top of the sauces they already came with. Omg so glad I stumbled upon this lil place leavening Trader Joe's. I was ravenous hadn't had a decent meal all day. Fat Bao was everything I needed. It was 47 min before they closed. My food was fresh, the Spicy Thai bao was juicy, not too spicy and had an amazing crunch. The Panko Fish bao was also crispy and delicious, I'm not even a fan of slaw but it was bussin. Majority of the items on their menu are baos of different variations. They also have a lunch special of two or three baos and a side with a drink. This is a much better option for your bucks. My favorites are usually the New Yorker, crab daddy and bulgogi. Usually three baos would fill me up. The sizes aren't that big. However, they stuffed the inside of the bao with plenty of fillings. The French fries are very thin and crunchy. Services are usually fast. The baos doesn't take that long to make. It's more of a self-served place. Get your own drinks and someone will bring your food over. Overall, a pretty good option for a quick bite. read more

I used to LOVE fat bao. A couple months, my mom and I ate there and got different things. Afterwards, she got horrible food poisoning and needed medical attention for two weeks. She hadn't eaten anything else that could've given it to her. I decided to go back against my better judgement and got the worst food poisoning I have ever had in my entire life. I would have to say, I enjoyed this place but it didn't blow me away. I came here during my short trip to Houston, and I like the idea of the modern take on a Chinese bao. The inside of the restaurant was clean and the tables were set far apart for social distancing. I took out though because I had dogs with me in the car. The baos were well packed and tasted good!
