Salmon Weir shuffled some of their guests around and freed up beds for us. I've only come across more helpful, nicer staff once (and I stay in hostels quite often, so that's saying something). The Salmon Weir might not be the newest, shiniest hostel around, but they are clean, with a great TV room/ lounge and two kitchens; they also provide a laundry service for a fiver and some weekends you'll get free beer. The only downside was that one of the bunks in our dorm wasn't too stable, and my sister was nearly afraid to move in her sleep... on the other hand, this became a bit of a running joke during our trip, so we had a good laugh.

Bohermore Cemetery (also known as New Cemetery) was open in 1880. It has both a Catholic and a…read moreProtestant mortuary chapel. Operated by the Galway City Council, it is a "lawn style" cemetery and it looks to be at capacity. The cemetery does contain several memorials and the final resting place of a number of famous people including Pádraic Ó Conaire (there is a replica statue in Eyre Square and the original in the Galway City Museum), William Joyce (aka Lord Haw-Haw) and victims of KLM Flight 607-E that crashed in 1958.
