I like to saunter along, barter with the chirpy market folk and pick up various things for my tea - buffalo mozzarellla, honey, jam, crumbly bread and slabs of fresh meat. Don't go there when you're hungry - it's dangerous as you'll come away with twice as much. Head down to Corn Street, near St. Nick's market, every Wednesday 9.30 am -2.30pm.

The focus is on fresh food from local producers; its the farmers themselves that are selling you the goods. There's more or less everything you could imagine finding on a farm, with highlights including the various organic meat stalls (v. expensive) and the fruit stalls later in the summer, when you can get some of the recent strawberry crop People know about their goods and love to talk about it. This isn't a supermarket experience and people are keen to have a chat - it's a bit like being in the countryside, funnily enough. It runs on a Wednesday, so if you're working in the city centre (it's based by St. Nicholas Market on Corn Street) treat yourself in your coffee/lunch break and pick up some crusty bread and cheddar cheese. You'll feel much better than you would queueing up with the other suits, even if it does cost a little bit more.

We were not disappointed, this a great little farm shop, they have a great selection of deli items, including jams, chutneys etc and sell loads of nice veggies as well as having great meat counter at the end of the shop. The menu was was simple but did not disappoint, they have a selection of breakfast options as well as salads, ploughmans and a sandwich selection on the lunch menu. We both had the smoked trout, it was on the menu as a terrine however we were told they had sold out but could offer a smoked trout salad instead. It was really nice, the Trout had a really nice flavour, and was served with salad and toast, the waitress bought out a couple of salad dressings and oh my god the spiced mango chutney was Devine. My colleague and I both bought a bottle to take home, I don't think it will last very long. We also had a tea for two which gave us about 4 cups each and was great value for money, tea was served in lovely China which always makes tea taste better! I will definitely be visiting again and next time I'll be taking some more money for some yummy treats to take away! Sorry only got a pic of the sauce as I'd left my phone at home.

It's all lovely round here, so it's a great setting- the farm shop sells a variety of local fruit and veg, plus honey, chutneys and chocolate (made very locally in Newton St Loe). There's a butcher too- all the meat is British and most of it is local. You can also get some very fancy cordon bleu ready meals- and I don't mean the kind of thing you'd see in a supermarket. Plus, always a bonus in my eyes, you can take a load off and sit down for a cream tea, or a lovely piece of cake- seating both inside and outside. Lovely little place, good for gifts and for higher-end farm produce.

Every Sunday this…read morelovely little market will set itself up along the banks of the River Taff and sell its wonderful wares to the unsuspecting (and suspecting) public. In fact, this is such a permanent and well loved fixture of the Cardiff local flavour, that even when the market is not in session, you'll find a series of fruit and vegetable sculptures in the same spot. These cross sections of cucumbers and apples can be looked through to see the grand Millennium Stadium beyond. If you're a fan of keeping your carbon footprint as small as possible, then this is the place for you. All of the products on sale here are very high quality and extremely local. This is a fantastic way to while away a Sunday afternoon. The only problem is that I'd like it to be larger with a better selection!

It was perfect for a lazy, sunny, Sunday. I have to admit I didn't end up buying much apart from bread and cakes, but they did have a huge selection of cheeses and deli style foods across the 30 odd stalls. It also has craft stores and flowers and really, really good coffee. This is probably not the place for people on a budget to do the weekly shop but a great place to pick up some really special ingredients and a fantastic way to spend an afternoon away from the city centre. Open Sunday 10am- 4pm

Both Mrs G and I enjoyed strolling the Salisbury market area and nearby shopping, restaurants and…read morebars. I definitely deduct a star because, while parking in England is usually a challenge - not enough spots (all (too) small for my Land Rover) and expensive, parking in Salisbury seemed to us like the worst for a small city! Anyway - back to market and surroundings. Historic buildings including a magnificent cathedral, a wide variety of pubs and eating places, an open market and a wide range of stores selling just about anything your heart might desire. We were lucky to catch the open market itself on Saturday morning en route to lunch at the Haunch of Venison (the pub from 1320 - see my review). They had every kind of cheese, fruit etc as well as clothes, crafts and more. Review #58 2019

I came here twice with my mother-in-law to pick up a few fresh items (strawberries), direct from the farmers. The hardest part is finding a parking spot. Lucky for me, my mother-in-law had a handicap sticker, which meant that we were able to park right at the market square. I'm not sure what you do if you can't park on the street. There has to be a parking lot somewhere, I just didn't need to figure that part out. If you are in the neighborhood, stop in and enjoy! I'll be back the next time I'm nearby.
