Farouge has a nice clean, open and modern feel. High ceilings and plenty of windows create a nice atmosphere.
After ordering a Leffe Brun, my meal started with an amuse bouche of a spicy creamy hummus that was very delicious and a pleasant surprise. I don't think I've ever got an amuse bouche at a Lebanese Restaurant before...maybe I'm not going to the right places ;-)
For an appetizer I went for both Hummus and Tabouli.
The Tabouli was fantastic! Very fresh, nice mix of spices and a perfect hit of lemon.
The Hummus was flat though. The seasoning level (salt & lemon) were too low. Also there wasn't enough chick peas in it. I don't like a chunky Hummus but it's got to have some body. This one was more the consistency of mayonnaise and was served at room temperature or higher. It gives a mouth feel that's not appealing.
Mixing the Hummus and Tabouli together helped to hide the sins.
My main was Shish Tawuk. (Chicken breast fillet on a skewer, marinated with cardemom, thyme and garlic and spicy rice.)
WOW, that was incredible!
The chicken was tender & juicy, marinated and covered in crust of delicious flavours. The chicken was served an a bed of spiced rice and a "snowman" of garlic sauce. (See the photo)
Dessert: Baklava. If you have room then GET IT !!
Bottom line: go here. The food was fantastic. If you like your Hummus creamy then you'll be in heaven. If not then either skip it or get the Tabouli with it and eat the two together. read more
