One early morning, I walked less than 5 minutes to see if I can buy something over the counter. Unfortunately, all the typical "over the counter" medicine was behind the counter and I needed a pharmacy staff to allow me to purchase. Needless to say, my conversational Spanish didn't get very far. Regardless, staff was nice and patient. I didn't leave empty handed since I also needed feminine products. The shelves were well-stocked with prices clearly marked. Store footage in itself is small, but the store had a little of everything, including overpriced snacks. Overall, everything was clean and organized. Thank you Farmacity for opening early on a Saturday morning when everyone else is still sleeping.

Even knowing that it's the oldest pharmacy in the entire country of Argentina (and one of the…read moreoldest in all of America) , I'd be hard-pressed recommending this as a must-see. Farmacia de la Estrella was founded in 1834 and today, doubles as both a pharmacy and a museum. It sports a rather dusty old feeling but that's actually the charm; the surroundings are circa 1834 but the products on display are present-day goods. 19th century tinted glass bottles line the shelves. Original mosaic tiles cover the floors. Carved wood furniture, and ornamental details sit in the space with frescoed walls and and an artful ceiling. An old-school scale sits by the door; go ahead, weigh yourself. Not realizing this was anything more than a very old pharmacy, I was snapping photos of the vintage interior somewhat on the dl, uncertain if it was allowed before a pharmacist engaged me in conversation. I realized then that visitors were welcome, workers here are proud to share this space even with those who come in just to look around. Farmacia de la Estrella isn't a destination but if you happen to find yourself in the vicinity, it's free and definitely worth a visit. You'll feel completely comfortable here in your present-day clothes though you'd not be at all out of place were you to arrive dressed in authentic 1800's garb.
