If you are looking for a reliable, professional and patient-oriented pharmacy, turn around: this is certainly not how I would describe my experience at the " Farmacia Clapes ". I called them this morning to make sure that they had the medicine I desperately need for my IVF treatment before leaving for the airport (the country where we leave doesn't carry any of these drugs unfortunately) and they confirmed they had them and I could just come anytime with the prescription. Which I did, but once I arrived there, they refused to serve me pretending that they can only accept prescriptions in Spanish and by a Spanish doctor (I had the latter but not the former). When I asked how come this wasn't specified to me on the phone earlier, they simply replied that I should have guessed all these internal rules. As I didn't have internet connection, I asked this "pharmacy" if I could quickly call my doctor in Barcelona to get the prescription in Spanish, but they refused once again ... and just sent me away - knowing full well that at that point I was only left with two choices: either losing my flight back or the embryos we had just transferred. Some might argue that I may be a little emotional given the circumstances: that is probably true, but I also strongly believe that access to medicines and dignified medical care shouldn't depend on the erratic behaviors and internal rules of health practitioners. Everyone deserves the right to health and I hope that this short note, as bitter as it might sound, will serve as a wake-up call to all the so-called "pharmacies" all the word, that they are not regular businesses but have an ethical duty towards their patients. read more
