Family Floor Store laid new tile for a wood stove hearth and vinyl plank flooring in my living room and kitchen. Erin was extremely professional in helping me select the flooring and setting up the installation. Unfortunately, the installation was not as professional. The vinyl flooring was laid so that planks with the identical pattern were placed right next to each other in a number of places leading to a bad look where the variation in the flooring pattern is not evenly distributed. Also a couple of screws in the sub floor were not flush but they installed right over them and now the screws are visible popping up through the floor. One of them is right in the main line of traffic and clearly visible. When the installers were putting in the tile for the wood stove hearth, they initially laid it directly on the plywood sub floor and I had to have them rip it out and place a layer of cement board between the tile and the sub floor. Tile under a stove gets hot and conducts heat and should not be installed directly on plywood. All of these mistakes are ones that amateur DIYers might make but should not be made by professional installers. Actually, any YouTube video on how to install a vinyl plank flooring will teach you to vary the pattern of the planks so that identical planks aren't next to each other and to make sure the sub floor is flat. I could have done a better job myself on the vinyl. This whole experiences is a shame. I have also had carpet installations done by Family Floor in the past that turned out fine. The problems with the vinyl installation didn't really bother me until several months later, and when I emailed Family Floor to make them aware of the not professionally done installation I got radio silence. No expression of concern or apology that I was not happy with the work they did. That tells me they really don't care. Family Floor Store is literally the only floor store in the Ellsworth/MDI area that sells a wide range of materials AND does installations. They need some competition. There is an excellent business opportunity for an enterprising person to open a competing flooring store that does better work and stands by its work. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Family Floor Store. read more
