In order to guesstimate the quality of a Turkish restaurant, I usually try the classic Döner meat. Let me start with the ambience. It's pretty standard. Nothing good, nothing bad there. The seats are comfortable and the place is clean and warm. The service is a bit slow. Even though we went there on a weekday, it was still pretty slow compared to other Döner shops. We did enjoy the serve-yourself traditional Turkish tea till our food arrived. The veg pizza was very standard. Good value for money I would say and I was really impressed with the way in which my Döner Teller with rice was presented. But that's it. Problems started once I started eating my Döner Teller. Firstly the Döner meat was very dry and tasteless. Seems like it had be on the roll for a very long time. The rice looked good but was very bland and cold. The rice was covered with a layer of Döner meat and hence the whole thing was a weird combination of hot and cold food. Not good! The sauces were okay. And the salad was okay too. Also I felt that it was made to look like a lot Döner meat by layering it over rice, but actually there was very less meat compared to the rice. Overall it was definitely not an experience worth cherishing. Bottomline :- no more Döner Teller there for me. Maybe the next time I go there I might try their falafel since they are after all "Falafel Sultan".

Just went to Falafelhaus for the third time today. Never again!…read more Whatever you do, don't argue with the old man in charge. No item on the menu is up for discussion. Don't want the side of flatbread? Throw it in the bin. You're getting it, whether you want it or not! I committed the cardinal sin of trying to combine two orders (Foul and Manakish). I think the old man must've had a "mind blown" moment - in any case, he couldn't compute. He doubles down and refuses any further discussion. Threatens to not serve me if I continue talking. Practically a Mexican standoff, me with 4,50€ in my hand, his posed dangerously over the cash register. You're a long, long way from any concept of "hospitality" or "customer service" in this joint. Expect mildly Lebanese cuisine with all the stubbornness of a German school cafeteria. Pros: close to university fairly priced, by Braunschweig standards pick'n'choose your own salad ingredients top-notch authentic Soup Nazi experience (for the masochists) Cons: long waiting times veggies are as Lebanese as Angela Merkel customer service feels like fisticuffs at the Arbeitsamt Shame, because there's only one other place in Braunschweig that does proper Falafel: Falafeli, just down the road. Go there instead. The lady running it won't hate you when you have a request.

Following reviews here on yelp, we decided to try it out, and found a cosy little wine bar and restaurant in a small alley in the old town. We sat outside in the small courtyard in front of the restaurant, but as one of the few places in Celle, it would have been possible to sit inside too, in the cool wine cellar below the streets. We shared a starter of home made falafel, which was actually really good. First time my girlfriend tried falafel, and she liked it. For the main course my girlfriend had the grilled sword fish with grilled vegetables, and according to her the best vegetables she have had in a long time. I had the veel Wiener schnitzel with potatoes and a delicious mushroom sauce, a very tender schnitzel in just the right size portion. The wine here was probably the best experience of them all. We started with a glass of bubbles on this warm evening, and switched for the main course to the Mosel Riesling (2014), which was probably the best white wine we have had for a very long time - so smooth and delicious, perfect balance between dry and sweet, so fresh! We also tried a glass of rosé, which was also really good, although couldn't beat the Riesling :). Service too was really great. A young and a little shy waitress was so sweet and waited all the tables to perfection.
