Yeah, this one's a "no" for me.
I remember going here years ago when they first opened and really enjoying their falafels, especially in preparation for an Acland Street night out or just after a few drinks.
Not anymore. I came here again recently and quality had just gone way downhill. Plus, I was frustrated that to make the falafel wrap vegan I was forced into getting the gluten-free pita bread. I mean, really? Why do you have to put animal products in your regular pita bread?! Kiiiiiiiiinda bizarre. And look, I'm no gluten-free hater as long as the gluten-free option tastes decent, but this one tasted like cardboard. I ate here weeks ago and I think there's still bits of it glued to the insides of my molars -- it was that cardboard-y. You'll give your toothbrush a workout for sure.
Anyway. Aside from the craziness of not being able to have regular pita bread, the falafel balls were just dry and gross, and the fresh veggies tasted not-so-fresh. They looked like they'd been sitting out all day.
I will also say that for a place with "falafel" in its name, it's pretty bizarre not to have more vegetarian and vegan options. I mean, falafels are such a huge meat-alternative staple for vegos that I'm just surprised a falafel place wouldn't be more vego-friendly.
On the plus side, service was great -- the girl was super-friendly and told me what I could and couldn't have as a vegan. Only bummer is that she was literally the ONLY person working here on a fairly busy night on Acland St, so I felt sorry for her.
Price-wise and atmosphere-wise, no surprises here. It's a pretty standard brightly-lit unimaginative space, narrow little room with uncomfortable seats, feels pretty much like any other fast food joint or kebab shop. read more
