In October, two students attacked a teacher (see KSDK for details), in the same month a student set the bathroom on fire. Academically, the school has set the bar low. The materials covered are at least 3 years behind grade level. Some teachers care and appear to try but when the students are raised in homes where manners, respect and courtesy are not taught, they bring those behaviors to school. This is not a school that should continue to operate in the St Louis Public School District. It is failing to meet the State Guidelines. For example, in the Science portion of the State exam, less than 1% of the students at this school scored at a proficient level. The Math and Reading sections are only slightly better (5-6% range). This neighborhood needs a KIPP or a similar school to turn this around. Neighborhood improvements start with jobs and education. If the St. Louis Public Schools refuse to try innovative techniques to educate this population, they should close and allow another option, for this and similar communities. Disgraceful!!

She picks on students who she doesn't like and blames them for things that students she does like did. And the head principal Jamie Jordan isn't any better she's just fucking useless. While wydown might be ranked highly as far as middle schools in Missouri go I would never in a million years send another child here. I can't stress enough how awful it is. The school district has a LOT of work to do with its students of color. In addition, school leadership repeatedly refuses to take these concerns seriously or make significant changes. I think this school is excellent for the average privileged nonminority child - it takes a child set up for success and helps them succeed. I continue to question their methods with children of color, including the curriculum and literature that is taught, and the frequent insertion of conservative politics into the classes by various teachers. There are few staff members there that I enjoy. I don't think I would recommend it to others.
