Fair Haven will always be near and dear to me! This organization provides temporary accommodations to families that have a loved one in the hospital receiving treatment services. Most guests are from out of town and as you can imagine hotel costs can add up quickly if their loved one is in the hospital for weeks/months. This is where Fair Haven steps in. They have about 10 rooms I believe, and they're also partnering with Stadium Lofts across the street and have a block of apartments guests can utilize. I have volunteered here regularly through my job over the last several years and having had grandparents that both ultimately suffered from having cancer, I love giving back to people with relatable stories. Fair Haven has 2 full clean kitchens equipped with everything you might need to cook a meal for the guests. They also allow you to drop off meals as well. If you've spent time in the hospital with a loved one, you know the last thing you want to do in the evening is to think about what's for dinner. Cathy, the Community Engagement Director, is SO sweet! She is always so quick to respond to my emails, and throughout our time at Fair Haven, she has always been so warm, welcoming, and helpful. I truly appreciate how responsive she is and the kindness she shows my team whenever we work together! If you're looking for a way to give back, Fair Haven is a great place to do so! Depending on the time of day, you might get to meet a guest or two and hear their story which is makes your volunteer efforts a little more personal and meaningful! It reminds you that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference in someone's day. read more
