So I had been wanting some soft shell crab. So I made sure to step up for lunch to hit the Lexington market so I can do just that! I ended up getting the crab sandwich and also the fried clams. You walk in the market, there's a bunch of stalls and shops around you. The one in the center does oysters, you go to the right you can get crab, it just depends on what you're looking for. There's really not much seating but there's some standing seating only, which makes sense when you see it lol! I came in and did a lab, then went to the right, ordered my crab and clams and chowder down. The crab was pretty good, pretty flavorful. I feel like it was a smaller size crab but I guess that's not a big deal. That would honestly be my biggest drawback. I came for a crab sandwich and there was much more bread than crab... But the flavor was good on what I got. Came with lettuce and tomatoes... the sandwich was pretty solid. The fried clams are okay. I felt like they were more fried pieces and they were fried clams themselves. If that makes sense. You know how you get popcorn and you eat all the popcorn out of the bag and then you have all the smaller pieces and kernels, kind of like that. But they were good though. I had really no significant issues and I would definitely go back. I actually feel like I should have ordered the crab cake. I see this place on nearly every list of must-have crab cake spots. The crab cakes were OK. Just OK. They are pre-made and just sitting there waiting for someone to nuke them in a microwave. Expensive. The sticker shock was strong. But for an OK crab cake. For the platter, the portions of the sides were excruciatingly small - I get that they are well, sides, but come on now. So I was on a quick business trip and I really didn't want to eat the food the company provided. And I really really wanted some seafood. So I went online, and Faidley's Seafood was the first seafood restaurant to pop up. So I told my husband let's head there right after the meeting. We found parking close by. When I got there it wasn't too crowded. The menu wasn't too overwhelming. The only overwhelming part was the price for the food. Lol! Which it is seafood.... So I do understand that's why it costs so much... So I ordered the jumbo lump crab cake with the french fries and coleslaw. My husband got the fried catfish with the same sides I got. We also added the cornbread, or was it a biscuit. I don't remember exactly... But I just had to have it, and it was a separate charge for it, too. The service was awesome and quick, too! They could tell that we weren't from Baltimore, too... lol! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.. But they did explain the menu to us and etc. Our bill was about $65.00. I wish we had a little more time. Because I really wanted to sit and try the oyster bar. The inside reminded me of a fishing pier, and the decor was pretty cool. I'm definitely coming back and doing a weekend trip just for another plate of the jumbo lump crab cake. Oh! And parking is right next door. So you don't have to park far. Just make sure to read all the directions in the parking facility next door. There will be a machine that you'll have to pay at and collect a coin from, too. I perused most of Lexington Market and wandered into Faidley's last. The setup was a little confusing because they had many stands stamped with their name but the award winning jumbo crab cakes were way in the corner near its outside entrance. Picked up a tray and the process reminded me of a cafeteria style. We each ordered the jumbo lump crab cake platter (around $33 each) which comes with two sides. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese and Maryland crab soup didn't blow me away. The coleslaw was nice and light, bitter and peppery, and the fried corn on the cob was delicious, seasoned well. The crab cakes are AMAZING. So much meat which made it a filling lunch, the outside was flaky and seasoned perfectly! Such a thrill to introduce my son (11 yrs old) to his first crab cake. I don't know if it can ever be better than this. The lump crab cake was rich, not too saucy and perfectly, but not TOO, crisp. I was visiting Baltimore and was really excited to try this place that had rave reviews of their seafood! Unfortunately, I was left less than impressed and am unsure if I would make a stop in again. Let's start with the good! We decided to order the 5 fried shrimp and jumbo lump crab cake to share. Total cost for both was $33 which is pricey, but the food was well worth it! The crab cake is enormous, crispy on the outside, and has TONS of sweet juicy lump crab meat packed into it. It's gently fried and not greasy, and was so good. The fried shrimp were crispy and meaty and served with cocktail sauce. Both extremely satisfying. Unfortunately, the bad comes from the prep of our food. While they were prepping the crab cake plate, the woman prepping grabbed the lettuce for the side salad with her bare hands (without washing them prior) and put it on our plate after she was just touching her phone. To me, this is basic hygiene that was not followed and we immediately threw away the salad. She did not wash her hands afterwards either and proceeded to continue touching her phone. It was unfortunate because the salad looked tasty, and I also started worrying about the sanitation of the rest of my food. Otherwise, this establishment sells a lot of specialty meats to include escargot, gator, turtle, and a ton of other seafood. I saw a family next to us get some of their raw oysters which looked large and they seemed to enjoy them! The ambiance is very casual with community style standing tables. Wow, the crab cake I had here was to die for. On second thought, it shouldn't even have been called a crab cake, more like a heap of lump crab with a sprinkle of breading. The meat was mega-juicy and the flavor fantastic. It was served alongside a small salad with an acidic vinegar-based dressing which complimented the fat-forward cake beautifully. We got 3 crab cakes, one shrimp stuffed crab, and a crab dip. They were all FANTASTIC! But it cost me $120. Like I said, nothing but love for the food but it really is so expensive I think I will go back if I win the lottery. So as of June 2023 they're still in the old Lexington market space. The newly remodeled Lexington market is bright and shiny but this location has all the charm of old Baltimore. We parked in the garage and had to walk through the sketchy part of Eutaw St. so be aware of which exit to use. Garage parking is really cheap. read more

But we did have to add a generous amount of salt to up the flavor ante. Not sure if it was just that day's mixture or what. It was a unique style of soup with a lot of crab...whisps in it. I wouldn't call it meat or lump meat. Instead it was like eating crab shreds in a tomato based soup. All pretty good, but the winner was the corn with the old bay seasoning. Also ordered the pick three assortment with blue crab, mussels, and snow crab. The snow crab being the favorite. Faidley's does not have the best crab cakes in town. If there was a top 5 list, Faidley's might come in at #23. The crab cake I purchased on 07-30-22 tasted like a sad attempt to blend crabmeat with old Bay crab cake mix. There was a 75:25 ratio of filler to crab meat; the crab meat was lacking. In addition, old Bay seasoning was missing in action. The filler that did attend was not a welcomed addition. On the contrary, it tasted as if it belonged in another meal. A quick reheat in the microwave showed how much grease is in this product. There was a clear separation between crab meat and crab filler. I much rather prefer a blend of the two. The macaroni was cheesy and bland. It passed for being cooked. Faidley's is not worth the hype. Instead, use your trip to Lexington Market to get some wings and a Half n' Half. Shipping order made on June 28,2025 for scheduled delivery date July 3, 2025. I ordered 4 crab cakes to be delivered to my son in Conway, SC who misses Maryland Crab Cakes. According to UPS history they picked up crab cakes from Faidley's Seafood and arrived at Sparks, MD UPS facility July 5, 2025, at 5:05pm and reached Conway, SC address at on July 3, 2025, at 4:57pm. My son called me and said the crab cakes arrived warm to touch so he didn't want to eat them. I have ordered crab cakes from 2 other well know restaurants in Baltimore area and the crab cakes had always arrived cold. I called Faidley's on July 7, 2025, and they told me they have never had a delivery problem before and had shipped as far as California without complaint. I said I understand but it would seem this is not the case. Faidley's said they would not eat the cost of shipping 4 more crab cakes but would ship 2 crab cakes as replacement. I said okay. Well that never happened either, I never got another shipping order with a tracking number. So I can't say anything good about my experience. read more

After talking to a few people, they all said crab cakes were the thing to order when in Baltimore. I will admit I wasn't looking forward to trying a crab cake, especially at $16 for each crab cake. I've also tried a crab cake before and it wasn't the greatest thing so I didn't really want to spend $40 for two crab cakes. But I did. And I'm glad I did. The crab cake itself was very tasteful. Plenty of crab meat and had a nice buttery creamy peppery feel and taste to it. Next time I'm in Baltimore, I'll probably try a few other places, but if they're not as good as Faidleys is, I'll return back during the same trip. The Mac and cheese was also delicious, and also came with fries and a little salad. Probably wouldn't order the dinner again, the crab cake will be all I would be ordering to satisfy my needs. I also things it's pretty cool that they don't have seats and just standing room only seating. If you insist on sitting during your meal (like my wife) then they have seating upstairs in the mezzanine area, but I would highly recommend avoiding that upstairs to eat by yourself or with a family.
