I had been wanting to work with a personal trainer and came across The Factory Gym a few weeks ago…read more After realizing that it is located in my end of town that made me take the plunge as they are not only close to my house but offer personal training as well. I called and talked to the general manager, Tarek who was so very helpful, answered all my questions and encourage me to come in a take a tour of the gym. I had no idea that the gym has been there since 1984 about as long that we have lived in the south-end, across from the post office on Allmond Ave. The space is open with free weights, machines, a training area with all kinds of equipment to perform every exercise you could ever do. The staff are very friendly, plenty of parking right out side the door, men and women's locker rooms, a breakroom, healthy food options and a small kitchen. There are many bodybuilders who work out in the gym but everyone has been friendly and helpful if I have questions. Tarek hooked me up with Kayla, one of the trainers. You have to be a member of the gym to train there but they take Silver Sneakers so that is cool. I paid the gym directly for my training sessions and they cut you a deal if you pay for 8 sessions up front (one free). Kayla has been fantastic. As a body builder herself I feel confident in her workouts. She pushes me and I'm sore after our workouts but she is intent on preventing injury while building strength, mobility and balance. We had a couple of conversations prior to our first visit and she has tailored my sessions to work on my issues. I have finished 7 of my 8 sessions, going to the gym twice a week meeting with Kayla and what she wants me to focus on outside of our sessions together. She went out of town and sent me two workouts to do while she was gone. We will meet this week for our last session. I have been impressed with the facility, the staff and especially my trainer Kayla.

Your membership is very affordable, and you get access to a gym that has everything you need. Treadmills, rowing machine, cross trainers, weight machines, Smith machines, free weights, cables, spin class, yoga class, workout studio... it's all here. And it's recently remodeled. So it's still nice. The locker room is also pretty sound. Nice and new. Also has good showers with decent pressure. The one drawback is that it is a little small. It's not really ever been an issue for me, as there aren't too many people that frequent the gym after work when I like to go. So I seldom have to wait for anything. If you're a Humana associate, and you're not utilizing the Humana gym, then you're letting a good opportunity pass you by.

If you want to change your life, reclaim your health, and make some amazing friends along the way,…read morethis is the gym for you. I first came to CrossFit Regeneration in April 2017 when I was at my heaviest and in the worst shape of my life. I have never before been a fit or athletic person. I had tried many other types of fitness classes, but nothing ever stuck. I decided to make a change and take on the challenge of CrossFit. Now I love CrossFit and I think it is a fun and functional way to stay in shape. But that is not what makes this gym special. What makes this gym special are the owners, Charlie and Kari Sims, who truly care from the bottom of their hearts about the health of every individual who walks through their doors. They have staffed their facility with knowledgeable coaches who take the time to ensure that everyone is educated on how to perform exercises safely and properly. They meet each member where they are and help them to modify any workout to suit any fitness level. They offer nutrition challenges to further educate their members on how to live healthier lives. And they support you all along the way. The Sims also have never met a stranger. They have made it a priority to cultivate community in their gym that you can't find just anywhere. That is the reason I have kept coming back. You can put exercise equipment in any building and have a gym for people to come to. But what makes people come back is other people that care. That is what you will find here. A village of people to support you in your journey to make yourself better, while we all strive for the same thing ourselves. This gym has changed my life forever, not just because of CrossFit, but because of the devotion the staff has to its members and the community that is fostered in this gym. If you are intimidated by the thought of going to any gym, come to our gym. If the word "CrossFit" strikes fear into your heart, come to our gym. If you are in the worst shape of your life, come to our gym. If you've never even done one freakin push-up, come to our gym. If you are ready to put in work and change your life, come to our gym. I have improved my physical health, mental health, and gained a second family by coming here, and I want the same for anyone reading this. I can't speak highly enough of this place and the people here.

Which is why I love Orangetheory! Orangetheory is a boutique fitness gym for small group, heart-monitored workouts-- strength only and/or high intensity interval training that target both types of workouts in 60 minutes or less. It has an upbeat vibe and welcoming atmosphere. The coaches are terrific! They provide encouragement and instruction while timing each step in the workout. Best of all, for the nerds among us (myself included), you get a report at the end of your workout that shows how long you were in each heart zone. You can track your own progress! They offer the option to come in and try a free class, and that was what I did. Their staff were very friendly, answered all of my questions, and were available via text. After trying the first class, I signed up right then - I had such a great time! Hortworx is a facility that offers infrared sauna workouts - yoga, pilates, cycling, rowing.... a LOT of options, so it doesn't feel redundant. The saunas can fit up to 3 people, but after coming in regularly I've noticed that most people prefer to book during an empty time, so you will almost always have it to yourself (and I LOVE that!) To be honest, if it ever got to a point where I had to share a sauna with 2 other people it probably wouldn't be enjoyable, but it doesn't seem like they are ever that crowded. The saunas have TVs that show recorded workouts for you do follow on your own. It varies by workout, but each session is offered every 30-45 minutes and is open to members 24 hours a day. There are staffed hours, but when the staff is not there, you are given a door code to let yourself in. Another thing I love... the independence. I feel like I can come in at my own time and don't ever feel like anyone is hovering over me. There is also a small gym section where you can use weights and other equipment. The sauna workouts are very enjoyable. This was my first time trying 'hot' workouts, so I was a bit nervous at first but I adapted quickly. Not only do I feel like I'm getting a good workout, but the saunas have helped detox my body and make me feel amazing after each session. Pricing was another huge factor that lured me in. For $60 a month, I feel like having an unlimited variety of workouts is TOTALLY worth it. You do have to purchase their bamboo mat, but again, I still felt like it was worth it and it is a very nice quality. There is also a premium membership, $70 a month, where you can visit any location and have a 'virtual personal trainer' on their app. I'm really happy with Hortworx and can't wait to keep working out here.

The classes have made me much more comfortable with incorporating weights into my workouts. The only downside is that facility does not have a shower and the last classes during the week begin at 5:30 pm.
