Superlative service! Though I have yet to buy a full set of glasses from these folks, they've saved my skin -- or at least my acuity of vision -- several times now, with repairs to glasses purchased elsewhere, and with accessories such as cases (which are ridiculously under-priced, seems to me -- a wide selection, many of which are just $5 apiece). The most recent repair I had done appears to have broken what is fairly close to an ironclad rule of business: "You can have it good; you can have it fast; you can have it cheap -- pick two out of three." (In many fields, it seems you're now lucky to get even one.) But they were all three: a prix-fixe $ 40 for a complete overhaul and replacement of both nosepieces (though only one had broken) and all four lensholder brackets (again, tho only one had been loose enough for me to have specifically asked for the fix), and cleaning & tightening of hinges; perfectly done in just a few days, when they'd indicated it might take up to two weeks, as it wasn't for a frame from one of their own vendors. This was first time visiting this optical place (for the annual eye exam for my wife) they asked if we have a medical insurance., so my wife gave the insurance card then she had a vision exam including contact Lenz exam done, until then lady at front nor Dr. did not say anything about the separate charges for the contact lenz exam which cost $95 and it does not cover by insurance. the lady told me after the exam and at this point I had no choice but pay the money, I spoke to Manager and he yelled at me and said, it is my obligation know not their what a customer service!! read more

Wow... I've never been treated so poorly by an eye place, particularly where I spent over $300. The sales people did not return my calls; it took over 3 weeks to get the glasses (I was promised one week); and when the glasses arrived, it was the wrong pair. Rather than apologizing, the sales people simply said they would send the glasses back, and it shouldn't take more than another week or so. Had they apologized I might have accepted the mistake but the series of problems and the lack of any apology led me to refuse to pay. I, then, found a great eye place closer to home. I have been buying glasses here for years. However, never again. I bought a pair of glasses that with lenses ran me around $900. Within one year the left lens fell out, these being plastic frames, the lens just pops in, there is no adjustment screw. I went in and was told that the frame was "rolling" and the tech popped it back in. Within weeks the lens fell out again. I was out of state so it took me a few weeks to get back in. Again the lens was put back in. Two weeks later same thing. At that time the frames were replaced. Now just 8 months later the same thing is happening with the new frames. This time, there was no offer of any help other than the "adjustment" in the back. I expect a pair of frames to last more than one year with normal care, and in this case very delicate care with the second frames. Warby Parker, can we talk? read more

I had a horrible experience here and I'm still surprised that for an expensive eyeglass retailer they could not provide better customer service. I had come across this store and had asked if they could adjust my Chanel sunglasses to fit me better. My eyeglasses were not purchased from this store, but I was appreciative at the time that the salesperson was willing to help adjust free of charge. He did not mention anything about the possibility of it breaking or anything or give me any warning. Had I known that there was a possibility of it breaking, I would have thought twice about giving it to him and avoid this whole fiasco. When he returned he gave me back a now broken Chanel pair of sunglasses that I spent a lot of money on and that was less than 2 1/2 years old! All I got was a $200 credit, but I could ONLY use it if I purchased a frame AND a prescription lens (basically I had to spend money in order to use it!). I told him I do not need prescription lens, all I wanted was to be reimbursed for my Chanel glasses to be fixed. Him and the owner would not accommodate me nor pay the $50 to fix the glasses! Instead they insisted on giving me a useless coupon that I can't even use! When I brought my parents in months after the incident to see if they could use the credit, they again made a big stink about in order to use the coupon I have to buy a frame and prescription lens without going through insurance so that I still would have to spend money...just ridiculous!!! We picked out a pair of sunglasses that were around the $200 price mark, but they refused to give it to us. They were getting aggravated with me and just walked away from me...horrible customer service! I wish they would just put themselves in my shoes and understand why this isn't acceptable. How would they feel if someone broke something of their's and didn't try to find a way to make up for it. It's not like they broke a pair of CVS sunglasses, they broke my Chanel glasses!!!!!!!! Offering me a useless coupon where I'd have to spend money, is not a way to make up for breaking someone's property. Again, for a retailer that sells high end expensive glasses and not be able to reimburse a measly $50 is not right. I definitely will never buy anything from here and do not recommend this place at all. Excellent customer service -- Here is my story: leaving the next morning at 5:30 am, HAD to have new lenses and I have a crazy prescription that most shops don't carry (like Lens Crafters), they had something in stock, but not exact, so they made my lenses in about 20 minutes, then ordered the correct ones to be replaced the next week when I come back into town for the same price -- this was at 4:30 in the afternoon. They were willing to go above and beyond for me. I am now a lifetime customer. You get what you pay for here. read more

The ONLY reason I am not giving 5 stars is because they need to take more insurance and/or have some more affordable frames. I also can't believe it has taken me close to a year to write this review. I've been slacking. THAT SAID.... This place and all of the people in it are freaking amazing. I've warn glasses for a long time. I've had MAJOR eye issues, not able to be fully corrected with glasses, for the past 3 years or so. When I finally got the "okay" from my retina doc to get a "normal" eye exam, I just HAPPENED to be in Harvard square and saw the "walk-ins welcome" on the door... so I walked in. I asked if they took Mass Health/Medicare, and they said yes and that they were available that day, so in I went for my exam. The doctor said "I have good news and bad news. The good news is that we can get you a MUCH better prescription. The bad news is I am not going to give it to you, because I think your left retina may be detaching... not to worry you... but you need to go to the hospital right now just to be sure" AND HE PUT ME IN A CAB TO MASS EYE AND EAR, telling me to let him know what happened, and to come back for my prescription when I could. I was, thankfully, told I am "at risk" but non-acute, so I could get my prescription, which I did in a couple of days. Then, a few days later, I got an Eye Q Groupon. Sadly, ALL of the glasses were for more than the groupon amount, and my favourites were... more than I have ever paid for eyewear, ever.. but SO worth it. I made payments for a few months and then picked them up and they have been my main pair ever since. I have literally been STOPPED, as recently as yesterday, about my glasses. I ALWAYS tell the inquiring party EXACTLY where I got them, and how wonderful everyone at the shop is. I will most definitely return when I am able, and if anyone asks me about a place for glasses, I immediately suggest them. read more

Eye Q is great. I've been going there for years. Dr. Luria and his staff are incredibly helpful. They'll spend as much time with you as you need to help you pick out a pair of frames (which are all pretty stylish). And, given my strong astigmatism, Dr. Luria also helped me find contact lenses that I could actually wear (all my previous ones would go in and out of focus). They were also extremely accommodating when I wanted to exchange my frames. I live in Chicago now, but I still come back to Eye Q when I'm in town. Can't say enough good things about them. read more

My husband and I had to visit this place five times-. Twice for to make sure our initial presciptions were correct (they weren't ), and three times to pick up our frames. They ordered the wrong frames twice. When I finaly received my correct frames with my (still incorrect but let's get it over with), lenses, the gentelman said 'oh, these frames will take a lot of adjusting'.... and then proceeded to explain how busy he was and how in the world would I expect my glasses to be adjusted with someone who is so busy helping everyone else! read more

I love this place! I've worn glasses since I was in 3rd grade and consequently my prescription is big and complicated which has resulted in coke-bottle glasses and bad vision/headaches in the wrong hands. I tried the cheapo places and it was a nightmare. I've gotten two pairs of eyeglasses and two pairs of sunglasses at Eye Q Optical. Even though I wear contacts most of the time, I actually like wearing these glasses (this is a major miracle for me!). The frames look good and the lenses are as thin as they get for someone with my prescription. They are not cheap, but it really is worth it to spend the extra money on a good pair of eyeglasses, especially if your prescription is a challenge. They will work with you to find something in your budget and they frequently have some sort of deal. They have a great selection of fashionable frames and they are really good at helping you select the best frames for your face and lifestyle. Paul Fox is particularly helpful with frame selection. I came into Eye Q to have some new lenses put into my old frames. They warned me up front, that the frames may crack, and low and behold they did! Everyone was so nice and even though I was informed beforehand, they compensated me with a discount on some new frames. Also, they were very helpful in helping me select which looked best on my face. Although there didnt seem to be much variety in the price ranges for frames (all on the higher side), I felt like I got exceptional service and it was worth it. First off let me just say that Dr. Luria is awesome! He is one of the reasons I decided to join yelp. So, I just moved here and decided on him as an optometrist based on yelp reviews, and Im so glad I did! He was really nice and helpful and was telling me about what he was doing during my exam since I am interested in medicine. I was given a prescription and tried it out for a few days and it wasnt working, they got me in for an appointment with him that same day and he was more than willing to help solve the problem. My eyes have been having a hard time with contacts and he has spent time helping me as a followup to my first eye exam. The staff is also great, really helpful and very nice. I haven't yet bought glasses, but the staff was giving me ones to try on that fit my face and hair color and they were all great! read more

After countless hours searching the interwebz for a place to get lenses for my frames, that didn't cost an arm and a leg (no insurance), I found Eye Q Optical in Harvard Square. Unlike everywhere else, Eye Q included all the extras (i.e., UV, scratch resistant, anti glare, etc.) with thier lenses as a standard price. Lets be real, who wouldn't want all that and why should you pay extra for it? Don't be nickel and dimed somewhere else, save your time searching and just go to Eye Q! They are speedy as well. Placed my order on a Tuesday evening and picked up my glasses on Thursday. Plus they're nice people. read more

First, the positive. The optometrist seems like a friendly, decent enough guy and the store has a pretty good selection of quirky & unique frames. This review is based solely on a contact lens eye exam. I've been wearing contacts for around 15 years & have come down with presbyopia (meaning it's hard to read fine print while wearing contacts). Simple enough to fix with a new prescription for multi-focal contacts. So I make my first visit to this office with that intent. Once I explain what my problem is and before the exam even starts I begin to get pushed into another approach called monovision. Instead of getting multi-focal contacts for both eyes, I'd get one contact for long distance (in my dominant eye) & one contact for short distance. They've been doing it for 100 years with great success I'm told. But we'll decide once the exam is over what's the best way to go. Well after the briefest eye exam I've ever had, apparently "we" decided to go with monovision even though I don't recall having much input in that decision. I subsequently find out on the internet that, even though several studies say patients greatly prefer (70%) the results of multi-focals over monovision, doctors tend to lean towards monovision because it means less chair time. Well the monovision approach was horrible. Wasn't as noticeable in his office, but driving, trying to read a smartphone or laptop & just about anything else I used to do on a daily basis resulted in a massive negative difference. Depth perception was screwed up. Long distance clarity was no where near what it used to be, though I think that may have to do with the fact he was way off on his prescription which is another story altogether (I went down -.5 in both eyes from my old prescription). Short term distance clarity did improve slightly but it was far from perfect. So that's problem #1. Problem #2. Seemingly after 15 years of happily wearing Acuvue brand contacts with great success & comfort "we" again decided to just switch brands. I'm sure the fact that the brand prescribed was more than 3 times as expensive had nothing to do with this decision. Not once has any doctor just decided to switch my brand without a word of discussion. Well the Acuvue contacts I could wear for 2 weeks straight without the slightest bit of problem. I couldn't wait to rip this new brand out after less than 4 hrs. They don't breathe anywhere near as well, gave me a brutal headache & the clarity was unacceptable, but again that could be a result of the incorrect/weak prescription mentioned above. Problem #3 - So, after having brands switched on me & starting this new approach to wearing contacts, instead of trying them out & seeing how things are working out after a few weeks like every other optometrist has done "we" decided it would be best to order just one box for each eye for $74 ea. Yup, doctors that did nothing other than renew an existing script still wanted me back in a few weeks to make sure I had no problems. But change brands/prescription here & you should be good for at least 7 months. To give him credit, at least he refunded the money for the lenses fairly easily when I informed him I didn't want them. Though he seemed puzzled when I didn't want him to give it another go on trying a new prescription. I already blew $120 plus my only insurance co-pay for the next 2 years on a prescription that is worthless (and seemingly filled out incorrectly to boot BTW) so why exactly would I want to waste more time & money? I'm going elsewhere to get a script for Acuvue multi-focals & hopefully that will go far more smoothly. Just an extremely poor experience & I wish it wasn't, because again he seemed nice enough. read more

I was a stranger in a strange land. I was visiting from DC. And I am a contact lens wearer who is blind as a bat. I have glasses that I never use that I have rolled over on countless times. I never wear them except to walk to bed. On the fateful trip to Boston, I had lost a contact lens. Then, in my zeal to replace it, I dropped my spare in the toilet at the hotel. Now, I have bent glasses and no right lens. Enter Eye Q. I went in late on Saturday, Oct 2 wearing my mangled glasses and told my story. I asked them for assistance. They fixed my glasses, they gave me a spare contact lens, and then would not accept a dime. They saved me big time. If I lived in Boston, this is the place I would go because not only did they take mercy upon me, they were unbelievably nice and engaging as well. If you live there, go. If you are traveling and have a eye wear issue, make your way to Harvard Square. The people who work at Eye Q are top notch (and note, I get my eyes checked at Wilmer at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, and they have never been as nice as the staff at Eye Q). I did however want sunglasses to wear w/ my contacts (the salesperson twice reiterated that they were to be worn w/ contacts). but, you know, the sun glasses i picked up were prescription!! read more

I recently bought a pair of glasses from Eye Q in Harvard Square and their customer service was superb. They go above and beyond what is expected. I found a frame I liked in less than 15 minutes not only because they have a good selection of glasses, but also because the person helping me knew what looked good and what didn't with my facial features and had a good feel of my personal taste after trying out a few frames. I had only left my address but not my phone number with them, so when it was time to pick up my new glasses, they couldn't contact me. The lady that works there looked me up in the phone book and also called 411 to track down my home phone number. I didn't expect them to put in such effort to try to get in touch with me! I ended up having to have my lenses redone twice because of a very badly written and vague prescription from UPenn Ophthalmology. Paul, the optician, was fabulous. He helped me with the redoing process and was more than nice even when I brought my glasses back to be fixed for the second time. Everyone in that store is friendly and professional, and I have never had better customer service buying glasses. read more

I walked by Eye Q and thought I'd go in to check out frames for the fun of it. While there the sales person (forget his name) chatted me up and showed me some cute frames. I ended up buying glasses, sunglasses, and adding prescription lenses in sunglass frames I already owned. Despite feeling like I was negotiating with a car dealership, I closed the sale. I used my existing prescription for all this, so didn't use their doc. There was some challenge getting my glasses back in a timely manner - a time frame they confirmed at the sale. I was going on vacation and needed these glasses. Okay, fine. Worse was this next thing. When I got both sunglasses back, one had light tint and the other had no tint at all. Not helpful for sunglasses. At some inconvenience to me, I hung out while they added the missing tint to one pair. I don't think they were very happy about having to do this, but these are sunglasses for heck sake; they're supposed to be tinted. Neither of these sunglasses have ever been very dark, but there didn't seem anything else to do. Fine. I'll deal. Not the best opinion of a situation that cost me about $1,000 for what started out as a casual window shopping day. Some time later, back at my usual eye glasses provider, I learned that the lenses in both sunglasses are not polarized. So #1 they're never going to be dark like sunglasses should be and #2 they're not working to protect my eyes like sunglasses should. Did Eye Q cheap out on the lenses? Looks that way to me. Did I spend too much money at Eye Q? Yep, sure did. Will I ever go there again, or recommend it? Never. Never. Never. read more

I arrived late to my appointment at 11:30, so I called from the parked car and rescheduled for 12:30 because I did not want to be rushed and I did not want to eat into the next person's time (12:00). I kill some time before walking in between 12:15 and 12:20. Dr. Luria was already in with the patient. He came out a couple of times after 12:30 (my appointment) and though he looked me, not once did he say, "thank you for your patience" or "I will be with you shortly," etc. He finally comes out with the patient at 12:50. He was still going to go through the paperwork with the patient. Again, he does not say anything. When I told him I was going to leave, he says, "It gets crazy here sometimes. But I can see you now." I informed him I had 30 minutes left in my meter. His response, "that should be plenty of time." Really? He was with another patient for well over 30 minutes, possibly 50, and he was going to rush me so that I could be back to my car (5-10 minutes away) within 30 minutes? In all, I wasted over 2.5 hours and walked away without an eye exam. I am aware that we can all run behind, but a little courtesy and consideration go a long way. read more
