Had a great experience! Dr. Hseih was very thorough with his examination. The technlogy used at this office is modern and he conducted eye tests that I hadn't had done before. He was able to detect early signs of cataracts and advised me on how to prevent worsening of the condition. My son may be at risk for glaucioma and I asked him some questions about glaucoma. He was more than willing to explain what glaucoma is, pulled p a diagram of an eye on his computer and talked to me about it. I asked Zeta to help me pick out a frame and she pulled out about 15 frames for me to try on and helped me select the perfect one. For once I'm gonna love my frames :-) They are pricey but in fairness she did ask how much I was willing to spend and I told her that didn't matter as much as being happy with my frames. Really surprised at all the good reviews. Been going here since it was in el sobrante because the Dr Hsieh is very good and friendly. The staff is rude, I have been ignored, come in to pick up glasses and was just handed them not fitted or anything. If you have children it is really bad, they have nothing for kids. Just a bunch of fancy crap in the waiting room which they continually and rudely tell my son not to touch. they were also rude to my wife on several occasions. I had a great experience all around! - Dr. Hsieh explains the meaning of the eye tests and cares to keep the patients informed - The staff are AWESOME at helping pick out frames. I had little idea what I was looking for, and Allison helped me narrow in on some styles. I had to run though, so came back later, and when I said my preferences to Aiden, he immediately knew what frames suit my face, style, and budget. I chose the second frame he suggested and I'm extremely happy with it! My previous not-so-flattering glasses were from a chain, and I can definitely say it is worth it to go here where there are experts that can help you. Plus, I felt the prices here were reasonable anyway. - The receptionist was helpful and friendly. - Eye Love Optometry has gained my trust (very important!) by making honest recommendations about lens upgrades for my needs instead of just trying to sell the most expensive on everything. I've been wearing glasses for 58 years, that's a lot of shopping at stores for eyeglasses. Lots of optometrists, lots of cities, states, locations, optometrists, etc. So adult years, at least 30 purchasing on my own. And I've never been treated with such snobbery as I was today. Because I now live in Hercules I thought it would be good to shop locally. I walked in and was excited by their selection - interesting and pretty - and I'm happy I'm in a position where I can purchase more high end frames. I assume they are high end because they are locked up. There was one gentleman behind a counter in the back, one woman purchasing sunglasses, and one sales lady. I walked around and looked at the frames. Then the sales lady asked me if I had an appointment and let me know they don't take "walk-ins" but I can come back on Tuesday. It wasn't so much what she said, "they're understaffed" but the attitude. Could she have helped me when she was done with the current customer? Absolutely. Most annoying was the arrogant snobbery, I felt like I had done some time and space warp where I was re-enacting an odd less attractive version of Julie Roberts in Pretty Woman. Am I too sensitive? Probably. But people walking in should expect that they may need to pass some sort of status exam before the staff, or at least the lady who was there today, 7/22/17, will help them. read more

The optometrist is thorough and excellent at explaining what all those eye tests are for and what his findings are. Staff is very warm. I chose the first frames Zeta chose for both eyeglasses and sunglasses even though I looked at a bunch of others. I didn't even have to wait long for an appointment. ESO was recently featured on KRON as one of the best optometrists of the Bay. I find that aboslutely appalling. If it's simply optometry then yes, ESO may deserve that distincition. Dr. Hsieh is smart, infromative, and his equipment is truly state-of-the-art ( see comment above). But where the real problem lies is the optician and sales staff. ESO offers most of the top Italian eye wear available, but you would be foolish to purchase the frames directly from them. The mark up on their frames is unbelievable, what's more unbelievable? The fact that they wont reveal the model # of the frames you may be interested in. Hmmm, I wonder why that is? Because with the model number, it is almost a guarantee that you could find them cheaper online. The last straw was when I asked an assistant to try on a pair of frames. As soon as I asked, the optician tells the assistant in spanish not to allow me to see the model #( as you know model numbers are labeled on the inside of the legs). Now, I am not fluent in spanish but the dumb idiot failed to realize that 'model' is just 'modelo' in spanish. If you need an examination, Dr. Hsieh is great, just don't be suckered into purchasing frames and lenses from the sales staff, all you will get is a pretentious and snobbish attitude and end up paying nearly an 100% mark-up from retail. read more

I've been procrastinating and putting off getting my eyes checked for years due to the hassle and the previous experiences. Eye love has really changed the game on many levels. My appointment was seamless, from the minute my insurance gets checked to the time that i set foot in the beautiful modern office. The staff is super friendly and helpful. All aspects of my eye exam was explained to me. You can really tell they know exactly what they are doing truly professionals. Also this office has all the most amazing technology. They have a 3d eye scan! After your eye exam they have personal shoppers to help you select the perfect pair of glasses that fits your personal needs. What else can you ask for? My first visit amazing. But the next couple visits after that even better. The staff is very friendly and I am able to get appointments made quickly and conveniently by the staff. The doctor is very nice and I feel like he spends time with me and doesn't rush through the appointment. He asks me questions and listens, so I feel like he really takes care of his patients. I've been going to a couple different places and I have many choices on my insurance plan, but never wanted to change as this place has given me the appropriate service EVERY optometry should have. Went to this place after being referred by a friend, staff was ok. The doctor was very nice and super helpful. They have really good prices too I don't have the best insurance and my total shocked me and I got name brand frames. So I'm always pleased with that. On the downside is I did feel a little rushed but it could of just been me, my eyes were dilated and It was very hard for me to see or concentrate. My sister has gotten a good amount of her frames from eyelove and they are all super cute. So I figured, since I'm due for an eye exam I'll try this place out too. I had an appointment earlier today. When I walked in I was immediately welcomed with a big smile by Mae. From there on I already felt a good vibe upon this place. I'm a new patient, but she was very quick in setting me up and just like that, I was already being seen by the doctor who also was very thorough with the eye exam that I am very pleased of. The place is super cute and clean. They have a wide selection of cool, hip eye glasses and sunglasses. After my exam, I wanted to check out some eye glasses and Allison was the one who helped me. Allison was very patient and accommodating with my wants and needs. She definitely made me feel very comfortable and helped me find the glasses that were right for me. Positives 1) Great location. 2) Modern & Upscale environment. 3) Courteous & informative support staff. 4) Advanced state of the art diagnostic equipment. 5) Trendy and diverse selection of glasses. 6) Insurance benefits and verification is taken care of for you. 7) Evening appointments Negatives 1) Limited and slightly over priced frame selection. 2) Dr. Hsieh started the exam by saying "Well, I don't see any changes since your last visit". I was a new patient :/ 3) Dr. Hsieh was extremely rushed, and inpatient throughout the entire visit. 4) I opted not to do my first contact lens fitting because of how un-easy I felt due to lack of patience, and since of urgency during the visit. 5) Even though I had explained I had never used contacts before, Dr. Hsieh spoke so fast and used un-familiar terms when explaining my lens options. I felt lost the whole time. 6) Because the visit felt so hectic and rushed, when it was time for the contact lens fitting my anxiety was through the roof. Instead of calmly explaining the process, I was hurriedly instructed to put my head back. I calmly interrupted the procedure, and opted to reschedule. 7) When asked why I decided not to do the contact lens fitting suddenly, I mentioned how rushed the visit felt. Dr. Hsieh immediately became defensive and explained how qualified he was, and his examination was done correctly. 8) Dr. Hsieh didn't seem to have the time to provide the services I came for in a calm and caring manner, yet certainly had the time to up-sale a very expensive, out of pocket ocular scanning service that he provides. Luckily it's optional. I don't question Dr. Hsieh's expertise. I'm sure he can do the exam with his eyes closed. But, what good is having such a beautiful office, amazing support staff, and such high tech equipment if the main objective is completely lost. Customer service is always #1. Patients wait for these visits sometimes months in advance. Customers are the reason you are in business. Don't offer late appointments if you are just going to be overwhelmed and rushed at the end of the day. What good is quantity without quality? In his defense, he did call me on his way home and apologized, "If I felt rushed". He offered me a 3 month supply of free contact lenses. I opted to take my prescription and order my glasses and contacts from someone else. I'm sure this is a great practice for others. It's just not a good match for me. read more

I was referred here by my insurance rep and a couple of other people, so I decided to give them a try, as it was not feasible this year to go to my regular optometrist in Southern California. I have been nearsighted for 30 years and have never been talked down to like I was here. Furthermore, I am a registered nurse, so I don't need the full new patient experience. When I had an issue with my new glasses, I was told "Sorry, but you are a new patient to us so we just didn't know." Perhaps asking a few questions would have alleviated that issue and not cost a remake on the lenses. I was also told that if I had any further issues, that the doctor wouldn't know what else the cause of the issue could be. Sorry, but considering I am prone to nausea and polarized lenses can cause nausea, that's probably the issue, and it wasn't even suggested. Now I'm stuck with a pair of prescription sunglasses that are worthless to me because I get nauseated whenever I wear them. I was not happy with my experience and will not be back. Additionally, all of the frames are locked up making it impossible to try on multiple frames to see what works best. I prefer to see what catches my eye and try it on, not have someone bring me a couple pairs here and there. This usually involves trying on 30 pairs, and I don't want to trouble someone with unlocking the frames. I prefer to browse until I find what I like, not be attended to every second. read more

I had such a great experience here. The staff was so welcoming and kind, the doctor is AWESOME and Aiden is AMAZING!!! The exam was quick and the doctor was very informative. When I went to pick out my glasses Aiden showed up like an angel, he is so good at what he does. He took the time to answer all my questions in detail and to explain the difference between the old contact lenses I've worn over the past, I don't know, 14 years, and some newer ones the are much healthier for my eyes (though they took a little getting used to on my end, as I was so used to the old ones!). Even though I have visited many eye doctors through my many years wearing contacts, I have been using the same brand of contacts for over 10 years because of my eye shape and prescription, and I have never been satisfied with them. Dr. Hsieh took the time to help me find a new brand of contacts, and he utilizes some of the newest technology that makes the appointment go by very quickly. However, be warned: his schedule is packed with appointments, and when he's running behind, you may be waiting for over half an hour. However, it's worth the wait. read more

Excellent customer service from Aidan. He worked with me to select a pair of Rx sunglasses, finding very flattering frames. He also went above and beyond when I wanted to put new lenses in my existing frames. I didn't want to give up my current glasses for the week that would be required to have new lenses put in, but he realized that Eyelove sells the same frame (I bought the frames elsewhere), so he took frames from the display and sent them off to get my new Rx without forcing me to revert to my old glasses or contacts. I also had reading glasses made with a vintage frame I bought at an Art Deco show. When they came back there was a crack in the earpiece, and even though this was not his responsibility, he has made considerable effort to fix this for me. I had my doubts about this place, and I don't particularly like going to El Sobrante either, but I desperately needed new glasses. I thought my search for an optometrist would lead me to places in San Francisco, Berkeley or Oakland, where the sophisticated staff steers me away from eyeglasses that would look better on a test crash dummy's mama. Anyway to El Sobrante Optometry I went; I couldn't ignore the reviews. Wow! I have to say that that was my all time favorite visit to a doctor's office. Dr. Hsieh's kindness, patience, thoroughness, and "smooth" attention to detail impressed me. I know more about my eyes now, and how to better care for them. The doctor's friendly staff listened to what I needed (durability, modern edge, eclectic, no designer labels, age appropriate). Dr. Hsueh was in a great hurry. My eyes hurt badly (my first) because of the medicine he used to dilate my eyes. After the eye exam he did not tell me if my eye sight was worse or not and if I needed new glasses. Then 2 styles of frames was "recommended" to me by his staff without giving me a chance to browse the beautiful collection of frames displayed in the showroom. Before I left the store I had to ask for a sun shade for my dilated eyes because of the the bright afternoon sun. read more

I found "Eye Love Optometry" from my insurance carrier and I live nearby. I was nervous to try a new eye doc because I just did not have any luck in the past and didn't want to go through another experience where the Doc has problems with my prescription. I wear contacts and my prescription is challenging given I can't see well either far or near. Dr. Hsieh encouraged me to transition from my rigid gas permeable contacts to soft lenses because they are healthier for the eyes. And he told me this transition process would take a while as your eyes change prescription as you go through this process and that he would work with me. No Doc ever suggested this to me before so I was a bit nervous. Sure enough - my prescription changed and I was in his office weekly but over time my eyes settled and he provided the utmost care, time, and attention to my needs! Now I need to get glasses to wear with my contact lenses to deal with the nearsighted-ness but he is great to work with and the staff is very helpful. I'm so happy with his service and so happy I finally found an eye doctor who really does the right thing for his patients and spends a lot of time with them to make sure they are happy and he works to find the best solution for a complicated patient like me! And now I'm also so happy to be on soft contact lenses! Yay! read more
