Their focus seems to be on natural health, so the foods usually contain interesting grains, seeds, pulses, and fresh fillings. They make a huge cabinet of delicious ricepaper rolls, filled with all sorts of goodies, like beetroot, carrot, orange, corn, chicken, sprouts (all in one roll), and they only cost $3!!! They also have giant omellete rolls filled with chicken fried rice for $6. So much better value that sushi. But I hope that they don't go out of business for charging so little. FRESH GINGER?…read more no? maybe that's just me? anyhow, new zealand's a fine place to be a ginger-lover (i've already sampled three different varieties of micro-brewed ginger beer and, have since become an addict). tangent aside, this juice bar hits the spot. not only is it directly across from my office, they also have reasonable prices, you don't have to wait in an obnoxious 15 minute line (*cough* tank *cough*) and they use hurom slow juicers which are designed to squeeze every last nutrient out of that fruit, veggie, nourishment of choice. today i opted for a beet, apple, fresh ginger (DUH) concoction which had the perfect amount of zing to get me through tuesday afternoon. a small 3-4 veggie/fruit juice (served in a generous 16oz cup) will set you back $5.90 - which i think is pretty fair given competitor prices and the quality of the juice. plus the service is so darn friendly, you just have to return the smiles. i do wish they provided straws, though. something just feels weird about sipping a freshly squeezed juice coffee-style.

I wasn't the bravest as they have heaps of unusual flavours incorporating kale etc. I however stuck with a classic energiser. As I was waiting for my smoothie I went for a wander around the store. Here they have a wide range of organic, vegan and gluten free alternatives to your usual food you'd find at your standard supermarket. They had everything from dairy products, cooking products, fresh fruit and veges, even cleaning products, hygiene products and much more. They even have a bunch of books and magazines with organic, vegan and gluten free recipes. I would love to come shop here more often, but after looking at the prices this is a very expensive way to live. However if you want to live on the extremely healthy side once and a while, I would recommend coming to the little in store café they have here. The cabinet food looked great, and the smoothies are delicious.

This is because there is basically a drinks oasis in the middle of the court. The best thing is that it's called Ponsonby Friend. PONSONBY FRIEND! YES! That is so fucking perfect. Ponsonby Friend! Man, I love that. They sell a bunch of beer and soft drinks and also do fresh juice. I dunno, it's just a dumb drinks place. But it's called Ponsonby Friend and is basically the embodiment of some high-flying egalitarian dream or something. I dream of a day when all food courts have this kind of communal, all-purpose, drinks thing. The sheer magnificence of Ponsonby Friend.
