They really have it going on this year. My daughter is very happy and safe there and that is what matters to me the most! Great job : )

Due to our 6 year old son's past bullying experience and we explicitly asked that he was placed with kids is own age. On the last day of summer camp, we found out that he was slapped in the face by a 10 year old girl -- the counselors never even told us this happened. The kids were allowed to play a game where they kick one another. During this game, the kids ganged up and repeatedly kicked mine on purpose. I was upset to find out that the counselors were not around to stop this kind of play - Where were they?? What adult in the right mind allows kicking?? This literally sets us back as we're trying to build up his confidence. Thanks Kids to Pro for your "thoughtfulness". Lastly, it's been over 105 degrees for week's on end in Austin. They keep the kids outside a lot regardless if kids are complaining about heat. I suggested to my son tell them he needs to use the bathroom when the heat is too much to bear. During pick up, I've met some of the counselors and they seem nice enough but it's obvious they are college students working a summer job. I have doubts they understand or have much experience working with kids across neurodiversities. Concern that they just blow you off if you ask for any kind of accommodation. Two week was enough for me. So disappointing...

Girlstart has a fantastic educational summer camp for girls interested in pursuing a career in the…read moreSTEM field or, just for fun! My daughter was in an after school girlstart class and just completed her one week online camp session. They had a zoom meeting in the morning followed by a daily project and another zoom meeting in the afternoon to talk about results. The girls engineered a rover to explore Mars, went over genetics, created a double helix dinosaur dna model and, built a light up logo. They also studied sutures for surgical procedures which they practiced on stuffed animal patients. The final project was to program an ozobot with color coded paths they designed on their own. On the last day of camp the girls discussed goals they had for themselves and their futures in the STEM field. Girlstart empowers girls to be successful, brave, and resilient. We will definitely re enroll for after school classes and summer camp!

We absolutely adore Girlstart!…read more Girlstart is an organization dedicated to teaching girls about STEM, and breaking the barriers young women often face when trying to enter those fields. It's a top-notch organization as far as I'm concerned. We have been to the past two Starry Nights events and my daughter can't stop taking about them. "When are we going back?" times 10000. They have so many programs, events, camps, etc that drive their mission. I'm looking forward to getting my girl more involved here!

Great FREE option in Austin for kids!…read more One of the best parts is you can see an axolotl (two, actually) in their visitor center building. Then you can head over to the birds of prey, the reptile/fish building, and the animal enclosures. There's also a little lake and a large sand pit (dino dig). There's a cool room in the visitor center that has all sorts of nature items (bones, dead bugs, shells, rocks, etc.). You can bring in your own stuff to trade! Is it a huge amount of things to do/see? No but for a free attraction, it's pretty great. Parking is across the street -- lot is shared with Zilker Park and all the nearby attractions so it can get busy.

But when you do go, please make sure to scan the QR code to track and log your visit. It helps with their funding and takes less than 2 minutes. My kids spent close to 30 mins in the Dino dig area alone. There are so many different sand pits for them to dig and use brushes in. The birds of prey area is awesome! And while the indoor reptile area is small, my kids always have fun finding where everything is hiding nonetheless. The indoor welcome center has so much for them to learn and touch, and they love bringing things to turn in to the front desk to collect points and coins to use in the "shop". I highly recommend! Great for a homeschool field trip too :)
