This is truly one of the most beautiful places on God's Green Earth! It truly is…read more.. A few years ago, I decided, or be it, came to a reality that being in my 40's now, I may or may not get to see everything that I want to see in this life. I may never get to Paris. Sure, I'd love to go, and still hope to maybe go one day, but with the severe and ever-increasing expense of it all, the ever-increasing scrutiny and accompanying discomforts with security (the TSA) tag-teaming with the utter lack of customer service and the barest of essentials being offered from the airline industry these days (If that!!! What?...No peanuts?...Not even a beverage on this flight? Not to mention, the way they just cram you in to every seat now...ugh!) Who wants to fork out essentially a Grand (At least!!! And that's just for starters!!!), to go through all the hassle of overseas travel anymore? Not this guy! So, it was during this epiphany, that I decided that I would seek out the beauty around me. Really appreciate it for what it is. Take pleasure in the smaller things, as it were. And during a trip to Clarence and then onward to Natchitoches, I happened upon this place: The Grand Ecore Visitor Center. It is located at Grand Ecore, about four miles north of Natchitoches. It offers an absolutely breath-taking panoramic view from a bluff in the back of the Center, about 80 feet above the Red River. I once sat in a room with Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks" at the Art Institute of Chicago (my favorite painting in the world) for hours. I get the same cathartic feeling capturing this view from the Visitor Center, and I too, could sit here for hours. This would be a wonderful place to host a wedding reception or some festive event, though I don't think they offer such services. The interior of the Center houses exhibits about the history of the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway, Native American history of the area well as bits about geology and paleontology of the region. Admission is free. The Center is open 10am to 6pm daily, November 1st to March 31st. 8am to 6pm daily, April 1st to October 31st. Closed New Year's, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It ain't Paris, but for me, it's paradise in these parts, and I LOVE it!!

We ran away from all of our family and friends on my 50th bday, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, only to end up spending the weekend with amazing hosts (better than family) in a place I would say felt like home, except it was much cleaner than my actual home. They cooked amazing breakfasts for us including a Thanksgiving dinner Thursday night. Gave us great recommendations of the area for us to check out and riverfront & shops that were in walking distance. The hosts even sat up chairs on Saturday night for us to watch the fireworks. afterward, the entire house enjoyed adult conversation & drinks together on the way back to the B&B. Life is so busy and I can't wait to chisel out some time so we can take it easy once again at the GoodHouse. It is good. So very good. Always coffee, I never sleep well away from home, and the beds were so comfy I slept better than a baby. Walking distance to everything. Breakfast could come back around fast enough. We wanted for nothing. If we had a need they took care of it immediately. Cheryl & Ken were the best.

We especially enjoyed the separate entrance for the Ducournau Suite and the huge jacuzzi tub. The B&B is mere blocks from Front Street and the Cane River Lake waterfront, so we spent much of our visit walking around that area. I definitely recommend a ride on the Cane River Queen to see the Christmas lights if you're visiting during the Christmas season! Nachitoches is a charming town and I know we'll be back someday...
