We have had a kid in every classroom at some point, from infant through school age, and had wonderful and caring staff in every room. LPA does a great job with transitions - when my kids have been in clingy phases, at drop off someone will hold the kiddo while mom and dad leave until kiddo is ready to get down and play. Or when my kids have transitioned to the next room up as they grew older, if kiddo wanted to be dropped off in the old room, that wasn't a problem - kiddo was happy to see their previous room teacher, and then the teacher would transition them to the new room after mom/dad left. If you are a nursing mom, the infant room was great about following feeding cues and not over feeding baby or wasting breast milk. The preK program is wonderful - my oldest loved it and learned a ton, but it is still very play based. My youngest particularly loved Evelyn, and the feeling is clearly mutual. Evelyn is amazing with the kiddos and my daughter loves being in her class. If you need summer or off school care, the options are great. My oldest goes over school breaks and in the summer, and they plan field trips and activities at the center for the school age kids. He has fun, and I love knowing that he's being active, having fun, and not forgetting everything he learned during the school year.

The director Jill and her staff of teachers and caregivers are excellent. The environment is peaceful, caring, safe and inspiring. The curriculum is well planned, age appropriate and organized. The lunch and snack menu is great too. Our preschooler's development has always been clearly communicated so we can work on what she is learning at home. There are no tears at drop off here like in the past because our daughter feels so safe and knows she will have fun here. So thankful for LaPetite and their caring, professional staff!

In those two weeks, my four year repeatedly told me her teachers were mean and she did not want to go to school. We had to drag her through the door crying. We witnessed other children also begging not to go into the classroom. The teachers did not greet us when we walked in at all, until I complained that no one was even saying hi to my child. They say they use conscious discipline but my child was put in timeout and threatened, and the director seemed clueless about the principles of Conscious discipline. When I picked my child up on April 2nd, she immediately told me that the part time teacher in the room had grabbed her "really hard and it really hurt". She put both hands on her hips when I asked her how she was grabbed. When I asked why, she self reported that she had gotten off her letter and was not listening and the teacher was upset. However, that night at bedtime I saw the bruises on both hips in the shape of fingers and thumbs. It took a few days for all the bruises to appear fully. I kept her home from school and demanded they check their cameras. They tried to say that they couldn't find any incidents. Eventually they were able to find the incident based on all the accurate details my 4 YEAR OLD was able to tell us. I watched it and it was concerning to say the least. The teacher chased after her, grabbed her on both hips and then held her under one arm squeezing her, brought her to the other side of the classroom and put her down in a chair and pointed in her face. You can tell how angry the teacher is on the video, you obviously cannot tell how hard she grabbed her. My child scratched her at this point trying to protect herself and was sent to the office. The school agreed that the teacher should not have picked her up like she did and she is "young and inexperienced". They had just hired her. But then instead of firing her they promoted her to full time teacher in that room. They kept insisting that the bruises did not come from the teacher and they think it's a coincidence. They sent me many screenshots of Google searches on how long it takes bruises to form. It had been 10 hours from the time she was assaulted to the time I noticed the bruises, plenty of time for a young fair skinned child to bruise. People can bruise immediately . They made several comments about how they don't think the bruises happened at their school and stories of other parents who had reported them and ENDED up losing their children. This felt like a threat, like they would do anything to protect themselves. Their decision to promote the teacher was very concerning and I ended up pulling her from their care. They also kept all of my money. I paid 1800$ on the first for the whole month and the two weeks prior and was told sorry you have to give a month's notice and was not refunded at all. My child is traumatized from this school and has ptsd symptoms. She can't even be in a daycare setting anymore because of this school, she just cries for her parents and feels unsafe. It is truly heartbreaking the damage these teachers caused. They should all be ashamed of themselves. I hope no other children here have had this happen but I would be shocked if it hasn't happened before or since. Don't take your children here.

We encountered issues and when we addressed them with the director, we were given excuse after excuse and things continued to deteriorate. Then, a new child in our child's class started biting other children including our daughter, and sometimes it happened every day. The director's way of handling the situation was to 'continue to train the staff and monitor the child more closely.' Needless to say, the behavior continued and then they started removing the child who was being bitten (not the child who was actually biting other children) and taking them to a younger classroom so they had to miss out on the activities happening in their class. We finally had to remove our daughter from this center when it became clear that nothing was going to be done to protect the children being victimized by another child who had displayed a clear pattern of behavior that needed to be handled in a more deliberate fashion but went largely ignored. Another child who was being victimized was also removed from the center about the same time as our daughter by her parents because they were met with the same response from the director. Our daughter was also constantly sick, which may be a given when a bunch of children are together all day. However, it resulted in her having to have surgery and she was STILL sick all the time afterwards. Now that she is no longer attending this center, she no longer struggles with being sick constantly. And, of course, when we addressed this concern with the director, we were met with excuses. The main root of the problem at this center is that the director is incapable, or simply unwilling, of actually solving problems, and instead resorts to blaming the staff and making excuses to placate the parents. The teaching staff did everything they could to help us with this situation but their hands were tied since the director wouldn't do anything about it. The turnover rate at this center is ridiculously high, and is reportedly due to the director making it a hostile workplace that teachers don't want to work in. There are also reports of infestations of mice and cockroaches in the buildings.

Under new ownership, she walks in from day one and promised staff that nothing was going to change. Lies! Few months go by and things started changing slowly. They changed the curriculum to Highscope. Which is junk, especially for the area it is located in. They lack communication, and will give parents and staff a one day notice of changes. Oh, and they also fire you over email with no real explanation as to why except "Adjustments are being made to align with programming needs." What they really mean is, "You make too much for our budget and we want to get staff in that we can pay less." If you like making chump change, being walked all over, under appreciated, being lied to your face regularly and getting fired through email. Putting up with kids hitting, biting, cussing you out and overly worked using Highscope, then I say this is a perfect place for you. It's truly sad what it has become. I honestly enjoyed working with the staff. They don't realize firing people who have been there before new ownership, have built relationships with staff, children and their families, will not look good for them. Wyndotte is a different kind of place. And they will not take to kindly of these changes and firing people who they've learned to trust with their little ones.
