Before going to Eddies I stop by Nelson tailor shop and ask them how much it would cost to have the sleeves on my suit jacket shorten and tighten. Nelson's told me it would be $90, I walked out of there in a heart beat and boy was i glad did! I called up Eddies and he told me $50 on the phone which i was fine with compared to $90. I drop off my jacket and it was told it will be ready within 2 hrs. When i went back to pick up my jacket i gave them three $20 bills and he picked the $20 bill in the middle, confused, i asked why just a single bill? wasn't the total $50?? Not only do they really care how you look in the suit, they even provide same-day service which can be virtually unheard of. Not to mention their prices are unbeatable. As a very petite girl, having a good tailor is the most important thing. This is really a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but DEFINITELY the best tailor in nyc. I brought in a winter coat and had the sides and sleeves taken in and he only charged me $35!!! At other places, they would have charged me at least $75. He does a GREAT job, and my coat came out perfectly. They are also very friendly and not only that, very quick! He finished my coat in just one day... I would never go anywhere else. read more

I've never had anything complicated done there, but for hemming pants of shortening sleeves for shirts and jackets, they do a great job. I came here last year to have my custom made wedding dress taken out. It was too tight, and I didn't like the way it fit (or the way I felt in it). Due to the design of the dress, the fabric, and the fact that the dress was custom made to my measurements (via an Etsy shop out of state), there wasn't much fabric that would allow for the dress to be let out. Eddie was apprehensive, and said he wasn't sure he would be able to do anything. Somehow, he managed! I left the dress with him for a week, came back, and it fit! Perfectly! It looked so much better than before. This tailor was recommended to me by a co-worker, who takes a lot of her suit pants and jackets here. I've recommended a few people, as well, and I'm planning on bringing a bridesmaids dress to Eddie in the near future. (Oh, and just to let you know, it cost less to have my wedding dress let out than it did to have the arm holes taken in on a cheap dress at a tailor in Cobble Hill.) read more

THEY'RE A DISASTER: This shop lost my silk blouse (they claim it never existed, although it appears on the ticket they wrote out); lost and then found a skirt, which was incomplete and buried in piles of random incomplete projects; and I later discovered that I'd paid for work on a dress that hadn't been tailored. I dropped off seven pieces a month ago, and called to confirm that the work was complete before heading over. Got a yes. Went to the shop, where they had five items in the bag -- but they were missing a silk shirt and a leather skirt. The tailor SORT OF remembered that there may have been a skirt. He searched through piles and piles of clothing (for ten minutes) and finally turned it up (unfinished). The shirt that is on the ticket, though, he says, does not exist. I described it to him: magenta silk blouse. Sleeves. He remembers it MAYBE if it was a cream blouse, which he'd already given back to me (but forgot to mark on that on the ticket -- his fault, he says). He said there were "a lot of pieces." Correct, there HAD been a lot of pieces, and now there was one less piece, because it had been lost. I paid for the work that had been done, took the rest home, then discovered that the shop didn't actually tailor the dress. The whole experience was a nightmare, and I'm particularly upset about the lost shirt. Do yourself a favor and avoid. I see all the positive reviews, and can only assume they refer to work that's been completed and clothing that's been returned. There is no guarantee that either of those things will happen, but I CAN guarantee that if it does, there is absolutely no recourse. The clothes never existed. Case closed. read more

Wonderful service! I had a dress last minute altered in Florida before a trip here for a show. I tried it on and it was ruined. Everything was crooked, there were large bunches sticking out of the fitted bodice and the hem was sewn unevenly to the liner making weird puckers. And when they took out the side stitches from the previous alteration they found a needle! I took it here the day before the show along with my back up dress that needed hemmed and they had them both ready in less than 24 hours! He was really nice too! I did kinda get hung up on when I first called but it seemed more of a language thing than rudeness. read more

I described hen when he could not find them- he looked confused and kept repeating "white dress?" After 15min of him looking for it I found a picture online of one. I said "white and gold". He said he found it and he showed me a blue dress. I showed him photo again. He finally found the dresses under a huge pile of dirty clothes and said they werent done yet. The zipper in my long down coat broke at the end of last season, so I thought I'd get an early start and have it repaired before there's any chance of cold weather settling in. Several businesses are listed on Yelp as repairing zippers, but when I phoned and asked, most wouldn't touch a down coat. Of those that did, I was quoted price estimates from $30-125. I feared "cheap is cheap" but brought the coat to ExpertTailoring as they were the lowest price. The man behind the counter was friendly, courteous and efficient. He promised my coat in 3 days and, sure enough, when I picked up the coat a sturdy new zipper was in place. The seams are straight and the zipper looks original to the coat. Overall poorly run and poor quality. I dropped off my clothes, and they said they would have everything done by Friday. When I came in to pick up my items, they couldn't find my clothes. When they finally did find my clothes, none of the work was done. My items got lost in the huge piles of clothes that are everywhere in the store. Eddie + Expert Tailoring saved my life. I was the Maid of Honor in my sister's wedding this past Saturday and had the worst time getting the right dress. We had to wear J Crew bridesmaid dresses, which I thought would be OK, but I ended up having to get three dresses because of fit issues, including one off eBay because the one I needed was backordered until August 2015 (and the wedding was in June...and I ordered in May). J Crew sucks. Anyway, I got my final dress the Monday before the wedding and realized I needed a tailor's help because the bust still was too small. I went to Eddie on a Tuesday morning with the dress I wanted fixed (+4 inches to the bust) and one of the dresses that I had ordered before that didn't fit me so he had extra material to complete the job. I needed it by Friday afternoon, and he agreed to that for $50!! (some places charge 4x for an alteration like that). I stopped by on Thursday night just to make sure it was going ok and see if he needed me to try anything on. Much to my happiness, the dress was finished early! I tried on right there, realized he had taken it out too much and he made a small alteration while I waited. I got the dress that evening, earlier than I needed it and for a great price! Seriously he saved my life. From now on, I will bring everything I ever need to be fixed to him - and encourage others to do the same. Everyone in there is really nice and the handiwork was awesome, even on my drape-y/stylized bridesmaid dress. I couldn't recommend this place more! read more

Overall I'm glad I got my bridesmaids dress altered here because it was very reasonably priced, done in only a week, and service was very friendly. That being said, the hem was not clean - there were loose threads everywhere, and they forgot to take off a flower that was sewn on the dress. They took off the flower before I left the shop with no issues, which I appreciated. With the loose threads though I'm not sure I'd get anything tailored here that I'd need to wear more than once. There's also a good chance that with a different material they could have more easily gotten a cleaner hem. read more

Eddie's was a lifesaver. I had a last minute suit alteration for a wedding. I had the suit shipped next-day from the UK, but it was comically large. This was Monday and I had to leave the city by Wednesday. Eddie's Expert Tailoring quoted me $77 on a three-piece alteration with a 1.5 day turnaround.
