My mom hired Expert Home Builders to do some remodel work on her home in San Diego which they provided a contract with a timeline for completion and other clauses listed that were not met. The mere fact that the company is called expert Home Builders - is a lie. They are NOT experts. Their work is horrible and they overcharge for the work they say they will do - and they do not do what they promise. They hire 3rd party contractors to do the work and they do not monitor what is being done. This is a clear case of elder abuse by way of scam. My mother is a senior citizen. She hired EHB in good faith, hoping they would remodel parts of her home. They started working on the home and then they went missing in action - leaving the home completely unfinished - FOR MONTHS! She continually called and emailed for months. Finally she sent a letter threatening to take legal action against EHB, that's when we finally got a response. We were told that the project manager had abandoned the project so EHB would need to assemble a new crew to finish the home remodel work. Imagine our disdain hearing about this! In an effort to get the house done, we continued on with getting it completed - which took many more months longer than promised. Once the work was 'complete' we had to call them back to fix issues that they done very poorly and not professional at all. The toilet was installed in the bathroom, but it was placed so that the bathroom door would not close. They also installed a new shower and put the seat the wrong height, and also did not include a crucial piece to the glass shower doors that prevent them from falling or injuring someone. These are just a few minor issues. For me the bombshell was after the project was 'complete', we had some flooring installed so the contractors had to move the refrigerator to put down the flooring. When they moved the refrigerator the entire floor was wet with water leaking and the water had soaked the walls which had begin crumbling. The issue is that we had paid EHB to fix this and we also paid for the new materials as well. No repair was ever done! This would have caused a much more severe issue if we had not caught it. We ended up having to hire someone new to do those repairs and buy the parts again. This makes me believe that there are many other repairs that were not actually done. You can also see the paint job that they did is completely not acceptable. I believe that Expert Home Builders took advantage of my mother in her old age and overcharged her and took her money and they did not do what they contractually promised. I set up a visit from this company Expert Home Builders, Inc. on home advisor/angi. They accept the build, and I never heard back from them. I call a day before the visit and they acted as if they knew nothing about it. They lady said, I don't see you scheduled and we don't service Big Bear, Ca. I told that I have an email stating you accepted the job and an ID number. Still acted as if they knew nothing about it. By the way did I state that I had to drive 2 hours up to Big Bear from LA for this appointment they knew nothing about. Do yourself a favor don't use them. This review is not based upon the work nor single contractors that were hired by this company, but for the salesperson who represents the company, issues the contracts, and collects the payments on their behalf. This company was hired through a catalog passed out in the neighborhood that promised 20% off of estimates given. My parents hired them for fixing and replacing tiles on the roof. When I looked through the papers, there was a "written summary" of the work but no actual estimated "costs." There was a paper that detailed "liability insurance" but no cost itemization nor name of the roofing company hired or materials projected to be used. The only price listed was a price with a 20% markdown. I was curious as to whether the price given also included costs for the insurance of the labor since it was not clear. When the salesperson, Asher, came to collect the payment on Wed., he asked if I had an email to send the pictures to. I live down the street and my senior citizen parents did not have an email. When I gave it to him, I also requested for him to send to me the final itemization breakdown of the costs. He said, "Oh we are general contractors. You needed to request that from us." I said that I was and asked to have it sent to me. He proceeded to explain that general contractors don't really do that. I said, "I have received itemized estimates before for contract work on my house down the street." He began to be condescending and said that is not how general contractors work. I asked him to send me the information and he said that he would tell, "the office." 36 hours passed. Nothing. However, he send pictures of the roofing work done and 4 of the 15 pictures did not show. I replied back in an email, asking to resend the pictures, an itemized description of the completed work, the name of the roofers contracted (their name was on the door of the company car, I wished that I had written that information down), and a corporate email. Friday passed. Nothing. So at the end of the business day, I resent the email back to Asher from my work email. Monday: Contractors were at the house again to complete another job signed off by contract the previous week by Asher. I asked the workers who were cleaning the interior of the attic if I could speak to their boss. They telephoned their boss (both were professional), and he sent Asher to the house. I asked him why he hadn't sent the estimate and returned the inquiries I had requested in the email from last week. He checked the email (Already 10:15 am, well into the business day) and read it. He said, "Well this was sent Friday and I don't work on the weekend. I was in Big Bear." I told him that I don't work on the weekends either and said that I replied originally with my gmail account on Thursday and had asked him for the estimate on Wednesday in person. He then said, "Look, I only deal with the homeowner of the house." I said that he took the time to send the photos to my personal email and that my name also was on the deed to the house. I said that his company was already starting new work and that I was now requesting an official estimate with itemization. He said it is written down in the contract. I said, no, that is only a description. How did you come up with that estimate? He said, "I will try to get one." That didn't make sense. He said that he would last Wednesday and backpedaled today. I said,"Why aren't you providing one?" His response: "That is not how we do business. Other contractors might do that but we don't do that." I asked for the name of the roofing company that they hired. He said, "We do not provide that information." My hope is that the rest of the work that my family unfortunately signed off on comes out as wonderful as the reviews that I am reading. But I did not have a good experience into how I was treated when I questioned the paperwork and am suspect as to why a request for an itemization of the estimate (especially after the completion of the job) is such a hassle to this company. The salesperson backpedaled several times on the provision of the information and was not truthful when he said that he would initially call the office for the original estimate to be sent the week before. Please consider consulting with contractors that work with your homeowners insurance so that if you have any questions, you can have better communication with the estimates that are being given to have contractual work completed at your home. If you have senior citizen parents who are looking into work, please look into it with them to ensure that you are comfortable with the estimate being given to them. I regret having to work and not being able to review the paperwork before they signed on with this salesperson and company. This company is simply a middle man acting on behalf of multiple contractors to be hired out and it is difficult for the clients to speak with the actual managers and single contractors because of the bureaucracy set up. read more

I met with Ryan and Isaac on 05/26/21 to get a bid for removing some columns in my home. The initial contract was for $47461 to paint, install a fence and remove load bearing columns (that turned out not to be structural). They left out fixing water damage even though it was one of the primary motivations for hiring them. I was with my son when we met and at one point he hit his head and started screaming and that was the time they asked to sign the papers. Pretty clever, but deceptive to say the least. They said they would re-use some materials from another project, which ended up being the first of many lies. . I felt stuck but was expecting great quality work and a quick turnaround, so I let it go. Ryan said they would add the work that was left out to the contract but that never happened. The contract also said they would "level and excavate the ground for a fence" but that didn't happen either. All in all, very deceptive and way lower quality workmanship than what I paid for. Probably the worst part is that they didn't pay the subcontractors, even after I had paid them, so I was threatened with a lien on my house by one subcontractor and had another come to my house to pick up supplies he had left with a bad attitude asking me if I had a problem with them since they didn't get paid either. It makes me very uncomfortable knowing that all of these disgruntled workers know where I live, as well as Ryan who had threatened me previously. It took them more than 6 weeks to finish painting about 1000 sq ft and did not even complete the job. They left patches without texture, trim without paint, nails in the wall, nails and debris everywhere and did not take away all the trash from the project even though they charged $5000 to remove it. Yeah, like more than ten times what it would have costed to remove the trash associated with the project. Since they did structural work, I didn't feel comfortable paying them any more money until they gave me the engineering report, which they withheld until I paid them in full. I mistakingly paid them before they had completed the last details and now they're claiming they are done and are not going to do them. Having paid more than $15000 each for interior work and a fence, I expected every last detail to be perfect, which is what they had promised. They left things unpainted, shelves missing and both nails and holes in the wall. They also installed a fence that won't shut properly, my dogs and baby can crawl under, and had wood pieces fall off less than a month later. read more

I received a call from Expert Home Builders, I applied to Home Advisor, The called and asked about the job, it was to install 1300sq ft of drywall. I had a 9;30am appointment, could not make it, moved to 10:30 to 11:00, called and said the estimater was backed up and said to call in to get a new time, frustrated at this point, I asked when can you be here for sure as I am being jerked around, the gal was a little pissy with me and said 1:30 pm for sure. Two young guys showed up, I showed them the shop and almost instantly one said about 33K to drywall/tape to paint ready the shop. The he did this I think I can save you $$ here, there is a city deal now, etc. came down to 26K, thats the cost to build the shop, foundation, building, roof, siding, etc. I said no thanks, I'll do it myself. he said you should, they were F-ing with me, but I was nice and said good buy. Kitchen remodels are hard. The most important room in my aunt's house was off-line. Her bathroom has to become a default sink-in kitchen! She was frustrated with living in a constant construction zone. It takes a lot of patience to live in a house while the kitchen is being remodeled. I called around to help her find someone after her last contractor disappeared. Everything went basically according to plan with Expert. There were some delays because of supply chain issues and changes that we wanted made that were not part of the original plan. But all in all we got through it fine. Benjamin was responsive to our needs and if any problems came up he took care of it. He is exceptionally patient and very kind. My aunt plans to do some more work on her house in the near future and hopes to hire Benjamin again. Working with Expert Home Builders has been a HORRIBLE experience so far. They gave us the best quote out of everyone, so my HOA went with them. They took forever to send us a contract and a good while after that as well to send a schedule of payments. Our initial project manager, Adrian, needed to leave in October for family and friend issues happening in Israel, which was completely understandable. But then he had this other person, Joshua, replace him, who was awful! He was really bad with communication and he lied constantly. The project has been to completely replace the wood siding on our condo unit, which had been leaking every time it rained into our kitchen and garage. So we had dry wall removed inside the house because of the leaks. When the contractors first came to start working on the siding (the day before Thanksgiving), they worked 4 hours, only tore off 1/3 of the siding and then left. They came back on Saturday after Thanksgiving, tore off another 1/3 of the siding and then left after 4 hours, leaving gaping holes in our walls where the dry wall was removed. They covered up the holes with paper, and then said they'd be back the following Saturday! One whole week later!! They fully expected us to live in a house with pets, which gigantic holes left in the wall for a solid week! My mom had to go to Home Depot herself and buy plywood to try to patch it up and keep it safe. I immediately texted Joshua to tell him that the contractors left giant holes in our wall, and he replied with "Adrian is back. You'll have to talk to him about it. I moved to San Francisco." I was furious!! His boss Eric was also shocked to find out this guy told us he randomly up and left to San Francisco. I called Adrian, who seemed very understanding why I was fuming. But he did absolutely NOTHING to help. He had one contractor come out to look at the house. The contractor took pictures and left. He did not patch up the holes or tell us when they were going to be back to work on the house. Then! Adrian comes back and says that he can't put the new siding on until we give him an additional $2000, because the price of wood had gone up. However, wood had only gone up 2%, not a whole $2000! Our HOA manager said that it sounded like extortion, and he told Adrian that it would be a serious breach of contract if he chose to pursue getting an additional $2000 out of us. Now Adrian is threatening to drop the project completely if we don't get him the next schedule of payments by the end of the day. Our HOA manager has been graciously trying to fight for us while getting everything settled from the previous HOA management company (who left us in this mess with leaking siding for 8months). It's a big company and a simple project. The price is expensive so I assumed people are just not happy with the price. But we are the kind willing to pay extra for good service. Man was I wrong. The result is that bad. BAD. We paid good money for waterproofing the balcony, but the surface started cracking after one week. Also the floor is not leveled so the water is pooling in the middle. Please see the attached images. Of course, they stopped working with us once the money is paid in full. As of now, I am filing complaint against CSLB and starting legal actions.
