Challenging Experience with an AuPair Service Provider
I have been utilizing the services of Expert AuPair for approximately a year and a half, having had two AuPairs during this time. Our first AuPair successfully completed her two-year visa with us. As I work full-time and my wife, who is an Expert AuPair contractor, stays home with our children and the AuPair throughout the week, it has been a convenient arrangement for our family. Unfortunately, we found ourselves in the midst of a divorce that began around two months ago. While we strive to maintain a civil environment, especially in the presence of the AuPair, it remains an unfortunate and complex situation.
My story begins when the police unexpectedly arrived at our door one day. Initially bewildered, as I couldn't fathom a reason for their presence, I soon discovered that Mark, the Owner of Expert AuPair, had summoned them to check on our AuPair. It turns out that our AuPair had expressed interest in being rematched during her monthly check-in. The company tried reaching out to her, but due to phone bill and email complications, she was unable to respond. Subsequently, they contacted my wife, who also did not answer. Finally, they contacted me, but as I was at work and the number was unfamiliar, I mistook it for a telemarketer and did not answer. Given these circumstances, Mark's decision to call the police for a wellness check can be understood. The police arrived, assessed the situation, and confirmed that everything was in order before leaving.
Due to the strained communication resulting from our divorce, my wife was not speaking to me. Therefore, I decided to contact Expert AuPair directly to establish a line of communication, ensuring that I remain informed about our AuPair's status. After all, I am the one financially responsible for this childcare service, and the AuPair is entrusted with the care of my children. It is my right to be aware of any developments. Previously, my wife handled all the communication and relayed it to me, which was acceptable. However, given the recent circumstances and the police visit, I believed it was time for me to establish a direct line of communication with Expert AuPair.
Therefore, I called Expert AuPair but realized they were closed. Therefore, I left them a message. The following day, Mark returned my call, and right from the start, he displayed an unexpectedly disrespectful and hostile demeanor. This came as a surprise to me, considering the significant amount of money I have invested in Expert AuPair's services over the years, and the fact that this was my first interaction with Mark. I began the conversation by expressing my desire to establish open communication with the company to prevent a situation like the one involving the police from occurring again. However, Mark immediately assumed that I was only calling upon the advice of my divorce lawyer. I clarified that my divorce lawyer had not advised me to contact him. In truth, I had not even discussed this incident with my divorce lawyer, as I did not consider it necessary. Nevertheless, Mark insisted that my lawyer was behind the call, disregarding my explanation. Throughout the conversation, he aggressively continued his tirade, undermining my attempts to reset the tone by acknowledging his justified decision to involve the police. My aim was not to express anger, but simply to stay informed about the AuPair's situation moving forward. Despite my efforts, Mark persisted in his aggressive and hostile behavior. He even delved into personal matters, offering unsolicited advice about my divorce and criticizing the way I had chosen to handle it. It was shocking to receive such condescending remarks from the owner of a company I had spent tens of thousands of dollars on. It is worth noting that this was the first time I had ever spoken to him. Clearly, he had already discussed the details of my divorce with my wife. He made assumptions about my financial decisions and cast judgment without attempting to understand my circumstances or reasons behind my choices. Furthermore, when I requested contact information for the local representative in our area, Mark refused to provide it, adding that he was uncertain if the AuPair would remain with us beyond the weekend.
We concluded the conversation, and upon returning home, I was relieved to speak with the AuPair. To my astonishment, she informed me that she had been instructed by the company to move out on the same day. This revelation was perplexing since I had just spoken to the owner of the company, who had deliberately withheld these details from me. This despite the significant amount of money I had invested in their services. Regardless, the AuPair was compelled to vacate our premises that day.
In summary, I understand the reasons behind calling the police when our AuPair expressed interest in being rematched but subsequently became unresponsive. Ensuring the safety of AuPairs is of utmost importance, and read more
