The Little Green Shop - So goooood

2.5 stars The Little…read moreGreen Shop is one of those cute, healthy brunch places. Their all-vegetarian brunch is served buffet style. Nothing was disgusting, but nothing was particularly good either. My major complaint is the hygiene. The buffet is set up on tables where you have to reach over some dishes to get to others. This means people's clothes and hair were dangling over the communal dishes. And there were some people sneezing, which obviously could infect everyone. If you do want to go, I would highly recommending going at the very start of brunch and making sure you're the first in line. On top of that, there were three dogs that appeared to live in the restaurant. I love dogs, and they were cute, but they sat in the customers' chairs and walked across the tables. This is totally unacceptable for a food service establishment. I won't be back, except maybe to buy some plants.

I even got leftover cake from the afternoon brunch on the cheap, as in like, for free. Tchaikovsky was playing on the radio and the dogs were running around. Oh right, THERE ARE TWO SHIBA INUS (well I think they're shiba inus.) They're adorable. Alas, my living room is not my own, it isn't private and I'm probably not a grown up yet. But I can find comfort in knowing that TLGS is a quick 10 minute bus ride away. And that I can always sit on that couch, open up a book with one hand, hold a cuppa tea with the other and pretend I'm right at home. Which I totally am.

Wandering around the plaza, admiring all these beautiful Gothic buildings, my eyes got fixed into…read morethis beautiful Plant & Fruit stall with a showcase of fascinating array of blooming flowers in all brilliant colors right in the center of the Grand Place. Right next to it is an Art & Paintings Stall..featuring most of the buildings in the Square...... The common Red poppy is the national flower of Belgium and we had passed a whole field of it driving through. It is very attractive as an ornamental plant but also is believed to be a source of both drugs & food, like Poppy Seed for baking. They also have the Perewinkle, Pink with deep purple edges, Lilly of the Valley, Hyacinth, Belgian Mums and the Wild Strawberry. We have almost all of the fruits they have, I think we have more selections here in the US. I don't see them having the Lychees & Dragon Fruit and the Persimmons but their Apricots are sweeter & the color is like deep orange. The Lady Pink apple was also sweet and their champagne Grapes are so delicious. I couldn't help but buy some to munch later in the hotel. Also passed a lot of vineyards along the way. All of the establishment, houses, restaurants, hotels around have a variety of colorful flowering potted plants boxed hanging on all their windows and in their entrances. I take it as a sort of or symbol to welcome people in....probably....at least that was how I interpret it...and the feeling is good...
