I've been coming to see Gustavo at Exodus since 2001. As the other reviewers have noted, there is no other hair stylist that can match his price, quality, care, and professionalism. When I walk in to get my hair done, I know I can expect quality and care. He cuts my hair making sure to completely understand what kind of hair cut I'm looking for. He treats you like he has known you forever. He is very friendly and always keeps a positive attitude. He shares stories about his life making you feel like you are part of his family. I haven't let anyone else touch my hair since 2001. Considering the other places I use to go to, I know I'd be wasting my time and money going to another hair stylist. You owe it to yourself to call and schedule an appointment. Remember, you need to call on the same day you need your appointment. It won't be easy to schedule a day or more in advance unless you have a special circumstance like a wedding. read more

I've been going to Exodus since 2001 and have never had a bad experience. He is consistent and accurate when you sit down. Not only that but having seen other stylists in action, the one thought that goes through my mind is, "He REALLY knows what he's doing." He has the qualifications, experience, and results to back up his name. I recommend calling in advance the day you plan on going in because it can get busy, especially Friday and Saturday. If you're trying to get there very early, call or ask on Facebook the day before to let him know you will be there early. Lastly, he takes his time when you're in the chair. If you let him know what you want, he'll ask you if you like what he's doing before proceeding any further. My brother-in-law came in from out of town for his wedding and his first visit to Gustavo was a success. My sister thought he looked great for their wedding day. For the price and quality, Exodus cannot be beat. read more

Exodus Hair Studio is a must, I have been getting my cuts with Gustavo since before he opened his own establishment in 2002. He takes great pride in his work and I appreciate his professionalism, knowledge about his craft and the attention he gives to each client making sure that each is fully satisfied so much that I look forward to the hour long drive up north from central Jersey, because I know I will receive a quality haircut each time. Not only are all of his services reasonably priced but he has even gone out of his way to accommodate client's schedule by staying later or as in my case after a long workday returning to the studio to set me up with a fresh haircut before a big event. Highly recommend that you call Gustavo ahead to schedule (973) 759-6885 read more

I've been getting my haircut at Exodus for almost three years now and there has not been a disappointing haircut ever since. I can't go to any other barber because Gustavo is the best there is; he is the only person that is allowed to cut my hair now. I won't even think twice about going somewhere else to cut my hair because no other place compares to here. He is also a stylist and if you talk to him he'll work with you to get the perfect look. This man has the hands of an ARTIST! Gustavo has been doing this for years even before he opened his business to the public so you know he's got the experience and the know-how. I've been going to Gustavo for almost 15 years and I have always left there happy with my fresh cut. He's always courteous and keeps the mood light whether you're in the chair or in the waiting area. The shop is clean and offers plenty of product options for the clients. It's safe to say that in all the years I've been regularly trusting my hair to Gustavo, I've tried to stump him and change up the style to keep him on his toes. Suffice it to say he is always up to the task and I continue to try and challenge him each and every time I visit. I'd not only recommend giving him an opportunity to show you what he can do, but also allowing yourself to get to know the artist and have a laugh while he transforms your look and your attitude. read more

If your looking to get a great haircut then look no further because Exodus Hair Studios is your place. Gustavo has been cutting my hair for about 14 years now and I'll never go anywhere else. Every time I leave Exodus, I leave with a smile, looking good and feeling great. As of recent he has even been cutting and coloring my girlfriend's hair and we're both always incredibly happy with his work. Gustavo is a certified instructor for Paul Mitchell so he has the style and product knowledge to make anyone look there best. He's a great guy with an awesome personality and I'd recommend him to anyone. If you're looking for a great haircut and an even better experience, Exodus is the place to go. I first went to Exodus 6 months back with no idea what to do in terms of a haircut, and Gustavo spent over an hour going though different options and eventually gave me something that I totally loved. That said, I went to Tom at this barber shop after he made an appointment for me over the phone. I found him via the review sites. Tom is very personable and easy to talk to. Like I always do at the beginning, I quickly explain how I want my hair cut. I have moved away from clippers up the sides and scissors up top to scissors all the way around because the clipped sides look too "military" when freshly cut. The main thing I asked for is that it 'lay over a little bit' on top. This is because I don't like it too short and spikey on top. He asked if I parted it. I told him I don't since it doesn't lend itself to parting and that I just work it into place with my hands. It turned out a little shorter than I would have liked. Note that it was a balanced haircut. That it was. Considering the area, his price was also appropriate and I tipped him. Just out of curiosity, I had asked a stylist/barber shop in the mostly Dominican area at the top end of Manhattan near the Cloisters the day before how much they wanted and ... yeah, right. So I made the appointment here with Tom. This is the classic rendition of the barber shop with the multi-colored diagonal bars twirling around behind a round glass cylinder outside. Also, the shop is right on the route of several NJ Transit buses that will take you to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan in short order.
